5.0 out of 5 stars Great seat at a great price
This potty ring is great (and cute!). We have a higher priced one at home (this one is for grandma's), but had this been available prior to that purchase I may have picked this one up for home as well. My son likes it, I like that it doesn't move around and the splash guard works well too! It has two moveable feet to adjust to potty size. It does "snap" into place for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price, July 16, 2010

I researched potty seats for a while, almost to the point where it drove me crazy. I don't understand why, when half of the population is boys, I couldn't find a potty seat with a splash guard that actually worked well. They are either too small, fall off, or are uncomfortable.

This seat appeared to have a larger splash guard so this is why I bought it. I also bought a PJ the Penguin talking potty ring, so I can compare that one as well.

Here are the pros:

1. Decent splash guard. My son can still pee over it occasionally, but it is pretty high (probably 2 inches) and higher than any others I saw in the store. The only one that may be higher is the Baby Bjorn. The PJ potty ring has a slightly shorter splash guard, I'm not sure why since they are pretty much the same ring otherwise.

2. For $10 it is the best option out there.

3. One piece, easy to clean.

4. We have round toilets. It may move a little, but nothing to the point where it creates a problem.

Cons:

1. All potty seats and rings tend to do this, but the hole is small. It needs to be more oval. Basically, a boy needs to scoot back in order to pee comfortably, and then scoot up to be able to poop comfortably. This just adds another complication to the process. I don't understand why the holes can't be longer.

2. We have toilet seats about 10 years old and the snaps that hold this seat in place wore the finish off the toilet after only about two weeks of use. I'm not sure if this is just because the toilet seats are cheap or what, but it is just something to be aware of.

3. I've noticed that after my son pees and we clean the seat, and then I sit down to pee, the toilet seat is wet so I end up having a wet ring on my legs when I stand up. The only explanation I can think of is that the plastic part of the hole does not go down far enough, and his pee is catching the bottom of the adult toilet seat. This is annoying and adds yet another step to the process to have to wipe another thing down.

4. There's no way to hang it up. This is a big oversight. There's nothing on the seat that can hang on a hook. All the backing is flat, so it doesn't fit on a hook. I had to tape on a string to the back in order for it to hang on a hook.

With the exception of the slightly smaller splash guard, the PJ the talking potty has the same pros and cons. It does talk when he sits, which my son likes. The talking didn't really help or hinder the process. I don't really think the talking is worth an extra $10. The turtle is enough of a novelty to make potty training fun.

On another note, if you are looking for a stand-alone potty for boys, the Fisher Price frog potty is the absolute best. It has an excellent splash guard, is easy to clean, and the kids love it. You'll pay $20 more for the baby bjorn and you won't get anything more for the money.

We started with the frog potty and then have the turtle ring downstairs and the penguin ring upstairs. Now that he's mostly trained, the frog potty stays in his room. He plays in his room by himself while I shower during the day or sometimes when I'm doing chores around the house. We have a gate on his door, so he uses it for those times when he is in his room by himself and I'm not able to get to him in time to get him to a potty. This system has worked well for us and it is convenient to not have to move the potty ring constantly upstairs and downstairs. You've got to move quick with potty training, so if your budget allows, buy one for each bathroom.

My son likes it, I like that it doesn't move around and the splash guard works well too! It has two moveable feet to adjust to potty size. It does "snap" into place for a tight fit. I like the hard plastic, one piece design as those cushy seats are just a pain to keep sanitary/clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best potty seat for boys!!!, July 3, 2010

This review is from: Fisher-Price Sea Turtle Trainer Ring (Baby Product)
I tried a couple of different types of potty seats but they seemed to be designed for girls, not boys. The "pee-pee" guards on most seats out there are a joke! Some might say just help him "point it down" but he gets aggravated if I interrupt him and interfering has actually caused him to stop in midstream and not be able to start again. This might be a little too much info for some, but for those of you who have a boy I"m sure you understand this predicament perfectly! So long story not so short the size of the splash guard is important and this turtle potty seat is just right. The other reviewers are right in that it does snap onto the seat securely (we have both oblong and round and it works for both) and my son seems comfortable on it, and he's a BIG 2 and 1/2 year old...very tall for his age. It's easy to remove - just give a quick tug on the handles - and its easy to clean. A great seat for a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT, May 26, 2010

