5.0 out of 5 stars ease of use
having wasted money on cheaper pruners before, it was about time to buy a decent set.

The lower handle doesn't open like with a regular 'scissor' style - it rolls down the palm of the hand. To close regular pruners, you almost have to 'curl' your fingers in, this pruner allows you to 'fold' your fingers in at the knuckle.

having wasted money on cheaper pruners before, it was about time to buy a decent set.

The lower handle doesn't open like with a regular 'scissor' style - it rolls down the palm of the hand. To close regular pruners, you almost have to 'curl' your fingers in, this pruner allows you to 'fold' your fingers in at the knuckle.

try this to see what i mean -

with your hand palm up, thumb straight out to the side. Fold your fingers at the knuckle so they cover your palm. That's how these pruners cut.

now, try using a regular pair of pruners or scissors to see the difference.

After half a garden of pruning with these, it feels a LOT better than it did with other pruners.

If you've not got the strongest hands in the world, this pruner is for you - it allows you to use the force of your whole hand at the same time not just a few fingers. This same action makes using the pruner while wearing gloves a lot easier too.

5.0 out of 5 stars arthritis relief, June 10, 2009

I first tried this product at the International Master Gardener Conference trade show. The Fiscars rep said they'd be available at any of the big box stores that sell Fiscars products, but that turned out not to be true. My local Home Depot and Target sell the larger "arthritis friendly" model but not this smaller one. The cutting action is smooth and easy and the pruner fits my hand perfectly. If you have arthritis in your thumbs this tool is amazing. Instead of squeezing the handle, your fingers roll towards your thumb so there's very little pressure on your joints. I absolutely love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power for Underpowered Hands, May 30, 2009

My Fiskars 3X PowerGear Bypass Pruner performs as advertised, making effortless cuts through live branches up to 3/4-inch in diameter - and sometimes through thicker branches, as well. It's lightweight, yet durable. I have used it continuously for over an hour with no hand-cramping or blisters. I use it on lodgepole pine, spruce, fir, aspen and willow. It cuts through live branches like a hot knife through butter. I wish Fiskars would have made the handles bright red or orange instead of black, however. Black looks sleek but is easily lost among garden and forest foliage when I lay it down to change to another tool. I am going to put red duct tape on the stationary handle.

2.0 out of 5 stars wrong size for me and soft blades dull quickly, December 24, 2010

First, you'll have to see how this pruner is designed to know why having the too small size version may amplify the inconvenience. Other users and the website describes its unusual handle design so read up on it to get more background. My mistake was that the version I got was too small for my hand which meant at the end of the downstroke, due to the inward rotation of the bottom handle, my fingertips would get tucked in between the handles and end up getting pinched. It's not too painful but can get very annoying especially if you have a lot to cut. If you insist on this fiskars product, I would probably consider gettting the larger sized version 7936 which may minimize this problem.

Second, the blades are disappointingly soft. They don't just get dull....they become jagged after just a couple of months of light use on branches well within it's limits. This is a far cry from the excellent-quality diamond-hard blades of the 27" Fiskars PowerGear bypass lopper that I also bought with this. (now that tool is just *AWESOME* and there's just no comparison in quality.)

I would seriously consider checking out other pruners. I don't think the blades should be this soft at all.

Not recommended.

You can't beat Fiskars for comfortable, effective performance. My senior-citizen aunt with mild arthritis in her hands was thrilled to receive this after wearing out a previous one for many years, and she keeps telling me how well it works for her.

I bought these for my husband and he has done nothing but rave about them. Since he is rather particular about his gardening, I can comfortably say that is a great recommendation in itself. He brought them in the other day to show me something about the handle swiveling so the lock won't catch while you are using them...? I'm just glad he is so excited about his new pruners!

The rotation of the handle was perfect which decreased the pressure required. My wife enjoys it as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good rolling-handle pruner for home gardeners, February 14, 2011
This review is from: Fiskars 7937 PowerGear Bypass Pruner (Lawn & Patio)
Length:: 3:21 Mins

As a longtime fan of Bahco pruners, I was surprised to like these Fiskars ones as much as I do. The handles have a fat grip that is really comfortable in my hand, and the rotating handle has a much nicer design than some of the others I have seen. The power gear made each cut go smoothly, and I really enjoyed pruning with these. They cut through stems up to about a half inch thick with ease, and didn't strain my wrists.

The one feature they seem to be missing is a sap groove, to catch the sap before it gums up the moving parts. Other than that, the feel of these is superb, and they are easy to grip in comparison with the Bahco and Felco rolling-handle pruners, which I found slightly cumbersome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fiskars PowerGear Bypass Pruner #7937, August 7, 2008

Bypass are being used to cut anything " green" within it's cutting capability, and because when you squeeze and cut, the handle you pull up also rotates to reduce figer fatigue, you might lose grip when wearing gloves, so remember to use this line of pruner bare handed, cuts great under normal posture, also with palm down position, not so when palm facing up, so you switching hands to do the job, and that's when you will find out the power gear handle only rotates clockwise, and the design is not useful in your left hand, so left hand user beware.
