I bought this pruner and used it occasionally for about a year, with excellent results. However, the blade on the pruner snapped off and I have been trying to find a replacement with no luck. I have seen comments online that the only thing wrong with this pruner is the unavailability of replacement parts. Buyers should beware that if the bade breaks, you just lost about $100!

I've had this Fiskars Pruning Stik for 3 years and I absolutely love it. It has great extension and is a terrific tool for maintenance pruning (1" dia. or less). For the larger limbs, I attach the Fiskars saw blade which works like a traditional pole saw.

Here's what is different/outstanding about the pruner:

* The head rotates and lets you angle your cut perfectly, and cut close to the bark so that the cut heals quickly
* The leverage on the cutting head lets you cut 1" thick branches with relative ease
* The nylon cord is internal to the pole, so you use the slide handle to cut and there are no lines to get tangled
* The end of the nylon cord goes all the way to the endcap, so you can pull on the endcap to cut when the pole is fully extended
* As a rule, bypass pruners are better than saws or anvil pruners as they're less damaging to the tree

For higher/larger limbs, I'm about to invest in a Silky Hayauchi pole saw. For short reach, I use a Silky Ginza hand saw or an ARS 2'-4' extendable saw.

2013 Update - This is still my 'go-to' pruner time and again. It has held up well for 5 years with just cleaning, lubrication and occassional sharpening. I'd buy it again.

The Fiskars Telescoping Pruning Stik has made my yard work so much easier. I finally do not have to dance around doing a balancing act to trim tree limbs. I highly recommend it to anyone that has to do tree pruning on a fairly frequent basis.

I bought the Pruning Stik because of its rotating head. When reaching up into a tree or shrub with my old pruner the cutter was usually almost parallel with the branch I wanted to cut. A clean cut was almost impossible. With the Fiskars adjustable rotating head you can make a clean cut exactly where you want it. The overall design of the tool is very good. There is no trailing rope to trip over or get tangled in brush. The telescoping handle allows you to keep the tool at a comfortable length for where you want to cut. I don't have to pull as hard to cut as I did with my old pruner and a big bonus, no slivers from a wooden handle.

See my review for the non-telescoping little brother of this unit. I own them both. They are both the best you can do for pruning jobs. I am a working Certified Arborist, ISA. Buy this unit. You won't be sorry.
