Superb tackle resource when living outside of the US.
I've been fishing for nearly 50 sears since I joined the Bellmore Rod and Gun Club, Long Island, NY, as a boy in the early 1950's. I am now a senior federal government employee assigned overseas and find it difficult to find and buy the kind and quality of tackle I'm used to. Bill Mussen's compendium brings the US markets to me. Easy to use, his listings (by...

Good data - poor quality - overpriced
I was both happy and disappointed. On a positive note, it lists plenty of sources for everything from common to esoteric tackle. You definately get an A+ for tracking-down sources. Unfortunately: (a)it was printed on super thin, cheap paper which will tear easily after repeated use or when touched with damp fingers. For $25 you could have used 20lb bond! (b)it's...

This review is from: Fishing Tackle Source Directory (Paperback)
I've been fishing for nearly 50 sears since I joined the Bellmore Rod and Gun Club, Long Island, NY, as a boy in the early 1950's. I am now a senior federal government employee assigned overseas and find it difficult to find and buy the kind and quality of tackle I'm used to. Bill Mussen's compendium brings the US markets to me. Easy to use, his listings (by discipline) of equipment and service providers' names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses provide quick access to equipment, advice, and assistance of hundreds of professional fishing gear suppliers. Fellow workers who have scaned my copy commented on the book's completeness and overall utility, and the author's obvious dedication to his task at hand. A "must have" reference for American fishermen overseas who want to maintain access to familiar suppliers or for foreign anglers who want quick and easy access to US markets.

Informative source book for the serious fisherman, November 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Fishing Tackle Source Directory (Paperback)
I liked Bill Mussen's Fishing Tackle Source Directory. The entries were detailed and informative. I particularly liked the way the material was indexed and the appendices were very useful. For example, I recently moved to Georgia and was able to use Apprendix II to find information on a local tackle dealer who specialized in flyfishing as well as a tackle company who also offers guided trips on private waters. While I enjoy searching the web when I have time it is nice to have this source directory to save time and help to focus my efforts. This directory is something the serious fihserman can use on a regular basis.

Unfortunately: (a)it was printed on super thin, cheap paper which will tear easily after repeated use or when touched with damp fingers. For $25 you could have used 20lb bond! (b)it's printed 2 columns per page - very hard to read! (c)there's more data in the index than in individual company listings. For example, "rod building" references several companies whose description doesn't even mention rod building supplies. (d)last, but not least, it's overpriced at $25. Unless you're going to order hundreds of catalogs, save your money and spend a couple of evenings with Yahoo, looking for tackle stores.

Great resource, a must have book for the serious fisherman, October 9, 1998
This review is from: Fishing Tackle Source Directory (Paperback)
I find this compilation of various, numerous suppliers of all kinds of tackle and supplies to be very well done. While I have not contacted all the suppliers listed in the book, the information that I have used has proven to be very accurate. I recommend a copy of this source directory to any serious fisherman, saltwater, fresh or fly, it doesn't matter it is all here.
