Fishman Aura Imaging Pedal--Nylon String,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fishman Aura Imaging Pedal - Nylon String (Electronics)
I'm tweaker and am always looking for ways to improve my classical guitar tone. Of course a concert classical played acoustically is the ultimate in sound, but if you do causal gigs--weddings, dinners, etc.--you gotta amp it up. So I connected the Aura between my Hirade TH8S Classical Guitar and Trace Acoustic TA50R amp and started diddling the knobs.
Hmm, not one of the 16 preset programs sounded worth a darn. Most were muddy and unbalanced. Certain pitches like A and B-flat constantly feedback. I cranked down the mix from full to 50% and no improvement. Finally at 25% Aura and 75% guitar pickup I caught a glimpse of a decent tone. Still, plenty of feedback and I had to flip the phase switch every time I changed programs. I pressed the bypass and it was like the heavens opened in glorious tone and harmony. The straight guitar tone was by far the best. Finally I tried it through the effects loop and, it was a little better (post EQ), but basically the straight guitar trumped the Aura by a country mile. In fairness, the Cool Tubes pickup in my $2000 Hirade is excellent and the Trace TA50R is among the best acoustic guitar amps ever made. Kinda hard to improve on. Nevertheless, the Aura is a long ways from the sound of a studio mic. It sounds similar to an omnidirectional dynamic mic (like an old Shure) with all the wolf tones, frequency bumps and feedback. It's hard to get feedback outta my setup but the Aura somehow managed. The Aura is beautiful, well constructed but sonically flawed. The best thing about it is Amazon's great return policy.