I LOVE this potty ring!! It is the perfect fit for our toilet seats, doesn't move around on the seat as it clicks into place, and angles my son (3.5 years old) just right so that the pee guard works perfectly while not hitting him or rubbing up against him like other guards. And it's super cute!! Definitely a winner.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little too secure for us..., September 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sea Turtle Trainer Ring (Baby Product)
I was very disappointed with this product as the reviews have been so great. It is very cute but the hole is SO small. My 3-yo daughter has a chubby fanny but had an older cushioned one that had a bigger hole that worked well for her but it had a rip in it and I question the sanitary factor in that. Plus both rings tend to leave a wet ring around the toilet seat which is just gross. Also the Turtle snaps in so well that it was difficult getting it out. For us that was a bit of a hindrance since I have taught my kids to take the ring off after using it (which was also an issue with urine dripping off onto the floor).
I bought a much more simple model that has rubber going around the whole rim which keeps it in place very well but the kids are able to put it on and take it off very easily. Potty Trainer Seat, Navy Ring

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this potty chair, August 31, 2010

My two year old loves this potty chair. He didn't use it very long because he wanted to sit on the actually toilet like mommy and daddy, but he called it his turtle potty and it's the perfect size. The handles are great too.

5.0 out of 5 stars as it should be, August 12, 2010

This product works as it should. It snaps onto toilet seat and doesn't slide around. It has handles on the sides to let the child hold onto. It has a pee guard that actually works for boys. WOW!!!! And great news...it doesn't cost a lot. This is the third seat that we tried. The first one slid all over the place and the pee guard was usless. The second one wouldn't fit ! This one is great!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cute, functional potty ring for potty training, June 30, 2010

This review is from: Fisher-Price Sea Turtle Trainer Ring (Baby Product)
This cute potty ring is very functional and fits securely on toilet seats...even the oblong shaped seats. It snaps in place and doesn't slide around like others do. Great price, quality and very cute for a "little potty trainee." Just wish the training came as easily. LOL

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not fit all toilet seats, February 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sea Turtle Trainer Ring (Baby Product)
The tabs on the bottom of the turtle didn't fit my toilet seat. I removed the two back ones (easily with a screwdriver) and it seems to fit ok not as stable as it would be had both sets of tabs fit but it's not wobbly and should work just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to clean potty seat, December 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sea Turtle Trainer Ring (Baby Product)
This sea turtle training potty seat is easy to clean and the plastic seems very sturdy. My 1 year old son, who received this as a Christmas gift, sat on it right away as soon as he'd removed the wrapping paper!

It fit snugly without adjustment on our standard toilet seat. I love that because other seats we've used in the past did shift around a lot. Anything that helps keep your toddler confident is a big plus.

I don't agree with other reviewers who say the opening is small. The whole point of a training ring is to shrink the size of the toilet's opening. My petite 4 year old fits on the seat without any problem~~~she's still too small to sit comfortably on an adult toilet seat. She's able to get on and off this seat without it shifting off the toilet seat. She's been fully trained since the age of 2, but still asks for my help sometimes~~mostly for the extra attention.

I would recommend this ring. I purchased this because other reviewers commented on the generously sized guard. Though it is a nice size, I don't consider it fool proof. I have to move my son forward so he's a bit close to the guard, if he leans back even slightly I don't think the guard will work properly. We have several Baby Bjorn little potties (the one piece variety) and I would say the guard is similar in size, maybe even a bit shorter, but that could be the angle of the seat itself and not the height of the guard.
