Product Description

Product Description

Fiskars Power-Lever Hedge Shears feature compound lever technology that multiplies your leverage to give you up to two times more cutting power than traditional single-pivot shears. To make high, hard-to-reach or awkward cuts easy, these shears also include handles that extend and lock securely. Fully hardened, precision-ground steel blades feature a serrated edge to grip while cutting, and a patented self-sharpening design ensures that every cut is clean and crisp. A rust-resistant, low-friction coating makes every cut even easier, shock-absorbing bumpers absorb jarring vibrations, and durable steel handles with non-slip grips offer control.

From the Manufacturer

The patented four-point pivot design as much as doubles cutting power, while the new telescoping steel handles extend from 24-3/8-Inch to just over 31 Inch to trim towering hedges down to size. (Softgrip cushioning makes the handles easier on hands, too.) Even better, the 10-Inch blades feature a patented self-sharpening design for more utility, less maintenance.

Customer Reviews

This is another outstanding product from Fiskar.

With the telescoping feature, it allows for easier cutting of the hard to reach places.

When fully extended works very well and is very easy to extend the handles.

The telescoping works, but the design requires extra brute-strength to use at the extended length.

I got these shears to reach the tops of bushes that I can't get with my old short-handled shears, but that don't warrant investing in specialized power tools.

My reach was indeed extended, but I found the shearing slow going. It turns out that the 9" blades (vs the 10" more common for this sort of tool) provide less leverage. And if I'm reaching out, my arms will naturally be closer together, making it harder to use the full cutting motion.

The end result is I get greater reach than with my old shears, but must use notably more effort to actually cut anything. For me, this limits the tool to selective pruning rather than shaping or hedge-trimming.

The extending part of the handles is plastic, but the on the whole appears well constructed.

The unique product design moves this up from 3 to 4 stars, but if you're doing a lot of hedge-clipping, something with better leverage will make your life a lot easier. Recommended with reservations.

Update: After a heavy multi-hour session one day, I find the blades no longer line up exactly right (there's a slight click every time I close the blades), even though I normally make a point of cleaning/oiling the blades regularly. So I'll add the caveat "lightweight use only"

I could immediately tell by looking at these hedge shears that they are for light duty. To me, they seem better designed for garden use. I noticed the other two posters commented on the drawbacks of pruning shrubbery. I haven't tried using them on shrubs yet, but I would probably agree with that. You can tell by the size of the blades that they would not hold up well to pruning. I think they're best for trimming the greenery or very small woody branches, but not to tackle anything like privet or forsythia. However, my purpose for buying these shears was not to use on shrubs. I needed a telescoping lightweight trimmer to cut the plants in my pond and they work great for that. Being female with a smaller frame, I needed something that was lightweight and wouldn't tire my arms. You'd think this would be easy to find, but not so much. So be forewarned all you maniacal hedge-aholics out there, you should choose another brand with larger blades if your primary purpose is to prune thicker branched hedges. Or choose the telescoping bypass lopper which Fiskars also makes. For people whose concern is the weight of the tool and only need it for light duty, this will work fine. As a side note to the other posters, Fiskars offers a lifetime warranty, so if you think something is wrong with the tool, you should contact the company.

Works fairly well. I especially like the ability to lock the arms in extended positions for reaching shrubbery at greater heights.

Downsides: I wish the blades were tighter against each other to better cut thicker shrubs.

When I received these, at first I was very pleased with the ergonomics. They feel right and give you confidence to handle any courtyard task. The handles are just the right shape to fit in your hand.

When I took a close look at the blades, I was somewhat less enthused. Either these are used or the metallurgy fell far short of your best German or Swedish steel. They look rather crude, almost scruffy. That doesn't fill me with confidence.

As some reviewers have noted, these are purpose-built for small gardens and courtyards, NOT for your sprawling manor grounds. I would guesstimate that my 1/2 inch shrub branches are about the limit. Sure, you could attempt tree branches, but the labor involved would be high and the longevity of the shears would plummet to weeks vs. years.

Overall, for the price, they're great for my minor requirements. If you want comfortable shears for a small weekly task, then this is your choice. If not, look for something bigger and better.

The Shears come packaged good and arrived as promised. They worked very well and made clipping the flowers and hedges an easy task. The telescoping handles are a very nice touch and work well. The problem that we had with the Shears, after some use a rivet pin which holds one of the handles to a blade pivot point that works as the Power-Lever to enhance the cutting force came out. Upon inspection the other three rivet pins were found to be loose also. I was able to make a pin and tack weld it in place as well as tack welding the other pivot pins. The Shears work fine again but only because we were able to repair them.
If either of the four pins is not in place the Shears are useless. If you are going to use these shears more than just occasionally through the summer I would look at another option.

Very satistified with this product. I have MANY hedges in my yard. This product has really made a difference in how my yard looks. The telescoping handle works beautifully. Also very impressed with what I can get through with this blade. When I look for additional tools to work in my yard with I will choose Fiskars everytime due to this product!

I use this to trim small hedges and climbing vines on the top of my 7' fence. It works fine for me. It feels stable when fully extended and the cutting action works well. The build quality seems good too.
