I use the Fishman pro-eq platinum to live performances when I play my nylon classical guitar.Together with an AKG C411 PP contact mic,it gives me an almost perfect nylon guitar sound.I can play bossa and even classical music with the great tone of my best guitar. The resulting sound is amazing. This system I use is far better than any piezo. No comparison.Best regards from Rio-Brazil.

I've had one of these for a while. I play a variety of different quality environments from poor to very good PA systems, and the Fishman is one of the go-to boxes to dial in the sound. It's got a surprising amount of control over the sound, can be phantom-powered, and can do pre or post out on XLR. It's easy to use and sounds good - both of which are good things when setting up quickly on unfamiliar stages.I rate it highly - the only thing I'd prefer is controls a bit more recessed to protect them, and a more rectilinear case. But those are minor, and the sound improvement is quite major.....

Installing a pickup on a Dobro is non trivial. It is important to retain the 1930's Victrola sound when recording. I installed a passive Schatten pickup, and I was inaudible during recording. Ordered the Fishman preamp, set it up, and the difference was astonishing. My levels were reasonable, and the dobro sounds just like it was from the 1930's.Importantly the unit has the usual attributes of Fishman products. Durable, reliable, and a feature set that an acoustic musician really needs, no more no less. Running off phantom power from the mixer is really convenient

I go this preamp to go with a passive piezo Fishman bridge I had put on my Godin 5th Avenue, which was pretty tinny without it, and it sounds a lot better without it, but I think the pickup is still too weak because I hear this whoomp sound when I play hard... I'm excited to own this, it works great with my guitar and ukulele that have electric electronics... I'm not sure about how it works with passive piezo pickups though.

I've used this EQ for lots of different shows. I'm primarily a performer, but I also engineer on the side. With this little DI, I no longer have to struggle through Boston's bus and railway system lugging around a heavy amp along with my Taylor. In fact, this DI fits inside my guitar case for an even easier commute! The built in preamp on this thing is killer. The tone of the guitar and its pickup really come through nicely and I like the available notch filter allowing me to dial out any feedback on stage (something that was lost when Taylor switched from Fishman to the ES system.)From the other side of the spectrum, as an engineer, I've lent out this puppy to the performers since I knew they didn't have any acoustic amps on site. Two guitars went through this DI; an Ibanez acoustic and an older Taylor nylon string model. This preamp handled both guitars very well. The Ibanez had a nice sparkle and the Taylor had nice punchy mids. All in all, I think this DI made the show run much MUCH more smoothly. I have no regrets buying this. It sounds miles better than any 'all purpose' DI box and comes with enough features to really dial in the tone you want on whatever stage you're given. |
