Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The new Sounds 'N Lights Monitor includes a sleek contemporary look that is in line with other personal electronics Moms are accustomed to. The lights are now on both sides, allowing greater visibility around the house. This monitor also includes a night-light feature on the transmitter to allow the parent to meander through the nursery. It also features a low battery indicator on the receiver. The monitor will have five traditional LED sounds lights to see baby's call, volume control, AC/DC power featuring an energy saving power cord, plus a power light.

Product Description

For the mom who wants an easy way to stay in touch with baby. There are sound-activated lights on both sides of the receiver so it's easier to see baby's activity from wherever you might be in the house or yard. There's also a built-in nightlight on the transmitter to help you see better when you're peeking into the nursery. And with two channels to minimize interference you'll have a crystal-clear connection - up to 500 feet! Transmitter operates on AC current and has an energy-saving power cord that unlike other monitors will not draw energy when the monitor is turned off. Receiver operates on AC current or requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).

If I turned the volume down enough where the static didn't drive me crazy, I couldn't hear my daughter.
E. Anderson
It hasn't been a BAD receiver considering I only use it every so often for my son, HOWEVER . . . I have only had this monitor for 4 months and it is already broken.
Sarah
When we do manage to get a signal it is still overloaded with static and, if we move the receiver or walk in front of it, prone to interference.

My wife and I purchased this monitor for our first son and we LOVE it! There are reviews that state that it has issues with static, and sometimes it does. HOWEVER, because it has the lights that it does, if you keep those within your sight at a time when there is much static, they will light up when your child is making noise.

We are very impressed with this monitor because of the distance we can go with it. I have taken the monitor with me to take the trash to the dumpster (around 200+ ft away) and I was still able to hear my mother and wife talking in it. We have noticed that using one of the two channels make a difference depending on where it is...and cell phones can cause the static interference.

With all that said, my wife and I were unable to find this same monitor for our second son (we live in a different state and a smaller town) and so we purchased a Sony Baby Call. We cannot stand this monitor. The range is horrible (I am sitting in the same house not more than 75 ft away and it is constantly beeping saying it is out of range. We are definitely returning the Sony and will purchase a Fisher-Price Sounds 'n Lights monitor online.

I highly recommend this monitor. If you keep the volume down (not all the way off), the static isn't bad and you will hear your child fine (not to mention the lights lighting up). It is worth it for the money!

We purchased the first set when our son was born in 2009 and have never had a problem with static, etc., and we lived in a condo community. We purchased a second set now that our second son was born and have one receiver on channel A and the other on channel B. It works great.

I have only used this monitor for five days, and will contact Fisher-Price soon to learn if my unit is defective. While the monitor functions, the receiver unit plays an enormous amount of static if it's set any louder than silent. A less expensive Safety 1st monitor (used at the grandparents' house last week) was completely quiet unless the baby cried. For now, I keep the monitor silent and use the sound indicator lights (a helpful feature) -- but that is only workable as long as I'm sitting at my desk.

I needed a cheap and temporary replacement for my nice (Sony) monitor that I accidentally left at my ILs. I headed out and bought the cheapest thing I could find....and that's what I got. A cheap monitor.

It looks and feels like a toy. If you drop it on the floor, it will likely shatter into a few pieces. The AC adaptor won't stay plugged into the receiver so I have to make sure that there is no tension on the cord from the receiver to the wall or it won't stay plugged in. Nice.

The sound quality is not surprisingly horrible. I hear mostly static but am able to hear my child when he cries or talks. There is also lot of interference. Any time a car passes by in front of our home, the signal breaks up and cracks and pops. And as I'm sitting here typing this, I hear faint music coming from the receiver. In case you're wondering, there is no music in my child's room. Must be picking up a subspace signal.

I had thought I might keep the cheap monitor and just leave it my ILs for future travel, however we will definitely be returning this one when my old monitor arrives. It's soooo not worth the hassle.

We bought this in 2009 for our first child and it does everything that is needed from a baby monitor. It does get static sometimes but not enough to prevent you from hearing your baby's squeaks, talking, or crying. We've slept many nights with the monitor on. We've also setup the monitor up to 30-40 yrds away from where our baby was sleeping in a basement bedroom (while on vacation) and had no trouble hearing what was going on. If you get too far away it'll start to get more static. This is by no means a top-of-the-line monitor but you don't need more for the $.
I decided to write this reveiw because I'm looking to buy another one.

6/5/11 Update: Our son was born last month but we couldn't find a good deal on this monitor so we tried another one. We ended up getting the Sony Babycall monitor. The Sony is okay but the range isn't as good (and it beeps at you when you're out of range instead of just getting a little more static), there isn't a light included with the base unit (very convenient for late night check-ins), the batteries aren't going to be as easy to change (we haven't had to change them yet but they're rechargable 2.4V supplied batteries instead of just AA), and it cost $10-$15 more. All that said, there is no reason to spend the extra cash. Just get the Fisher Price.

I bought this because of the good price. However, I had to return it (save the packaging until you try it out). It was completely unuseable. The static was so loud that it would have kept me up at night. I tried the two different settings and they both had way too much static.

As was said before, you do get what you paid for. It hasn't been a BAD receiver considering I only use it every so often for my son, HOWEVER . . . I have only had this monitor for 4 months and it is already broken. The first few times I used it, I got interference, static, could hear each and every word that someone in/near my neighborhood was having with their CB radio friends. The overhearing convos got so annoying that I had to turn to volume completely down and watch for the red lights to indicate my son was making noise! ALSO . . . I don't use the monitor on a "daily" basis, but the volume wheel, which is used to turn the receiver on, just completely stopped working. The past few days, it would turn and turn and turn THEN turn the unit on, but the volume wouldn't change once it was on . . . and it was difficult to turn off. It will now not even turn ON. The thing has never even moved off of the table, so it isn't like it's been being dropped and abused. Like I said before, it is OK if you want something cheap and are really using it very sparingly, but if you want something that is going to work for an extended amount of time, this is probably not a good choice.
