I bought both the orange Pterodactyl and the blue Pterodactyl (which was part of the K-Mart pack) for my 3-year old who LOVES the Imaginext dinosaur line.

The Pterodactyl is great, but not perfect. What's notable about it is that all the other dinosaurs sport mining or towing equipment rather than traditional weapons, but the Pterodactyl doesn't. I guess it would make sense for a Pterodactyl to be working in a mine anyway, but he has actual missile launchers, which is unique. Maybe some parents might not like that this dinosaur has actual weapons rather than mining equipment, but it doesn't bother me.

The "driver" doesn't sit, but rather stands/lies across the saddle like a hang-glider. It makes sense when you think about it, but my 3-year old couldn't figure it out by himself, and kept trying to make the driver "sit" on the Pterodactyl.

The Pterodactyl is almost perfect, but I have 2 minor complaints...

- The legs don't move. The talons open and close by moving the tail, but you can't move the legs at all which makes it very difficult to stand it up. Standing the Pterodactyl requires you to open the talons, but it still gets knocked over easily.

- The harness for the armor doesn't snap on, it just sort of "hugs" the dinosaur, but it can slide off if you grip the dinosaur by the armor and pick it up. It would have been better if it actually snapped or fit more snugly. No other dinosaur has this problem.

I recommend the Pterodactyl despite the minor issues.

My son likes these dinossaurs. They are well made and cheaper than in my local store. Not the seventh marvell, but good quality toys.

My son, 8 years old, loves it. He wants to buy all of them.
It is strong, durable and the articulate parts work good. Good size.

My son enjoys this toy, however all of the accessories it comes with (things that go on its back for example) all fall off all the time. My child doesn't even bother trying to keep them on anymore and just plays with the bare dino.

Considering the amount of money I paid for this, I was very disappointed that it was basically Styrofoam. My grandson used it a couple times and it hit the wall and fell and broke. He got about a week out of it :(

I was looking for dinosaur toys for my 6yr old son and passed this over because I thought it would be better for younger children, I also thought maybe it had too many pieces and that something simpler would leave more room for imagination etc.. My mother-in-law happened to get it for him for Christmas and it is a huge hit. I was totally wrong about it being under his age range and I've seen more imaginative play come from this toy than many others. Its wonderful, I'm glad she got it for him, its not just another toy that sits around.

We got this toy for our possibly Autistic son hoping it would encourage him to pretend play. He's 4 and loves dinosaurs. It hasn't really helped with the pretend play, but he does enjoy shooting the darts. I imagine if your child were into pretend play this toy would be great. You can detach all of armor and just make it a regular pterodactyl.
