4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised
I purchased this toy when my son was six months old. I didn't open it for two months as he really didn't sit up until eight months old. Now I wish I hadn't waited. He prefers to play with the toy while crawling around on his belly. I keep it on his play rug. He has quickly learned to turn the toy over to turn on the music and lights (no need to shake it). 3.0 out of 5 stars Symphony Star Beads
I have an 11 month old that plays with this toy. My only concern with this toy is he gets his leg caught inbetween the colorful plastic that holds the beads on. He has done this several times, and each time it is difficult to get the toy off his leg without causing him alarm.

He prefers to play with the toy while crawling around on his belly. I keep it on his play rug. He has quickly learned to turn the toy over to turn on the music and lights (no need to shake it). He will also flip the stars around, but not necessarily move them from one end to the other (I think he needs to sit up and play to do that). It must be one of my son's favorites, because he'll play with it for a few minutes, go to something else, but will always return to it before going to a third toy.

When my 7mth. old first saw this, he seemed very interested. After that, he isn't thrilled by it. This toy may become interesting, it has potential......w/the twinkling lites, classical music and coaster beads. It is very durable, my lil' guy has thrown it a couple of times, no breaks! I think maybe a younger infant...3mths would be really taken by the music/lites. But at 7mths, they're crawling, and its very hard to sit still!

I puchased this toy for my son when he was 3 months old. Too young to actually hold it and play with it, but if I hold it up in his eye range he loves to look at the lights and he loves the music. The only bad thing I found was that whan I shook it, my son nearly jumped out of his skin it scared him so bad. I then found that you don't need to shake it to make it play, you just need to tap it on its side. He liked that better. When he is old enough to play with it himself, I think he will love it.

I have twin girls (two months preemie) and at 6-7 months they like the toy and enjoy giggling it to get the lights to go. They are not moving the stars much yet. I have not had any problmes with them getting their arms or legs twisted in it. It has held up well, but not much they can do to it at this stage.

I work in a church nursery and one of the members donated one of these toys. The children simply love it. It is one of their favorite. Based on that, I bought one for my young nephew for his birthday. All those kids can't be wrong.

1.0 out of 5 stars Little fingers get stuck in the stars!, June 4, 2002

I bought this toy when my daughter was only 8 months old. I liked the fact that it was one of the few toys that a baby could activate without pushing a button or something equally hard for a small baby to do. Well, she ignored it for the most part, but I'm not going to blame the toy on that - she doesn't seem to play with any of her toys (is more interested in whatever she lies finding around the house). She is now 11 months and last night she actually played with it. Then, she started screaming. I ran over and saw that two of her little fingers got wedged in the star opening (between the plastic star and the bar that the star slides on). I quickly got them out, but basically had to pull the star off her fingers and she screamed some more. Luckily, it didn't leave any mark and a few seconds of comforting and she was okay. But I couldn't believe it! I won't let her play with it again!

my 8 mnth old son got this from grandpa on christmas and adores this thing. i had bought a bead runner made for my older toddler while back and my youngest wouldn't keep out of it. so when grandpa got this, it was the greatest toy i wouldn't object to, hehehe. It has a adjustable loudness button for two adjustments for the music it plays, and the music isn't too bad either. When you shake or bump the toy it turns itself on and plays one song, maybe two at a time, and shuts itself off until the next round. The beads are plastic as well as the runners so my son loves to chew on it. The on/off button is not bulky so they can't turn it off and get mad. Around the outter sides of the star are different colored discs that light up in coordinance to the music, kind of like christmas light chasers. the beads aren't too small, just right for baby's hand and easy to move on the runners. It is about the size of mini basketball (maybe a little larger) so not good for a smaller baby. My toddler being 4 now, loves this thing, so it's just not for babies either!! It is easy to grasp and pull along, as well as turn on for the baby. This is one toy, I won't be throwing out the door.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great hit!, May 29, 2002
This review is from: Fisher-Price Sparkling Symphony Star Beads Musical Toy (Toy)
We bought this for our daughter 3 months ago but I bet that she would have liked it earlier! (We got it for her when she was 6 mo). It was an instant hit. Most of her other toys got boring to her after only 1 or 2 months and had to be put away for awhile. Not this one though! This one she has played with every day for 3 months and it still fascinates.

The songs are fun, though I wish more of the songs they chose had words so we could sing along with her. But they did think of adjustable volume level, so that was great!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not age appropriate, October 22, 2001

I love this toy for my child, but at six months old it was too heavy for him. For an infant who cannot control arm movements very well, it is a little too hard (when they hit themselves with it). Other than that he is eight months old now and loves to see the lights and listen to the music. He hasn't really figured out how or why to move the stars back and forth yet. I would recommend this toy.
