Fiskars PowerGear Bypass Lopper offers 32 inches of pure lopper goodness. This superior-grade tool is lighter, stronger, and more powerful than anything you've ever used. A unique gearing mechanism multiplies the cutting force by nearly three times over single pivot loppers and the smooth action eliminates the jarring conclusion at the end of cuts. Includes razor-sharp, precision-ground blades. The bypass-blade design provides for cutting living growth and has a 2-inch cutting capacity.
When pruning, the weight of the tool and the position of the hand and fingers can cause tension and stress, resulting in muscle and joint strain. When ergonomics are given prime importance in design, the result is products that require less muscle power and reduce joint strain.
The goal of the Fiskars' design team was to increase power, reduce effort and minimize weight – in short, to make pruning easier. The solution was a totally new gear mechanism that provides maximum leverage near the middle of the cut, when resistance is the greatest. That means a more compact tool can cut with a fraction of the effort required by larger single-pivot tools.
The use of reinforced fiberglass composite materials (FiberComp) allowed for lighter handles to further reduce strain and fatigue while maintaining strength and durability.

Fiskar's PowerGear Loppers,
By Dottie M. Jahoda (Farmington, Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fiskars 9154 PowerGear 32-Inch Bypass Lopper (Lawn & Patio)
I'd like to say first that the price for this item is unbelievable. I've seen it locally in a hardware store and in a gardening catalog I receive for at least $15 dollars more than the Amazon price. The loppers are very light and the power gear makes it very easy to get the torque needed to cut through one inch to one and a half inch limbs with no sweat. I've got average strength, middle-age and arthritis and am able to enjoy cutting brush with these..mostly saplings and tree limbs that I want to clear along my driveway. I know Fiskars is a good name in cutting shears for sewing and I hadn't realized that they also manufactured tools; but I'm extremely happy to have found this out.

The best loppers I've ever owned!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fiskars 9154 PowerGear 32-Inch Bypass Lopper (Lawn & Patio)
I've owned a lot of pairs of loppers and I always seem to break or bend the handles. Not so with the Fiskars. I am a strong healthy guy and I can cut through anything I can get into the jaws. This includes branches dead or alive up to 2 inches. I have been using my Fiskars for the last three years for cutting ski and hiking trails in Maine and they continue to perform better than anything I've ever used in the past. Another benefit are the bright orange handle ends. I used to tie surveyors flagging to my tools so I wouldn't loose them if I put them down in heavy brush. The Fiskars handles are always visable and easy to find inspite of my absentmindedness. The price at Amazon is the best I've seen by $10-20. Having used this tool hard for the last three summers, I don't think I will ever have to get another pair of loppers again.

I don't write that many reviews, but this product is worth raving about.
For years now I've been using various cutting tools for handling the wild area behind my house. Every piece of every tree I cut down either winds up going through the chipper or becomes firewood. So in building the arsenal to do all that efficiently, having a good pair of loppers is essential. This model is nothing less than superb. The chief features to me are: 1. Most importantly, the outer tips of the blades are beveled, thereby preventing them from ever overlapping as the cut is being made so as to prevent them from destroying themselves via chipping the edges. My old cutters failed to have this feature, and I had to constantly watch each and every cut, and I *still* had chipped blades due to this overlapping. 2. Very light. 3. Very strong. The aluminum handles are shaped so as to use the minimum material while maximizing strength along the plane where the force is exherted. My last loppers seemed pretty beefy, but I eventually broke one of the fiberglass handles in half, so metal handles are a must in my book. 4. Cuts like butter, and handles anything piece of wood that will fit in the jaws. The gear action is smooth and highly effective. 5. Easy to spot in the brush thanks to the orange highlights, and in general a very attractive tool.
