5.0 out of 5 stars Long Lasting Fun
Our son absolutely loved this durable toy. His friends played with it long term as well. There's so much for 1-3 yr olds to do as this helps them work on gross then fine motor skills. Easily hook up one or both open train cars behind the locomotive. Add durable engineer, dog and/or horse pieces. Train cars are large enough to fill with Duplos/blocks and/or other...

I bought this for my two year old's birthday. She loves vehicles and little people so I thought this would be a great toy for her. Unfortunately, it has quite a few problems.

The houses kind of push down into the track, and they snap off easily. The train only makes noises when it passes over a few places in the track. I thought the train itself would make some sound but it does not. The figures, such as the horse that come with the set are cute and well made.

HOWEVER, the train is far too large for the track. You can clearly see this by the picture on the box, that the train takes up more than half of the track. This didn't really seem like a problem to me until we took out of the box and my daughters (2 and 3 1/2) tried playing with it. Its nearly impossible to push the train around the track without the cars coming apart, and its not very entertaining either because the track is so small compared to the train!

For [...]I expected a bigger track and a train that made some sound. This is just terribly disappointing and my kids played with it for about two hours over the period of two days and have ignored it ever since. If you are looking for a trainset for your little one, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Easily hook up one or both open train cars behind the locomotive. Add durable engineer, dog and/or horse pieces. Train cars are large enough to fill with Duplos/blocks and/or other little toys and give them a ride around the track as well. Run the train car(s) around the track and get several different dog, horse, train song and choo-choo sound effects from each of the three sound stations each time they pass over them. Each of the three stations and barns require a different movement (rotate, tip) of the chimney piece to open each door, then slide or rotate doors to close again. Train is lightweight and good size for toddlers as batteries are contained underneath track. A young one needs action where they're sitting/crawling, so this works well for toddlers. Not sure why anyone would have a bad experience with this well loved toy...

My son just got this for his second birthday. It looked great, until we put it together. The "star" of the whole toy, the toy, is terrible! The design is just awful- the three cars just will not stay together as it goes around the track. Granted, they are easy enough to attach to each other, but who wants a train that you can't pull for more than 5 seconds without it coming apart? Plus, the train is too big for the track. Or the track is too small for the train!? In any case, the curves on the track are so sharp that you can't push the train around it w/o it coming off the track and/or coming apart. Overall, very poor design.
