5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it!
My wife and I purchased this monitor for our first son and we LOVE it! There are reviews that state that it has issues with static, and sometimes it does. HOWEVER, because it has the lights that it does, if you keep those within your sight at a time when there is much static, they will light up when your child is making noise.

We are very impressed with this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much static
I have only used this monitor for five days, and will contact Fisher-Price soon to learn if my unit is defective. While the monitor functions, the receiver unit plays an enormous amount of static if it's set any louder than silent. While the monitor functions, the receiver unit plays an enormous amount of static if it's set any louder than silent. A less expensive Safety 1st monitor (used at the grandparents' house last week) was completely quiet unless the baby cried. For now, I keep the monitor silent and use the sound indicator lights (a helpful feature) -- but that is only workable as long as I'm sitting at my desk.

We purchased the first set when our son was born in 2009 and have never had a problem with static, etc., and we lived in a condo community. We purchased a second set now that our second son was born and have one receiver on channel A and the other on channel B. It works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it!, December 7, 2010

My wife and I purchased this monitor for our first son and we LOVE it! There are reviews that state that it has issues with static, and sometimes it does. HOWEVER, because it has the lights that it does, if you keep those within your sight at a time when there is much static, they will light up when your child is making noise.

We are very impressed with this monitor because of the distance we can go with it. I have taken the monitor with me to take the trash to the dumpster (around 200+ ft away) and I was still able to hear my mother and wife talking in it. We have noticed that using one of the two channels make a difference depending on where it is...and cell phones can cause the static interference.

With all that said, my wife and I were unable to find this same monitor for our second son (we live in a different state and a smaller town) and so we purchased a Sony Baby Call. We cannot stand this monitor. The range is horrible (I am sitting in the same house not more than 75 ft away and it is constantly beeping saying it is out of range. We are definitely returning the Sony and will purchase a Fisher-Price Sounds 'n Lights monitor online.

I highly recommend this monitor. If you keep the volume down (not all the way off), the static isn't bad and you will hear your child fine (not to mention the lights lighting up). It is worth it for the money!

We received this at the baby shower and it's been working OK for the past six months. Didn't realize how inexpensive it was until I started shopping around for a replacement. Here are my thoughts...

Pro:
~ decent range, even out into the yard
~ not too much static, even with cordless phones and wifi
~ like the nightlight feature on the base

Con:
~ I hate that the off button is on the same wheel as the volume control. When you turn it on before going to bed, you don't know what the volume is set at and if too loud, the first murmur wakes you. This is the reason we're looking for a replacement.
~ the lights on the receiver are pretty friggin' bright, could keep you awake if you're a light sleeper.
~ build quality is pretty cheap, haven't dropped one yet, but wouldn't want to.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Monitor EVER, April 11, 2009
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I bought this monitor when I was pregnant with our son. He's now 6 months old and we just moved him into his room from ours and started using this monitor. I've used it consistently for roughly a week, and it just broke today. The sound does not work at all. Not even faintly. Totally useless. My husband took it apart to see what happened, and the wires had completely come out of the speaker inside. I've learned that you use your baby monitor every day, and likely will until your child is an older toddler. Do yourself a favor and buy one that's not disposable like this one apparently is...

1.0 out of 5 stars Spend the money and get something better!!!!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
Ok, our monitor just died last night so I was on the search for a new one. My son is 2 so I only need a monitor for a few more months before he no longer needs it so I wasn't looking to spend a fortune. I did some research on the Sony and it looked good but was a little expensive so I put it back on the shelf and picked this one instead, the Fisher Price Sounds 'n Lights. As soon as we got home, I hooked it up in my son's room and put him down for a nap. I plugged in the receiver downstairs(no rechargable by the way) and was shocked when I turned it on and heard nothing! I moved into the kitchen and finally got a sound...STATIC!!! It was on a low setting and the amount of static was unbelievable! After trying to adjust the settings both downstairs and in my son's room, I have decided that I will be returning this to the store tonight and will buy the Sony that I should have bought in the first place!

First off- I live way out in the country, so I don't have the problems that the other users have with picking up noises from the outdoors. Perhaps that is the main reason others have had issues. For me the sound is crisp, clear, and there is little to no static. It seems to pick up only close range noises. We have it sitting next to the crib and have never had a problem with it. At night, if I'm feeling nervous, I'm able to turn up the sound loud enough to hear my baby breathing (and it's so clear that it doesn't wake my husband).

They could have made it sturdier. I don't have issues with it's functionality but in a busy household if it did fall off a table we'd likely have to buy a new one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Well, you certainly get what you pay for., August 28, 2008
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
I needed a cheap and temporary replacement for my nice (Sony) monitor that I accidentally left at my ILs. I headed out and bought the cheapest thing I could find....and that's what I got. A cheap monitor.

It looks and feels like a toy. If you drop it on the floor, it will likely shatter into a few pieces. The AC adaptor won't stay plugged into the receiver so I have to make sure that there is no tension on the cord from the receiver to the wall or it won't stay plugged in. Nice.

The sound quality is not surprisingly horrible. I hear mostly static but am able to hear my child when he cries or talks. There is also lot of interference. Any time a car passes by in front of our home, the signal breaks up and cracks and pops. And as I'm sitting here typing this, I hear faint music coming from the receiver. In case you're wondering, there is no music in my child's room. Must be picking up a subspace signal.

I had thought I might keep the cheap monitor and just leave it my ILs for future travel, however we will definitely be returning this one when my old monitor arrives. It's soooo not worth the hassle.

This monitor is horrible. It creates so much static and buzzes and wakes me up several times a night. Everything and anything causes interference with it -- microwave, radio, cell phone, heating pad. I also hear a radio station playing on it I've tried both A and B settings.

My advice -- DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for a while!, January 14, 2012
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sounds 'n Lights Monitor (Baby Product)
This monitor worked pretty decent for the first year. Not a lot of static, pretty clear. Over time though, it becomes worse and worse. My daughter is two years old now and the monitors are barely working, a lot of static, so much that we have to mess with it for about 10 mins to even get it to the point where we can hear it but that the static is not too loud that we can't sit in the room with it. I've spent the past 2 days online looking for a new monitor!
