Cuts perfect circles,
This review is from: Circle Cutter (Electronics)
This cutter is best used with the circle cutter guide and a mat. The guide would help position the circle cut around the image and help the user choose the correct size. The mat is essential to not ruin the surface you are working on.
This circle cutter is great for making perfect circles. Sometimes, I need to be careful to make sure the blade cuts all the way around, and also that I am apply appropriate pressure on the center so that the paper and the cutter don't move off center. I feel sometimes it is a bit cumbersome and that some other circle cutters would be easier to use, but it does its job and I get the circles I want. I do like that the circles can be adjusted to an infinite number of sizes between 1 and 8 inches across. This a nice buy. Just make sure to buy a mat and you may need the circle guide. UPDATE: One commenter has made a good point that I should detail what products I refer to. The circle guide you'd need is Fiskars Circle Cutter Guide, and any self healing mat woud do but one example is Self Healing Green Cutting Mat 24 x 36 inches. They will help you make full use of the Fiskars Circle Cutter.

Very useful device. I haven't tried any other brands, so I don't know if any others are better. It takes a bit to figure out how to use this consistently well, but now that I have, I am glad to have purchased it. Be careful you've got something hard under the paper your cutting so that you don't cut into your table surface and for contrast with the paper to make a cleaner cut. Also be aware that the blades are stored in the clear cylinders topped by the blue plastic dots, otherwise you won't be able to figure out how to use this.
It does make circles of various sizes, the smallest is bigger than a hole puncher, and the largest is about six-seven inches. You can tighten it so it will remain consistent over several cuts if you want that.

THIN IS IN,
This review is from: Circle Cutter (Electronics)
THIS CIRCLE CUTTER WORKS ONLY ON VERY THIN STOCK AND IS VERY HARD TO ADJUST TO A SPECIFIC SIZE AS THE DIAL IS ON THE INSIDE. OTHER THAN THAT IT DOES A GOOD JOB WITH A CLEAN CUT EDGE.

Best Circle Cutter I have found,

This is the first circle cutter I ever bought, and after getting the Martha Stewart circle cutter, this is still the circle cutter I use. (You can read the review of the Martha Stewart circle cutter for more info).
I like this cutter because you hold it in the middle of the tool, which is also a pretty good place to hold down the thing you are cutting. This eliminates the need for any type of adhesive on your paper. It does take a some pressure to keep the paper from spinning as you spin the cutting arm around so taping your paper down might be helpful for some people who have trouble pressing down on it. I have no problem cutting without adhesive. The foot you press down has a foam gripper too, so it doesn't leave a mark on the paper. This cutter will cut circles as small as 1 inch and as large as 8 inches and everything in between. The markings on the ruler can be hard to see because they are clear, but that can be easily remedied by taking a sharpie and marking on top of them with them all with black. The arm is easy to adjust, the blades are easy to change out and there is a place on the cutter to store extra blades which is nice since they are so small. Unlike reviews I have read on other cutters...The best part about this cutter is it comes with a clear template guide so you can lay it on the paper or picture you are cutting and position the circle in the exact spot you want. The template is marked in 1/2 inch increments. It is also marked so you know exactly where to position your cutter (and the clear base of the cutter makes this very easy) You just place the cutter in the right spot and slide out the template and your ready to go. You do not need a special glass matt, it will work on a regular self healing matt. I purchased it in a set with the oval cutter and it came with a small cutting matt as well. It may take a little practice to get the feel for spinning the cutting arm around but once you get it it is an easy tool to use. Practice a little on some scrap paper before taking it to your priceless pictures.

Not Fiskars best product,

I wanted this item to cut shrink plastic with. It barely works with a lot of effort. It seems to work fine on a light weight paper, but this product will not stand up to heavier uses.

A little tricky,
By
This review is from: Circle Cutter (Electronics)
The cutter works great, it leaves clean lines and perfect circles, but its definitively a challenge to cut a circle around an already printed circle or to centralize a picture. It does take practice to get it, and it may result in wasting a lot of paper, so its better to practice for a while before cutting an important picture or piece of paper. Tip: cut over a glass surface, and tape the paper to the glass so you have a stable surface to cut.

I had been looking for a tool or tools to cut circles for my card making and scrapbooking. I looked into other hand-held punches that punch only one size of circle. I would have to have purchased 3 or more punches in the available sizes to get the versatility I wanted. I was worried about this product due to the concerns in other reviews about the quality of the cuts and the visibility of the measurement marker, but I have just tried it out and it works great! I was very impressed at how it easy it was and that this one product does the job of many! I haven't used it on cardstock yet, but I will try it soon. I also like how there is a place to store the blades when the cutter is not in use. It makes it easy to keep track of the extra blade when it comes time to replace the old blade. I agree with other reviewers that it is best to try the cutter out on some scratch paper first to get a feel for how it cuts.
One modification I made was to use a black permanent fine-tipped marker and colored in the little clear measurement marker so it's easier to see exactly where the marker is pointing to. It would have been nice if Fiskars had done that as well as blackened all of the graduated measurements(like they did with the numbers) so that picking a precise measurement were easier. That is nitpicking, and it is fine without it. Great tool!

I love my little circle cutter,
This review is from: Circle Cutter (Electronics)
I love my circle cutter. Before purchasing it I looked at the other reviews and I was a little nervous purchasing it, but I found it really cheap ($7) and couldn't pass up the offer. When I got home and began to cut circles (back in October) I found it to be really easy and fun to use. The only thing I would change about this particular circle cutter is that the spare blades fall out of the designated area for spare blades when storing it, or not being used. Other than that this circle cutter is on point with its cuts and I've yet to have a problem

Not the best,
This review is from: Circle Cutter (Electronics)
I purchased this tool for cutting circles. I found it very difficult to use. As stated in another review, it did not work well with thick cardstock paper but with thin paper. You have to apply pressure to hold it in place (my wrist was sore after using this product). I will be returning this tool for a refund.

I'm a graphic designer and bought this to use for small projects both professional and personal. Also I have created stickers before and got them made through sticker companies online and haven't been pleased by the look and how much I paid to get them made; so I figured I could just do it myself
So I bought this item along with an Xyron 150 X Create-a-Sticker. Since the Sticker maker only goes up to 1.5-inches wide I could only make stickers around that size. The directions on the box were a little confusing for me even with the little pictures and I admit I still don't have the hang of measuring on this thing. But when I got to the smaller size circles I wanted, I found it kind of hard to press down on the orange button and for the cutter to even cut. I'm guessing because of the blade being closer to the Gripper foot piece. I like it though. Great for big and medium circles. It makes clean edges and that's always good. If your making smaller circles don't press hard on the orange knob and go around twice just to make sure. |
