This review is from: Fisher-Price Kid Tough Portable DVD Player Pink (Toy)
My daughter got this for her 3rd birthday. Yes, the screen is small. You can see that through the packaging when you buy it so I'm not sure why anyone would purchase it thinking it would be bigger. The larger the screen, the larger the protective encasement would have to be. This would create a very large and heavy DVD player. People watch movies on their iPods and have no problem with a small screen. I do not find the screen size to be an issue. My daughter can see it fine and my son, sitting next to her in the car, can see it fine as well.
We have a regular portable DVD player, but I would never let her play with it. It's not a toy. But this is. If you just want a player that your child can watch then I would not spend the money on this. If you want one that your child can take where they want and you don't have to worry about it, then this is great. The battery life is about 2 hours. This is typical for any portable DVD player and actually longer than my laptop battery. I charge it every evening. The handle makes this very easy for carrying. When she pushes a button it makes a sound so I know when she's pushing them. The screen display is very crisp and the sound is great. I purchased the case and the travel kit as well. My older son plays travel baseball and we are on the road and at stadiums alot. This player is perfect for that. The only thing so far that I don't like is that the lid doesn't open all the way. You can see a picture of this in the other images at the top of the page. I think it would be easier to put the movies in if it did but that is really a minimal issue. My biggest issue is the price. I DO think it is way overpriced but it's the only player out there that does what I want it to do.

******UPDATE****** Many negative reviews of this product right at Fisher Price's webstore. See for yourself. Few reviewers would recommend this product. The same defects that I describe below. Poor quality control, apparently. Lots of unhappy parents and children this past Christmas. Shame on Fisher Price. Maybe they'll get it right next Christmas . . . . . if we dare to spend another $$$ on Fisher Price products again. As I already sent my lemon back to Fisher Price and am awaiting a replacement, I forget. Where was this product made? Is it time to boycott all "Made in China"?!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I saw the commercial for this player, got online, and read about it. It looked like/sounded like the perfect solution for parents of preschoolers. We thought this player would be perfect for our 3-year-old to take on the road and watch her DVDs in the car, or to watch in any room of the house, including right beside us, as we watched something else on TV, and being able to withstand a fall down the stairs and keep on playing was an awesome feature. At the time that I was shopping for this item, it was a HTF hot Christmas item, and it was virtually soldout everywhere. I paid top dollar for this POS, the matching pink travel case, and also got the on-the-go kit, which includes kid's headphones, headphone jack splitter, car charger, and RCA cable for the TV. We were excited to give this to our daughter, and she was excited about having her own DVD player that she could take anywhere. We charged it for 8 hrs. as per the instructions, but the LED that indicates charging shut off before 8 hrs. We then plugged in the RCA cable to the TV, popped in one of her favorite DVDs, and it didn't even get through that first DVD before it spontaneously shut itself off, and restarted the DVD from the beginning. We shut it off and restarted it multiple times, and the malfunctions just got worse. The screen went black, even though the picture appeared on the TV. It kept shutting itself off and restarting itself, and then, it just wouldn't play. That was the first DVD that we tried to play! We tried other DVDs, and it's still a POS. Those same DVDs play fine in our other DVD players and laptops. When I got back online, I found that there were multiple identical complaints about the Fisher Price DVD player at another webstore. I plan to call Fisher Price, but don't have high hopes for a remedy, as other parents stated that they contacted Fisher Price and the customer service (or lack thereof) was horrible, and Fisher Price already seems to know that these players are junk. Even if I can get a refund for this piece of garbage, given the other similar complaints that I've read, it doesn't seem wise at all to exchange it for another POS. Some parents were on their 3rd Fisher Price DVD player before finally turning it in for a refund! JUST DON'T BUY THIS, and you'll save yourself a lot of money and frustration. IT DOESN'T WORK. Or may fool you by working very briefly before malfunctioning, or no longer holding/accepting a charge. ***** FINAL UPDATE ***** We did receive a replacement player from Fisher Price 2 months after Christmas 2008 after mailing them the defective player using a prepaid shipping label provided by them (call the 800# on the package). The replacement player (refurbished by the looks of the scuff marks) does work, though still "locks up" occasionally, causing my daughter to have to shut the player off & on again, restart the movie, and find her spot again -- she hates that so much that even though it doesn't occur every time she uses it, she uses it infrequently. Battery life is 2 hrs. at most. And if charged, but not used frequently, you'll find that the charge has drained out of it, so you need to plug it in to watch anything or you need the 12-volt adapter for the car. We did buy a Lenmar universal external DVD player battery with 5 adapter cables/plugs for a plane trip (this may double your battery life). None of the adapters fit the Tough Player perfectly, but one fits well enough to work. However, that all adds bulk and extra cables, making use of the player and it's portability more cumbersome. The screen's resolution is great, but my daughter complains that it's too small. The player lags for about a second b4 responding to button presses, causing my impatient 4-year-old to push buttons repeatedly, which sometimes results in a "frozen screen," requiring a restart. Unfortunately, has become an expensive, little-used, "bright, shiny" thing. She has watched more movies on DH's Ipod Touch 2G in the car than the Tough Player. Final rating: not worth the $$$ or the aggravation.

I have 2 of them they are a super durable I have been purchase dvd player and all of them end up messup by my daughters but this is the best. Every time they begin to disturb in the car I gave each one their own dvd and they settle down right away!!! They each can watch watever they want and with the headphones do not disturb each other. If it was not for this dvd my traveling time would have been exausted! The screen could be a bit small but the colors and quality is outstanding. My daughters love them!
