1.0 out of 5 stars This crimper breaks too easy! December 28, 2010
By Annie
Today I purchased the 6 1/2" Fiskars Paper Crimper to use on regular Kraft card stock paper so I could create labels for my handmade soaps. The Fiskars label says it will crimp Card Stock, Foil, Bond, and Construction Paper. The first time I ran a piece of card stock through it, the crimp or ripple barely showed at all. I tried a second time thinking I had not done something right or had not squeezed the handle all the way down. I reinserted my 3" strip of card stock between the crimper rollers and lightly/gently squeezed the handle (the handle will only go down so far) and turned the key -- The next thing that suddenly happened is the crimper fell completely apart! It was broken! On closer inspection I found that when the handle is squeezed, the total pressure and stress go on two tiny round metal pins, one located on each side of the crimper head. They are the only thing holding the two halves of the crimper (or rollers) together. Each pin runs through a small plastic eye (a part of the handle), which is only 1/8" thick around the pins. The total stress are on just these two tiny areas. It broke the very first time I used it. One eye was completely broken in half (crimper does not stay together now), and the eye on the other side is cracked, but still holding. I would like to add here that I only used a gentle or normal pressure when I squeezed the handle. This crimper works great on regular weight paper, but does NOT work on card stock as it says. It's possible I purchased this crimper already broken, but this is an inherent weak spot on the crimper and I feel it would eventually have broke like it did with normal use anyway. I was extremely disappointed with this crimper and will be returning it from where I purchased it. I think the Fiskars company could have done a better job with its design and durability, it is a bit pricey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paper Crimper or just crimper September 26, 2010

This is a great product. I do not use it as a paper crimper but as a soda can crimper. It is great for making siding and or roofing material for Buildings for G scale Train layouts. it is almost to the perfect 1:24 scale. You must be slow and take it easy but it works great with no damage to the Crimper.
This is a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun gadget! January 18, 2012
By . .
I found this at a thrift shop. It is made of heavy plastic, with metal crimper rollers and metal pins holding them in place, seems pretty sturdy. It does make a great wavy crimp. It's not a sharp crimp like Ruffles potato chips, more like cupcake liner wavy, but even and parallel, not tapered. In fact, when we were playing around with it, someone's first thought was that it would make great sleeves to put around cupcakes. Putting paper in folded, or at an angle, or running through a second time at a different angle has made interesting patterns.

Paper is put in between the rollers, the handle squeezed, and the thingy on the side turned to run the paper through. If using cardstock or multiple layers of paper, if the handle isn't squeezed tightly, the crimp is more shallow, or even just a ribbed pattern. With a single sheet of printer paper, the wave is consistent as long as the handle is gripped enough to catch the paper through the rollers. We've run five or six sheets through at once without problems. Roller just needs to be run more slowly with thicker paper.

Fun product!

1.0 out of 5 stars Crimper
This was NOT the crimper I thought I ordered. I wanted the Wavy crimper. I have this
crimper. It is too costly to send back, so I will give it to one of my friends.
