Fisher-Price Songs and Smiles Discovery Gym

My baby behaves exactly like the baby in another reviewer's video.
At about 4wks old, when he started being more alert and awake, I put him under this mat and was blown away by the smiles, coo's and wriggling. Two weeks later this has become part of our morning routine. I feed/change him, cuddle and talk, then lay him under the mat and watch him have fun until he is ready for his nap. My plan was to eat breakfast while he is entertained by the toy and go to bed when he goes to sleep but I can't bear to drag myself away when he is looking so adorable! I put him on the mat whenever he is awake and alert as he enjoys it so much.
- It was simple to assemble, except it came with two screws and I could only find one hole.
- The material is easy to wipe clean, I have not yet tested it in the washing machine. (7mths later this has been in the washing machine a few times and is fine)
- There are loops on the mat which you can clip the toys to when he is older so they do not just have to hang above him when he is on his tummy.
- Different textures and things on the mat will amuse him later when he is old enough to explore.
- I would like the mat to be a bit more plush actually but I have a small blanket underneath it to make it softer for him. The mat is on a rug on wooden floorboards, if I had carpet it would probably be fine.
- I love the puppy which plays music and has four flashing lights, although the mirror distorts your reflection. Babies like to look at faces so a clearer reflection might possibly entertain him better.
- The music is quite upbeat and pleasant, I have not found it annoying.
- There are only two volume levels, not a dial to gradually turn it up/down, but the sound levels are fine.
- The flashing lights can be on or off.
- You can switch the music/lights on for 20min or 'baby activated' which I think means pressing the ears to hear the music, I have not experimented with that yet.
- It must come with batteries as I do not remember searching the house for a screwdriver to get the back off.

The only thing I do not like about this is that you cannot have the lights flashing without the music operating (you can have the music without the lights). Sometimes I want to watch TV, or chat on the phone, or maybe I would like him to see the lights but listen to my choice of CD. The lights are fairly unobtrusive but when the music is playing, even softly, everyone in the room is forced to listen to it.

I bought this gym for my lazy 5 month old, although she still won't reach out to play with the toys for too long she still enjoys laying underneath them and staring at them. She loves the colors, and feel of the mat. It has raised/attached fabric, tags, and crinkly stuff.

The toys are big and colorfull. The musical puppy is awesome. My daughter loves its music, lights and mirror. I like that it can be attached to anything and be taken anywhere.

The loops for attaching toys are genrous and perfect for batting or kicking. Great product.

update: DD is now 6 months and she loves grabbing the kitty and the bird. She's almost 7 months old and loves playing in her gym.

I bought this item for about 1/3 of the price listed here. I'm not sure if I would spend that much on it for two reasons: (1) My daughter outgrew it really fast. After about 4 months it no longer kept her amused for this only lasted between 2-4 months for us, and (2) the bars that cross at the top have a very poor execution and always come apart. Mainly the green one, I have no idea why the makers made it that way but owners of this know what I mean it is always loose and falling apart. I was putting this in the closet and taking it out every time and every time I had to reassemble this due to that darn green bar :)

But, the one thing that makes this a 4 star in my opinion was the musical mirror. I always used this separably in my daughters crib. She absolutely loves it. Her whole face lights up when I turn it on and I'm still on my original set of batteries despite using it over 6 months everyday now. I think the mirror really makes this product and that's why I'd give it a 4 star. Without the mirror this would be 2.5 stars.

After an extensive research I decided to buy the Fisher Price gym and I was not disappointed, it seems to be the best thing I could give to my little boy - he LOVED it form the minute he saw it and he was only 6 weeks old.
He loves the lights songs and mirror on the dog and the hanging toys are very stimulating to reach out and grab.
The toys are colorful and cheerful.
Great value for the money.

We got this as a gift for our third child when she was about three months old. She loves it and wants to play in it everyday. She loves to kick the kitten that rattles and now four months old is grabbing the bird. Since it is so soft on their faces and skin she plays on her tummy quite a bit on it. I wish they had these with my first daughter because she hated to play on her tummy. A great investment and worth the money.

I bought this for a baby shower and four months later I'm told it's one of his favorite toys.

I bought this item for my son who was 6 months old at the time. From the time I assembled it and he saw it his eyes lit up. When I placed him on the mat he immediately began stretching to grap whatever toys he could. It was wonderful to see him having fun and also proving money well spent. This gym kept him active and occupied. He loved the musical puppy the most. he was fascinated by the ways the lights flickered on and off. I recommend this product for any parent wishing to introduce something new to their new borns.

I bought this for my 2 month old grandaughter. She loves the hanging toys and loves looking at herself in the mirror.She likes the songs and lights on the dog. Toys can also be moved around on gym and thay can also be attached to a carseat. It's very colorful and easy to store.

This item is great for Tummy Time. It kept my Newborn very entertained and the Puppy can be taken in the car, highchair, or crib. It worked well untill my son could roll over then he just ended up somewhere else on the floor or he would get caught around one of the legs.

There's only one bad review on here and I think maybe they didn't put it together right or something.

My son was not easily occupied by tv or anything at all except for this playmat. He loved it and would coo and have so much fun playing on it. Once he got older, I used the little rings with the toys to attach other places in his room and stroller and such for him to enjoy. The bear mirror that plays music, I ended up attaching to his crib and he would fall asleep to it's music. He's three years old now and STILL loves to play with that musical bear mirror sometimes.

This gave me about 20-30 minutes when he was a young baby where I could put dishes in the dishwasher or put away groceries, make phone calls...etc. It was a lifesaver for me.
