4.0 out of 5 stars Super cool, but why so much money?!
I am getting this for my son for Christmas, and I know he will love it because he has seen the working display at Target stores. It's such a perfect gift from santa, but why so much money? Target has tons available in stores for $119, and they sell here for well over $200?! Great toy, can't wait to give it to my son for Christmas, but don't spend $200 when there are...

3.0 out of 5 stars What's with the battery covers?
This is a fantastic toy, but the screws that hold the battery compartments closed are so shoddily made that they stripped in three turns of a 0 x 3" Phillips head screwdriver-- which is the appropriate size to open the battery compartment. I assembled one for my 3 year old nephew on Christmas morning and had such a good time playing with it that I decided to go out and...

I was able to play with this toy before purchasing at a Fisher Price event. My 4 year old son didn't want to stop playing with it. I agree with the previous reviewer, I bought it at Target since Amazon's pricing was so high. I bought most of my son's toys last year off Amazon for cheaper or close to the same price as other major competitors but not this year- make sure to check out a few other websites/stores before buying.

We have had this for about a year and, like most things, there is good and bad. On the plus side it is fun to play with. The remote works well and it is easy for even young children to figure out how to use the remote. On the negative side, it can get stuck when it starts to walk. When this happens, the top two sets of red lights on the neck flash a few times and then it shuts down. You have to reset it or even force the legs into the correct position to get it to work again. Also, to charge the battery you have to unscrew the cover to the battery pack and then take it out to charge. We paid about one hundred twenty for it.

I wanted to get this toy for him at xmas he is 4 years old, everybody said they thought he wouldn't like. One month later one of his schoolmates brings it to class for show and tell and he went crazy over it to the point that the mother of the boy who brought it wanted to "lend" it to him overnight, when my daughter told me this I immediately got on the computer to find one, Amazon was the only place that had the red one which is what he wanted. He did not ask for the green one. Grandpa is always right when comes to toys because grandpa is also just a kid at heart.

3.0 out of 5 stars What's with the battery covers?, December 30, 2010

This is a fantastic toy, but the screws that hold the battery compartments closed are so shoddily made that they stripped in three turns of a 0 x 3" Phillips head screwdriver-- which is the appropriate size to open the battery compartment. I assembled one for my 3 year old nephew on Christmas morning and had such a good time playing with it that I decided to go out and get one for my own family. Sadly, the battery compartment screw stripped immediately rendering the toy useless. I took poor Spike back to the store and got a refund for defective merchandise.

Why on earth are they screwing battery compartments closed these days? If children aren't mature enough to know that they shouldn't remove and eat batteries, they probably shouldn't be using the toy in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars We LOVE Spike, December 26, 2010

Such a great toy! My son LOVES Spike. We have the red Spike Ultra and it really is awe-inspiring to see in action. Its colors are pretty nice. It has gold spikes along its spine which light up when in action. Its noises are just right in quality and as far as how loud (not too loud at all). The remote is as good as can be; we really like the picture buttons on the remote. We also bought a green Spike Jr and my son loves playing with both. They make for very exciting imaginative play.

Only two things I wish this toy had, a reverse button and I wish the design to recharge him was a better concept.. You have to unscrew is belly area everytime you need to take the battery pack out and recharge him. Can sometimes be a pain, to take the whole battery pack out everytime you need to recharge.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TOY!, October 24, 2010

My son got this for his 4-yr birthday and he LOVES it! Luckily we were able to buy it from another store for about $20 less than this site. Unfortunately Fisher-Price is not selling this toy anymore so you will need to pay the price others set. Other than that I am glad that we bought this for him! He was able to pick up the remote without any help from us and start controlling the dinosaur! With previous advice from other reviewers we charged the battery before we gave it to him so it was all ready to go right when he unwrapped it! Adults and other older kids also enjoyed playing with this dino! I highly recommend this!

We were a little worried by some reviews we read about multiple returns. No trouble with this toy since we purchased it several months ago. Very fun and interactve. The remote is kid friendly and durable. I would recommend this toy, especially for kids who like dinosaurs or robots.
