I have owned one of these for over 10 years. Have been very pleased with the edge it puts on my sewing and utility scissors. Recently I carefully pushed/pulled the little sharpening dowel out with a pair of needle-nose pliers (Just gently wiggle it through the end and then grasp it and pull free). Cleaned it up with a little scrubbing using a powdered cleanser til it was white again. It restored the sharpening ability beautifully! They make great gifts for the beginning sewer or crafter or homeowner you might know. Good little holiday presents!

I've had this sharpener for years now, mostly to sharpen my sewing shears, but I have used them for regular paper-cutting, kitchen and nail scissors and they do a great job. It can be a little hard to get the scissors lined up right, but that might just be me.

I bought this little gadget and then didn't open the package for months. It just didn't look like it could possibly make much impact. It did a great job sharpening my scissors. It saved my old utility scissors from the trash can. They are as good as new. And I no longer have "junk" scissors for use on plastic and "good" scissors for use on paper only! This little thing can make them all like new. It may not perform like the more expensive sharpeners, but it does a great job and the price is right.

Way smaller than other sharpeners found in stores - this doesn't sit on your desk, but in the drawer. It may not get your scissors as sharp as a professional sharpening (don't know, never had a professional one), but for the price and the size it works just fine.

I had one for years and recently lost it. I've been looking forever to find one in the local craft stores and finally found one on Amazon. I ordered several, giving away the extras to friends.

I do wish that it had a hole so I could attach it to a key ring therefore making it a bit harder to lose.

I had gotten one of these sharpeners years ago with a scissors purchase. It is easy to use and sharpens quickly. It also takes up little space, so fits easily in a drawer or sewing kit. I was thrilled to find this at Amazon and be able to replace my original, which had gotten lost. This one works as great as the first.

If you need ultra-sharp scissors, this little gadget is for you. It will return the edge to near new condition with only a few strokes. It is very small and very easy to fit into any kind of sewing or took kit. We have given many away as gifts after using one ourselves. I am not sure how long it will last (as in month or years, not day or weeks) but it does seem reasonably durable.

This is a GREAT edger for Fiskar scissors. This product will work for everyone, however, not for every pair of scissors. Some scissors may be too far gone, and, I suspect, that's why there are some poor reviews.

Basically, there are two steps to truly sharpening a pair of scissors -- creating the edge, and truing the edge. As you cut with a sharp blade (scissors, or knife) the edge becomes microscopically bent over into a curl. So, eventually your need to "true" the edge, or make it flat and straight again. That's what this tool does. Similarly, using a sharpening steel does this for a knife.

The edge can be trued many, many times, before you actually need to grind an entirely new edge. But eventually, if the edge is too degraded (nicks, or just too blunt), the only solution is to grind an entirely new edge. But this tool, or any of the other Fiskar edgers, will keep well-used Fiskar scissors or snips in good shape for years! I use my scissors daily, and I have pairs that are six or seven years old!

These suprised me, they actually work. The sharpness doesn't last long but these are good in a pinch. A handy, convenient, cheap gadget to keep in the junk drawer!

Many years ago I bought one so I knew how well it worked. When mime couldn't be found I went looking for a new one. So glad they are still making them. It keeps my little scissors sharp it is small but mighty.

These sharpeners are good for your small scissors. For regular scissors that are not too thick, I sharpen the blades sequentially using the upper split side opening. They work. These are good to begin with. I'll look for something for my bigger scissors. Good to give others to introduce them to scissors sharpening.
