Generally this is a very good system and I use it all the time.

I'm satisfied.

Why then four stars and not five?

It could be even better...

The chest pack is small. On the one hand, this is good - it doesn't stick out and get in the way as some others do. But the price you pay for this is limited capacity - you won't easily accommodate two fly boxes as well as the usual assortment of gadgets and supplies. The choices are to consolidate into one fly box with a bullpen box stored in the back pack or to somehow retrofit the chest pack to add capacity.

I've chosen to do the latter.

Nice as Fishpond's signature zip down fly bench is, I've installed an external fly patch and am using the zip bench as an additional storage compartment. I'm also adding bungee cord holders for external storage of vials of split shot, floatant materials, and other essentials. In addition, I increase capacity with a tippet spool carrying lanyard. This is a good add on, as the chest pack is positioned low and out of the way.

The back pack is perfect as is. I'd recommend adding the optional 100 ounce hydration bladder. With this set up, you can chase those wily trout all day long and into the evening...

These backpack/chest pack conbos make a great replacement for the old fishing vest. What's great about this one is that the chest pack can come off for minimal trips.
