My 21-month old enjoys playing with this but because of the curves of the mailbox a few of the shapes are more challenging to get in. The cavity is also small so if you get a few pieces in, and don't shake to have them settle, you can't get in the envelopes or other pieces. Frustrating for my daughter, from that aspect.

Awesome toy for learning shapes, colors, and great for any kid who likes Elmo.
We should of bought two as my toddlers fight over it all of the time!

It's held up to my kids and is very engaging for them. My baby likes to play with it and my 2 year old also gets use out of it by pretending it's her real mailbox. Hilarious

5.0 out of 5 stars Still fun after 2 years, December 13, 2011

My daughter got the Elmo Mailbox Sorter for her first b-day two years ago and she still loves it. We had it out when friends visited and their kids, (ages 2 1/2 and 1 1/2) got in a fist fight over it. The only problem I have with it is that you can't lower Elmo's arm holding the flag, but the kids don't care.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy!, November 28, 2011

My daughter got this as a gift for her first birthday. At the time she was too young to know how to put the shapes in by herself but she loved putting the in and taking them out of the door of the mailbox. She is now 15 months old and just started being able to play with this all by herself. This is made very well out of heavy plastic, even the shapes are very sturdy. This can be dropped, banged around, and dropped some more and I don't think it will break. It has been a great toy. One of my daughter's favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy, and I don't even like plastic!, September 10, 2011

My daughter was given this toy by a friend when she was born. I tend to prefer wooden toys, and I usually hate character toys as well, so I wasn't very excited. But it was a perfectly good toy, so it has been sitting around. Well, my 3 year old has recently discovered Blue's Clues and she loves having a mailbox to play with. She's constantly playing with the little "letters" and singing the "Just got a letter" song. My 1 year old loves opening the front door and putting toys in and closing the door. Neither use the shape-sorter part of it, but it is one of the most favored toys in our home.

I do agree with the other poster that you have to shake the toy to get all the shapes to fit, and this has frustrated my 3 year old occasionally, but that's no the main use it receives in our home, so I don't really worry about that.

My son is a Sesame Street boy! So, I grab up anything Sesame, but this is great Sesame or not. This toy is on the small side, but it is perfect for little hands. And, small was what I needed because this was from the Easter Bunny. It was the perfect size for his basket! He was 22 months when he received this and could play with it independently almost immediately. He can open and close the mailbox himself, and, because the colors of the shapes also match up with the colors of the openings, it makes for a great first sorting game. LOVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite for my toddler!, April 20, 2011
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sesame Street Elmo's Mailbox Sorter (Toy)
My son received this toy as a gift for his first birthday and it has been one of his favorite toys for an entire year (he's 23.5 months). At age 1 he was more interested in the envelopes and getting them inside (with my help) and putting the shapes in and taking them out of the mailbox (via the large opening). Through the year, his fine motor skills have progressed and he can insert the shapes himself now. Sometimes he still needs a little help due to the curved nature of the mailbox. But we talk about the colors, shapes, and sesame street characters and this is still a toy he regularly pulls out of his toy box. Would recommend for any toddler.
