5.0 out of 5 stars Splitting Ax is A-OK
This will be the second one of these I have had. I lost my other one and couldn't do without. I use it to split large pieces of firewood into smaller and to split a log up small enough to make my own kindling. While I was without one, I tried to do this with a plain camping hatchet and was surprised at how many whacks it took to split a log. If you hit it right, the...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Amazon Title Says this is a Chopping Axe!
Please be informed that this is not a Chopping Axe as Amazon has listed, but instead it is a splitting axe. I already have a splitting axe and did not want to purchase a second one!

If you hit it right, the Fiskars Splitting Ax will split about any log in just one whack. You won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good axe for the money, March 21, 2011

This review is from: Fiskars 7853 23.5" Splitting Axe (Lawn & Patio)
I was looking for an axe large enough to do some felling but compact enough that I could pack it on select hiking trips if I chose. Some folks have broken handles and reported edge chipping with the Fiskars axes so I was a little hesitant at first, but for $30 shipped I thought I would try it. The axe itself has performed well. It swings well and with the woods I've been cutting, the edge has held up great. The only down side is the blade cover. I made one out of kydex but Fiskars should ditch the monstrous hang and carry cover and go with a simple compact edge cover for those that aren't just leaving this axe in the shed or carrying it in the truck tool box. I would recommend this axe though. It's not a Wetterlings or Gransfors Bruks, but for $30-ish, it's well worth it.
