5.0 out of 5 stars Fiskar's PowerGear Loppers
I'd like to say first that the price for this item is unbelievable. I've seen it locally in a hardware store and in a gardening catalog I receive for at least $15 dollars more than the Amazon price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good cutting action, but it has drawbacks
While these do cut well, the movement of the gears means that the handles have to be moved through a wide arc to actuate the blade. This makes their reach shorter because you have to spread your arms wide. So in thick brush or in a tree with tight branches it can be nearly impossible to make a cut. The other drawback is the thick gears make the head quite heavy so the...

I'd like to say first that the price for this item is unbelievable. I've seen it locally in a hardware store and in a gardening catalog I receive for at least $15 dollars more than the Amazon price.

The loppers are very light and the power gear makes it very easy to get the torque needed to cut through one inch to one and a half inch limbs with no sweat. I've got average strength, middle-age and arthritis and am able to enjoy cutting brush with these..mostly saplings and tree limbs that I want to clear along my driveway.

I know Fiskars is a good name in cutting shears for sewing and I hadn't realized that they also manufactured tools; but I'm extremely happy to have found this out.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best loppers I've ever owned!, September 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Fiskars 9154 PowerGear 32-Inch Bypass Lopper (Lawn & Patio)
I've owned a lot of pairs of loppers and I always seem to break or bend the handles. Not so with the Fiskars. I am a strong healthy guy and I can cut through anything I can get into the jaws. This includes branches dead or alive up to 2 inches. I have been using my Fiskars for the last three years for cutting ski and hiking trails in Maine and they continue to perform better than anything I've ever used in the past. Another benefit are the bright orange handle ends. I used to tie surveyors flagging to my tools so I wouldn't loose them if I put them down in heavy brush. The Fiskars handles are always visable and easy to find inspite of my absentmindedness. The price at Amazon is the best I've seen by $10-20. Having used this tool hard for the last three summers, I don't think I will ever have to get another pair of loppers again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Superb, May 11, 2005

I don't write that many reviews, but this product is worth raving about.

For years now I've been using various cutting tools for handling the wild area behind my house. Every piece of every tree I cut down either winds up going through the chipper or becomes firewood. So in building the arsenal to do all that efficiently, having a good pair of loppers is essential. This model is nothing less than superb. The chief features to me are:

1. Most importantly, the outer tips of the blades are beveled, thereby preventing them from ever overlapping as the cut is being made so as to prevent them from destroying themselves via chipping the edges. My old cutters failed to have this feature, and I had to constantly watch each and every cut, and I *still* had chipped blades due to this overlapping.

2. Very light.

3. Very strong. The aluminum handles are shaped so as to use the minimum material while maximizing strength along the plane where the force is exherted. My last loppers seemed pretty beefy, but I eventually broke one of the fiberglass handles in half, so metal handles are a must in my book.

4. Cuts like butter, and handles anything piece of wood that will fit in the jaws. The gear action is smooth and highly effective.

5. Easy to spot in the brush thanks to the orange highlights, and in general a very attractive tool.

Easy to use and a plus to all the outher reviues. Ran into a piece of barb wire last fall clearing brush for my daughter, put a nick in the cutter, broke my heart. Called fiskars got 2 new blades about $7/00 each friendly courtious service. I have been logging firewood this summer and these are about as handy as another hand. I dont know if I could break them but I have made them squeek like the log splitter

5.0 out of 5 stars best loppers ever, January 28, 2007

I own two of these loppers, and I own many other types of loppers. These, however, are hands-down the best loppers ever! Seriously! Unlike the compound loppers which are stiff, these are very easy to use, and they cut better than any compound loppers I've ever used. They are easily filed to resharpen the blade, and last much, much longer than any other pair I've used. Yes, they're expensive, but they're worth every penny!

While these do cut well, the movement of the gears means that the handles have to be moved through a wide arc to actuate the blade. This makes their reach shorter because you have to spread your arms wide. So in thick brush or in a tree with tight branches it can be nearly impossible to make a cut. The other drawback is the thick gears make the head quite heavy so the tool doesn't feel as well balanced as the non-geared units. Build quality is typical Fiskars, which is to say quite good, but I came close to returning due to the drawbacks I mentioned. If you have the upper body strength and cut in dense vegetation I would opt for the traditional simple scissors type of loppers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my loppers!, May 16, 2004

There are some purchases I've made over the years that delight me, or elicit a prayer of gratitude every time I use them. Our dishwasher comes to mind. My little Polartec hat from Land's End. My cordless drill. My Fiskars PowerGear Pro Bypass Loppers.

I've worked with many different brands of loppers, both puttering around our home and cutting brush for the park department. These are much sturdier and cut more easily than any other loppers I've used, including a very respectable model by Sandvik.

One little quibble I have is the lack of a remote control switch. ;o)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Loppers But..., May 6, 2009

...ever try to find a replacement blade? You won't find one anywhere but from Fiskar's Customer Service (1.800.500.4849). Fiskar does not make the replacement blades available to their vendors. Bizarre. First replacement blade is free. Additional blades are $7.99 + S&H. Blade order number for the 32" Lopper is 7100-7369. Customer service at Fiskar is wonderful. I just think it stinks that this is the only way to get a replacement blade.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Tool for a Fair Price, May 6, 2007
By
Chanyata (Cincinnati, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fiskars 9154 PowerGear 32-Inch Bypass Lopper (Lawn & Patio)
I've used the Fiskars Bypass Loppeer for about six weeks. It has met my expectations for easily and cleanly cutting honeysuckle, which is the main reason I purchased it. Honeysuckle is tough & fibrous, but on branches 1 1/2" or less it does a great job. On softer material it can cut 2 to 2 1/2". The tool is lightweight and easy to tote to the woods. The gear system requires less strength from the user. With any bypass lopper, it's important to not twist or torque the lopper while trying to make the cut. The blade comes with a sharp edge that can easily be maintained with occasional hand sharpening. I ordered an extra blade from the company just to have on hand. It was about $11, incl. shipping.

An excellent product. Lightweight but powerful, they are sharp and easy to use. They are much better than the comparably priced Corona loppers from Lowes that I tried and returned
