Book Description

August 1, 2002
  • Learn to tie terrestrials, dry flies, bass flies, nymphs, poppers, and saltwater flies
  • Long-awaited book by well-known fly tier Fishy Fullum

With an artist's deft touch, Fishy Fullum presents 27 original, innovative, and effective fly patterns. Each fly was designed to be tier friendly, using a few readily available materials and taking less time and skill to tie than more elaborate ties. Materials lists, step-by-step tying instructions, and introductions describing the fly give all the necessary help for tying these simple yet unusual flies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing's fishy about this book, September 16, 2002

This review is from: Fishy's Flies (Paperback)
Fishy's patterns are a marvel of creativity and resourceful design. His recipe for making hopper wings from interface material treated with model airplane dope is pure elegance, as is his tip for using a large sewing needle to thread rubber legs through foam bodies. The book is well-written, with concise, step-by-step pattern recipes spiced with fishing anecdotes drawn from decades of experience. The tying instructions and hand-drawn illustrations are well done. although I feel the book suffers a bit from a lack of photos of the finished flies.

This review is from: Fishy's Flies (Paperback)
Fishy's Flies is a book that I have read and used many times over to create flies that are both simple and very effective. Jay Fullum has placed many of his creations in an easy to read and use format that is entertaining and very well illustrated. Step by step instructions for flies from Panfish to Saltwater. I would recommend this book to any fly tier.

This is a companion book to one other by Jay Fullum and my grandson and I enjoyed both books equally well. My granson has made some of Jays creations and they respond well in use on the water.
