My wife and I were deciding between a Fisher Price two-way swing or this two-way glider as our "tool" to help put our newborn to sleep when she's less than cooperative. My wife and I were deciding between a Fisher Price two-way swing or this two-way glider as our "tool" to help put our newborn to sleep when she's less than cooperative. In the end, we decided on this "glider" because of the ability to pick it up and move it around. Here are my thoughts: (1) at first, I thought it was more like a solid infant car seat with a motor attached beneath. It is not. It's just a hammock draped over a tubular metal frame--quite flimsy. But it gets the job done. (2) The arch from which the toys dangle is NOT a handle that you can use to move it; it's just a non-weight-bearing tube from which the toys dangle. To move it, you grab two handles at the ends of the seat. (3) The motor is much quieter than what I expected after reading some of the reviews here. Maybe in a very quiet room, the motor noise may be noticeable. But the "noise" is never annoying or intrusive, and it doesn't disturb baby. (4) The faster of the two movement speeds is probably about right; any much faster and baby's head would get jolted back and forth. The slow setting is very slow. (5) The seat is rotatable 360 degrees, so the back-and-forth movement is not just limited to 2 positions. (6) The music tends to be on slightly louder side even on the softer setting, but it's not a big deal. (7) As with all such seats, baby's back is slightly arched, and I'm not sure it's healthy for baby to sleep long term day in and day out in this posture. But for calming baby to put her to sleep, it's fine.

The bad: The gliding motion is too slow even on the fast setting (icon of a hare versus a tortoise, or low). To actually rock a baby to sleep the gliding needs to be faster. There is no calming vibration option, a huge omission.

The ugly: I would say the correct price for this glider is $45 or less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone MUST have this...., January 4, 2007

We purchased this glider rather than a traditional bouncer because of its soothing motion and versatility. We have used it every day for the last 3 months and the first set of batteries has just worn out...wow. My son loves it, a must have for any parent. Easy to assemble, easy to use - this is vastly superior to reg, 'bouncy' seats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny., July 6, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter Bunny (Baby Product)
My wife and I went back and forth between this and the portable swing ( fish theme). I am so glad we chose the glider. My son LOVES it. He has hated his crib from day one so the only thing that gets him to sleep through the night is the glider. I wish they made an adult sized one sometimes, it looks comfy and the gliding motion is pretty smooth. The motor might seem a bit loud but I think my son finds it soothing. It runs fairly constantly and we are only on our second set of batteries (first set was cheapies and they still lasted a decent amount of time).

This is one item I would buy again!

5.0 out of 5 stars The sleep solution for infants with reflux!, March 7, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter Bunny (Baby Product)
Much like the other reviewers, our son was only able to sleep in his car seat or swing (due to reflux) and for no more than a two to three hour stretch at night. I saw this glider in an insert in Baby Magazine and hoped it was the answer to our prayers. It was! The first night we tried it out our son (eight weeks old) slept for six and a half hours!

Nearly two months later he is still sleeping in it for eight to nine hours a night! We have a "mini co-sleeper" attached to our bed and the glider fits in it perfectly. If he starts to stir or is startled by something, I just reach over and turn the glider on and he falls back to sleep!

Since we bought this glider, we have gone out of town twice and did not even consider leaving it at home. Yes, it is big and not the easiest thing to travel with but the sleep we get each night is well worth the trouble. He will be four months old tomorrow and I am dreading the day that he outgrows it. Hopefully by then he will have also outgrown his reflux.

The Soothing Motions Glider is wonderful and we credit it for the return of our sanity!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best seat, June 21, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter Bunny (Baby Product)
I bought this seat and it is the best investment I ever made. My daughter loves it and so do we. When she gets up in the middle of the night and she wont go back to sleep I put her in the seat and it rocks her to sleep. Now we can both get a good night sleep. When my daughter has a cold she cant lie on her back so I put her in this seat and she is elevated and she can breathe better and gets sleep. I think that every parent should buy this seat. I know every shower I go to this will be my gift to the new mom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, good product., February 2, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter Bunny (Baby Product)
I bought this glider because my 2 month old son loves to sleep in his swing and I was getting leary about letting him sleep in it while I was not in the room. So, I got this for him to snooze in, and sometimes sleep all night in because it is low to the ground and very roomy. He seems to like to like it quite well and is entertained by the animals above him when he is awake in it. A couple things that I feel are drawbacks are the size of the glider...it's HUGE! Also, it is quite noisy, which I guess I kind of expected. I also do not care that much for the music, it just doesn't seem very soothing. Overall though, if it helps me get a few naps in during the day and night, I am all for it, so this product has helped in that way. My son does like the rocking motion and the toys.

Like everyone parent of a newborn, my living room is full of baby contraptions...swing, bouncy seat, bassinet, glider, but truly the only thing I needed was this glider! My daughter is 12 weeks old and has used this since her 2nd week. She will sleep in this glider for up to 6 hours during the night and naps in it all day long. It cradles her and she feels safe and snug. It's the only thing she can "put herself to sleep" with. We use it everyday and just recently changed the batteries for the first time. Honestly, I do not think the noise level is that bad. If I had to choose between sleepless nights or a bit of noise, I choose the bit of noise! I highly reccommend this to any new parent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Glider, May 17, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter Bunny (Baby Product)
We orginally put our son next to the bed in the pack-n-play bassinet. He did fine, but woke up all the time. We bought this glider when he was 5 weeks old and he started sleeping most of the night. He is now 4 months and is sleeping most nights in his own crib. He is a side sleeper which is not possible in the glider. We did not have any problems transitioning between this and his motionless crib. We had the glider on all night, every night and only changed the batteries one time. It is loud, but babies seem to love the sound. We never used the music or the mobile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soothing for the parents too..., December 28, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter Bunny (Baby Product)
My son is almost five months old, and by far, this is the best $60 we've spent. At first I was hesitant to pay the money for an untried product (nobody we knew had one), but we finally purchased this when he was about two months old, and as soon as we got it, we wished we had bought it earlier. I can honestly say that hands down, he sleeps more soundly and deeply in this seat than in anything else - crib, carseat or swing. Nothing gives my husband and me a better night's sleep either! Our son fell asleep last night at 10:30 and slept straight through until 6:30 this morning. He ate breakfast for about half an hour, and is now back asleep in it for his morning nap.

I've read some of the other reviews, and the biggest complaints seem to be about the noise level and portability. Honestly, after the first day or so, we barely noticed the sound at all. The repetitive sliding noise quickly fades into the background and you forget it's even on. And, yes, it is a bit bulky, but it's not like it's bolted to the floor. We can easily move it around if necessary, and I feel comfortable leaving him in it because the base *is* so sturdy and stable.

We too have only changed the batteries once since we purchased the glider, and you can take the cloth off the frame to wash it pretty easily. All in all, for us it was a great investment, and worth every penny.
