I purchased the fishman rare earth humbucking pickup largely based on the reviews I read on amazon and other forums. I must say that I am extremely pleased with the sound. I am using in on my Guild D-4 and playing through a fender acoustisonic amp. a little reverb and a little delay and it sounds amazing. Previously I used a basic Dean Markley pickup and it buzzed pretty bad. No buzz or hum with this one. I would 100% recommend this pickup.

This pickup is sweet! You get a nice, crisp sound out of it. I personally play it with my Martin guitar in a rather large church. It is perfect for that.

EDIT: Nearly three years later, being put through extensive use, I've had to replace the batteries only once.

I like them. I have 5 of them. I first got the single coil and had noise. Fishman offered a discount and trade to the humbucker and so on.

Awesome. I never thought I'd get sound like this from a screw-on pickup. Literally seconds out of the box and you're playing. I use this with my Seagull S6 and Fender Acoustasonic Jr. Really, really great value to go with the really, really great sound.

take some advice if you like....I have been playing guitar for over 30 years and am currently playing solo acoustic professionally. The Fishman Rare earth humbucker does exactly what it is intended to do, which it to reproduce the sound it takes in faithfully... What so many people don't realize is that the job of reproducing the sound is not over yet !!
Every acoustic pickup..soundhole and Under saddle require some EQ and preamp balancing ( my opinion ) .....some of that can be done by the preamp section of a good acoustic amp, and thats it... but if you are plugging into a PA system... you will really want to get yourself a good Preamp.. or Direct Box.... what you chose to use is really a matter of choice.. I use the K and K pure preamp which is simple to use and not expensive, and it has the right EQ curve for acoustic guitar... i also use the Fishman Pro EQ, for Under the saddle pickups..that works well with the pickup too.. it just has more EQ, which the UST needs
The Fishman rare earth is every bit as good as the LR Baggs, Duncan , Dimarzio and others.....they all do pretty much the same thing.. just sound somewhat different, as all pickups do.... if you want to set yourself apart, get a good pickup like this and also a decent preamp, and learn how to use it.. I suggest keeping it as simple as possible... Cheers

I like the fact that it can be "partially" installed with the cord coming out of the sound hole or it can be easily installed on a more permanent basis by cutting the cord to length and running it inside the guitar body through the end pin hole (which will have to be enlarged a bit). Either way, once plugged in, it sounds great. This pickup maintains the great acoustic sound of my guitar, a Blueridge BR-160. I installed some Fishman "under the saddle" pickups in a few Martin guitars and this pickup sounds just as good, if not better. If you don't mind the pickup visible in the sound hole, this is the way to go. Another nice thing about it is the ease of changing out the batteries as compared to the undersaddle type pickups where the batteries are attached to the inside body of the guitar.
