Fishing Resort

You arrive in paradise, a beautiful resort on a tropical island where there’s an abundance of sun, sand, and of course, fish! Being on vacation, you’re free to spend the time however you see fit – get up early in the morning to go deep sea fishing, participate in the many varied activities that the resort has, or just spend a lazy day touring the aquarium.

As the days pass and you become more familiar with the area and hone your fishing skills, you also get a sense of the best fishing spots that the island has to offer. Do you rent a bicycle and ride to a remote location to fish for trout by a waterfall? Or perhaps test your skill and luck by kayaking deep into the jungle to see what kinds of fish await? You can even scale the top of a local mountain to enter a different climate and go ice fishing – this is your vacation, the choice is completely up to you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleeper Hit November 28, 2011
Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I was cautious of Fishing Resort, when a game is a new release and has a discounted price that is usually a red flag. But I ignored my "spidey-sense" and bought it (had to buy it with the rod, only one store in town had it and they only had one). I quickly discovered that I was wrong, Fishing Resort is a great game.

The beauty is in the simplicity: You're on vacation to Panagkapan Island (a tropical location that oddly has areas each with their own drastically different climate) and you're there to fish. The fish you catch earn you points (the currency on the island) and you use the points to buy new tackle and gear, as well as cloths for the character you create (you can't use you Mii, unfortunately). For those who want more substance, there are missions given by the other island-goers, daily activities to participate in (going trolling out in the ocean, catching specific fish for people, and competitions), as well as online leaderboards and new fish that are added via wi-fi (essentially, free dlc).

What I really enjoy is the cohesiveness: you wake up in your hotel room and make your way out to the beach. Don't want to walk? Purchase a bike for the day and go cycling. You never are required to accept missions or participate in extra activities (although it'll earn you more money), you can simply fish and enjoy the ambience. Too many fishing games I've tried are arcadey and break the immersion. This game embraces the quiet serenity of fishing.

As far as negatives go, the day night cycle is great but you're forced to go back to your hotel room when it gets too late (although eventually there is a way to stay out very late). The multiplayer is odd - when you're fishing you can add wii remotes and there will be another person fishing alongside you, whoever hooks first the camera zooms in on them as they reel in the fish. The fishing rod accessory works well...but I prefer playing without it. The motion controls really do work well (this game is actually motion-plus compatible, something not marked on the box) but casting my line doesn't always read.

It really is a fantastic game, and I know it will be overlooked. Obviously the publishers fealt the same way because the $20-$30 price is clearly not because of a lack of quality on the developers part. It's simply a great game with a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Game for Both Casual and Experienced Gamers November 26, 2011
Edition:Standard|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Fishing Resort is the most recent game from Prope, known for titles like Let's Tap and Ivy the Kiwi. In addition, their founder, Yuji Naka, created games like Sonic the Hedgehog and many more classics while at Sega. I sure hope XSEED can localize Rodea the Sky Soldier, Prope's other most recent game, as soon as they get an update from Kadokawa, who has failed to get the game out even though it's been completed for a while now.

Fishing Resort is a friendly game to get into, yet there's a ton of depth thanks to how sophisticated it is. You can roam around, dress your character in different outfits and stuff, ride a bike and other ways of transportation, add all of your fish to a huge aquarium that you get all to yourself, as well as fishing. It really is a fishing role-playing game.

Many people may just see this game and dismiss it as another poorly made cheap Wii game, but they'd be ignorant to do so, because Fishing Resort is made by a group of veteran game designers and it shows. If you like Endless Ocean and other calm and soothing gaming experiences, you absolutely shouldn't miss out on Fishing Resort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hubby LOVES this game! December 23, 2011
Edition:Standard|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My husband is a very picky gamer and when I saw this game I figured, what the heck, he loves to fish, he might like it on those cold winter days when we are stuck inside. OMG this game rocks. He has nothing negative to say about it. He really loves the variety and building the fish tanks are his personal quest. Great game and if you know someone who loves to fish or just likes pretty scenery, get it,,, I am so glad I did. Thanks to the great reviews that helped me decide. Oh and I do agree, you really do not need the reel unless you just want another accessory to find a place for. Thanks Amazon for this great game offer!
