4.0 out of 5 stars Kid friendly but sound could be better
My son just received this projector for his 3rd birthday. He has really enjoyed it. It is very kid friendly, and he can set it up and work it all by himself, which is really nice. The only complaint I have is that the sound part is pretty uninteresting. It only says like one or two words, and I don't think that it is worth the extra money to buy the super sounds slide...

3.0 out of 5 stars Super Sounds Projector
We had high hopes for this product and were left with a "so-so" feeling about it. The actual projection on the wall is very small. We bought the SpongeBob, Cars and Dinosaurs catridges to go with it, and although they do make noise, they dont have any kind of dialogue or tell any kind of story. Just sound effects for each frame which turn out to be pretty boring. It is an...

My son just received this projector for his 3rd birthday. He has really enjoyed it. It is very kid friendly, and he can set it up and work it all by himself, which is really nice. The only complaint I have is that the sound part is pretty uninteresting. It only says like one or two words, and I don't think that it is worth the extra money to buy the super sounds slide reels. Fortunately, the projector will work with any of the viewmaster slides. My son doesn't seem to care, so we will just continue to use the projector with the regular slides.

My son is 4 years old and loves this projector! He carries it around the house to project images on any flat surface he can find. It only comes with one disc, so you will need to purchase others. The audio is very clear, as are the images that are projected. Great gift for any child 3 and over.

My twin 3yr. olds received this as a present several weeks ago. Once we figured out how to adjust the picture (turn the red part), it became their new favorite toy. They want to play with it all the time and even take turns picking the reel and pressing the buttons. We have the TOY STORY - Super Sounds Cartridge with 3 Talking ViewMaster Reels and Super Sounds Safari Reels in addition to the one it came with that make noise. The noises are really not that special, just a funny sound or one line from the movie, but the boys love them. It is a nice change to hear them asking to watch this toy instead of a movie. As for durability, ours has been dropped, thrown, and tripped over and still works fine. I am looking forward to acquiring new reels, though. "To infinity and beyond" has gotten old in my book - but not in theirs!

We purchased this projector for our 3 year old based on other reviews on Amazon. We have been very pleased. It is easy for my little guy to operate and he loves it.The remote is very cool because he can lie in bed and do a little slide show for himself. I like the automatic advance and appreciate the fact that it shuts off after awhile of no usage. The other reviewers were correct in stating that the sound is a little lame but that's no big deal really.

Yes, that's right. Tickled Pink. I wasn't expecting a lot out of this, but I'm thrilled with it. Just thrilled. The sounds are fine. I'm not entirely sure what the other reviewers are expecting out of a tiny plastic projector. The picture is surprisingly good. It should be relatively dark, and I recommend projecting to the ceiling for both distance and an assured flat surface. You can get the image to be a respectable size and sharpness this way. The buttons let you either advance once, go through all the slides once, or repeat the sound (if you're using a sound disk). We've been using this with old fashioned silent view master disks as well, and it's great for communal viewing. If you're like me and you're trying to decide between the current model and this one (year = 2010), go ahead and spend 1/3 - 1/4 the money on this older model. You're not going to get a ton of new features or improvements to a plastic projector anyway!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fisher-Price Super Sounds Projector with Remote Control Review, March 23, 2009

This product is nice because it helps relax my toddler when he's getting ready to go to bed and the remote is very handy. But when I bought another reel with sounds I could not hear the audio for it. All I could hear was the audio that came with the Projector. It was really strange. I tried changing it out a few times but kept getting the same results.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad toy., January 17, 2009

My three year old son got this for Christmas. While it is very nice to be able to project the reels onto the wall or wherever is convenient, the sound part leaves a lot to be desired.

Pros:

Nice to be able to see reels better, where you choose.
Sound adds another dimension.
Remote works well and comes with the (button) batteries.
Easy to use.

Cons:

Sound is only a word or two or a short sound. Nothing else.
Some of the pictures occasionally have the same sound.
Some sound reels have to be pushed in very hard to work.
-(At least on ours they do.)
One of our sound reels doesn't work at all.
-(May be just ours, but seems like it might be tempermental.)
Reels with no sound do make sound when they advance.
-(It didn't really bug me too much but my older kids hate it.)

If you want this as a projector with remote and maybe the occasional sound set, this would be nice. Just don't expect too much from the sound feature!

Note: We first got one without the remote, and it was defective. As it was a gift and I didn't have the receipt, I called the phone number on the box. The woman at Fisher-Price that I talked to was pleasant and polite. She assessed my issue easily, and when she established that it was defective, she took my information and told me she would send a new one, free of charge. Not only did we get it in a timely manner, but it was the model with the remote, which she knew was not the model we started with. I can't say enough about Fisher-Price's customer service. This is the second time I have contacted them (different issues) and was very pleased both times.

I bought this for my kid who absolutely loves this. The reels with the sounds are more fun than the ones without. The remote is of great use. The newer model does not have a remote I believe. The sound and photos/pictures are very good. I project on the ceiling (10 ft). The colors are bright and vivid.

I highly recommend this for parents with kids in the 3-5 year range. It is fun for others too (I like it myself!). But for kids under 5 years it is very educational too. My kid now knows various types of dogs, various farm animals and instruments and the sounds they make..

My trouble with this toy is that the sounds do not correspond to the pictures on the reels. We bought this for our two little grandsons and they opened it Christmas Day. It worked with the sample reel that came with it, but when we put in any three of the "Babies in the Wild" reels, the commentary was just all wrong and very random. A growl for a picture of baby bunnies. Describing a jaguar with a picture of a whale or some seals. A gurgling sound of water with the picture of a baboon. Just wacky. We tried turning the reels every which way and taking them all out of the sound cartridge, etc., but everything we tried made no difference. So, we have two little boys (2 & 3) that are being told that something is an orangutan when it is actually an armadillo! Help...not good! We will buy another set of reels and see if the problem lies with that set, but so far, I'm not all that happy with this purchase.
