Our son loves this toy. He was 8 months when we bought it and granted it took him acouple attempts to play with it and not be started by the noise when he turned the steering wheel or pushed on the turn signals, which are super cute cause the arrows light up and the toy says " cookie cookie " when the light blinks.
I can put this toy in the crib with him and he will play with it and let me get an extra 15-20 minutes worth of sleep.... GREAT TOY !!

"All Garbage, Alll the Time!!!",

My 16 month old son isn't into this so much, he likes to sit in his carseat and just reach a hand over...and hold down the "radio" buttons, which is Oscar saying "all Garbage, ALL the time" and then some music.
Over. And Over. And Over. I'm not yet at my limit of noisy toys, I'm coping, and I still give him this thing, but whooooaaaa, that gets annoying quick! I eventually start looking for a good hard right turn that will toss it out of his reach!

My son really does like to play with this sometimes, but it is just too loud. It is the loudest toy that he owns, and just about every toy he has makes some sort of noise. I have no problem with noisy toys in general, but the volume on this literally hurts my ears. I am looking for something to cover up the speaker to mute the volume.

WAY cheaper at Toys R Us!,

This same product is $19.98 at Toys R Us -- why so expensive here for the same thing? It's a cute toy that my son will love. He went crazy for it at the store. Anything with a wheel is a hit, though!

This toy is painfully loud, and there's no way to adjust the volume.
If your child will be playing with it outdoors or something silly like that, then it's decent. The sound effects and phrases are amusing, and there's lots of different interactions (push, pull, twist, turn, etc). Indoors, however, it's just too loud, even for adults (children generally have better hearing than adults, so if it's loud to us, it's even louder to them).

My son has this toy.....I think it's hilarious and probably play with it more than he does. It's too funny. As for it being loud....it's no louder than some of the other toys out there. It's extremely durable as we have laminate flooring and my son has tossed/dropped it several times. He'll be two year old next week and he still has fun playing with this toy.

Well, after several months of leaving the batteries out of this toy (since even two layers of tape over the speakers didn't muffle it enough, and I was going out of my mind at the repetitious nature of the recordings), I have just put the batteries back in. Result: my 16-month old is too entranced with his toy to be taking the ornaments off the Christmas tree anymore.
My son received this for his first birthday, and he took a little while to warm to it. It does teach cause and effect, in that children get immediate feedback to all the button-prodding and lever-moving that they do. (This might be very good for kids who, like my son, will not leave the DVD/computer/scanner/whatever buttons alone.) It took a week or two for him to develop the hand-to-eye coordination needed to turn the "Ernie" key from side to side, but once he mastered it, he was doing it routinely. Right now, he's giggling non-stop at the Cookie Monster's yum-yum-yum-yum behind me. . . and, since he just dropped it noisily on the hardwood floor, it's safe to say that it's durable. The toy is entertaining, durable, and a decent distraction for the kid; however, it is LOUD, has no volume control, is repetitious to the point of being grating, and not very educational beyond cause and effect relationships.

My son is also a "melmo" fan and likes this driving toy. We started keeping it in the car and yes it's loud but I'd rather hear it than him crying. He has a hard time turning the wheel though and that's what makes Elmo talk. I see him holding the toy with his legs to turn the wheel. The other sounds are really easy to make and he presses the oscar and cookie monster and bert buttons continuously. We have used it quite a bit since Christmas and the batteries are going strong.
