Our baby loves this,

I replaced our old Ocean Wonders Aquarium soother with this Rainforest Waterfall version about a month and a half ago. The Aquarium was still working and our baby liked the lights and music, but I was looking for something that would play for a longer period of time. With the Aquarium, I had to go in her room and press the button a couple of times before she would fall back asleep. Not fun at 3 or 4 in the morning when all I want to do is fall back asleep. I had read that the Waterfall soother plays for up to 18 minutes, so I thought I'd check it out.
The soother has 3 different length settings: lights, music/sounds, and movement for 6 minutes; lights and music/sounds for 12 minutes; music/sounds only for 18 minutes. There are 3 settings for the sounds: rainforest sounds without music; rainforest sounds and lullabies; rainforest sounds and classical music. There are 3 volume settings as well. I have ours set for 12 minutes of sounds and lullabies and I rarely have to go back in her room and press the button a second time. She almost instantly settles down once the music starts. If I happen to put her down for a nap or for bed while she's still awake, she'll quietly watch the lights and fall asleep on her own. And I'll admit that hearing the songs and rainforest noises over the baby monitor is soothing and relaxing as I try to fall back asleep. My only complaint is that the lights seem REALLY bright for something that is supposed to lull a baby to sleep. I ended up covering ours with a light flannel blanket to dull the light a bit. The baby can't see the critters, but since I don't have them set to move, it's not really a big deal. Despite the bright lights, we're happy with this soother.

Love it, needs a few improvements though,

This was a gift for my daughter and she LOVES it. She's mezmerized by the lights and movement and will cry when it turns off (she's still too little to reset herself). The characters are cute, the waterfall is very calming (even my husband and I stare at it), and the music and noises are very nice and relaxing.
I do think it has a few areas of improvement. 1) The straps are really hard to get on. 2)The timer is way too short - I am always having to reset it for my daughter 3)It would be nice if it could be positioned higher. The instructions say 7" between soother and mattress is necessary which means that it has to go on the head of the crib instead of the side until my baby is old enough where I reposition the height of the mattress. So, unless she is positioned sideways she really doesn't get to see it well. I really do like this item and it has been a lifesaver getting our little one to fall asleep in the crib (she's 10 weeks old now and has been using this for a month). I highly recommend it!

Good, but Bright- I miss the old Ocean Aquarium!,
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother (Baby Product)
I got this for my son because he enjoyed the other rainforest items. This was very nice, except the light was so bright that it lit up his entire room at night! Definitely not what I would use to soothe him to sleep.
That being said, he loved watching the animals swing and the waterfall "work" I just wish the lights weren't so bright that I can't use it in the middle of the night. Whenever I turned it on he would squeeze his eyes shut and start to fidget to escape from the light! So, a mixed review from me- great for anything other than soothing him to sleep in the middle of the night!

We bought the Rainforest Peek-A-Boo when we were on vacation because we forgot to bring our usual soother. The Rainforest Peek-A-Boo is great. Our 5 month old is fascinated by it. The soother does its job in terms of helping him to sleep. However, the timer feature could be improved. Our son falls asleep better with the light and sound. Unfortunately the longer, 18 minute, setting is with sound only. Overall the Fisher-Price Rainforest is a very good product that I would recommend.

It leaks,
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother (Baby Product)
We have had 2 of these soothers and both have leaked the "water". It is a sticky gel and I am worried about it being in the crib and the babies ingesting it or getting it on their skin. The toy would be great, but I wouldn't want anyone to buy it since it leaks.

I originally had the ocean wonders aquarium, and needed a second one for my second son. I gave this one a try because I liked the jungle theme. I do like the music options, the volume options, and the motion the monkeys make. My son seems to really like it and we've actually taken it travelling with us for a sense of home for him. Works like a charm. He's 9 months old and is starting to turn it on/off by himself now.
But I'm not in love with it. Here's why: 1. The straps are SO hard to deal with. Every battery change involves lots of deep breaths for mom, especially because I don't realize they're low until bedtime and the boy is screaming. 2. When using the lights - the waterfall LED is WAY WAY WAY too bright. In the middle of the night, if you turn it on in a pitch dark room, you and your child literally have to cover your eyes, look away, or squint. The lights on the fish portion are great, but are overpowered by the waterfall. (the original ocean wonders lights were incredibly peaceful). 3. The button for the child to activate it is too small in my opinion and too high for them to reach. 4. The batteries drain pretty fast if you have it set to have all functions going. We usually just use music and bubbles for that reason, which still works fine to soothe him. 5. Bubbles are kind of lame, only a few here and there. All in all, its fun, but I wouldn't buy it again just because its too too bright for nighttime use.

Still loves it after 6 months!,

I bought this soother for my son when he was 6 months old. He is 13 months old now and still loves it. When I first purchased it, he couldn't turn it on by himself. Now, he can do it on his own. My husband and I can hear him over the baby monitor playing with it both when he goes down at night and wakes in the morning.
I have it set on the "works" for him--lights, music, sound... and I have only replaced the batteries once so far. But to be fair, he only uses it 2 or three times a day when he is in his crib. I do agree with the reviewer who said that it was bright. There have been several times where I have walked into his room half asleep at night only to be blinded by the soother's blue light! Thankfully, it never really seems to bother my son. I have noticed that is a kind of a pain to put the soother on the crib (and to also take it off). That difficulty notwithstanding, I was honestly thrilled that it could be attached at all. I have had problems with other toys not fitting on the thicker wood rails of my son's crib. Overall, I am very happy with this soother, it has exceeded my expectations. Update: My son is still using this cribside toy and he is now over 2 yrs. old! It helps him get back to sleep at night when he wakes and I'm sure saves my husband and I many trips up to his room. Update #2: This toy is now attached to my daughter's crib, a hand-me-down from her big brother who is now almost 4. She is 10 months old and loves the soother as much as my son did. Talk about really getting a lot bang for your buck, what a great purchse this has turned out to be!

Stock up on batteries!,

This is a really cute crib soother. I love the characters, the music, the motion and the blue "waterfall". My daughter does calm down when she hears it go on. That said, I agree with the others that say the time the music plays is too short. The timer really should have several parent-set options(8, 12 or 15 minutes). My biggest complaint is that my daughter is only 6 weeks old and I have already needed to change the batteries twice! What's up with that?

Squeaks!!,
This review is from: Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother (Baby Product)
While my son loves this soother, when you switch it to the movement selection it makes a terrible crickety squealing squeak that continues as long as it's going. It only did it a little at first and I just didn't switch it to that, but now he moves the switches himself and wakes himself up with the noise. Called FP and they said they'd replace it, that it was an earlier one (2007) and the new one shouldn't do it.

We have many of the Rainforest products, and this is the only one I've been unhappy with. After the first battery change, the swinging animals started squeaking every time we turned it on. The waterfall lights are way too bright -- it's fine for naptime/daytime use, but we don't turn it on at night b/c my daughter flinches away from the brightness and it just wakes her up instead of soothing her back to sleep.
