I really like these pruners. They let you get the cutting head into the plant without jamming your hand into the plant too. Great for "torny" plants like roses, but also great for general pruning. They make it a lot easier to see what you are cutting too.

They are pretty solid... plastic for the most part with metal cutting heads and hardware. The cutting heads seem very sharp. At the end of the handle there is a safety lever to keep the cutting head closed.

(Update 2006/11: These are my favorite pruners of all time. I use them for just about everything. The long handle is very, very handy.)

I find this pruner useful for getting very tall shrub rose bushes pruned. You can reach quite a ways into the bush with these pruners but make sure you wear long rose gloves so you don't get scratched. Also, remember to take frequent small breaks when doing a lot of pruning so your hands don't hurt from repetitive motions.

This pruner is great! It's light as a feather. You can choose to squeeze it at the very end or any place along the tool that you find convenient. Very sharp and cuts easily. I bought it primarily to trim branches from a very thorny bush. This tool allows me to reach in without constantly impaling myself with the incredibly sharp thorns. It allows me to reach branches over my head without resorting to my pole lopper. Overall a wonderful tool and I highly recommend it.

For those of you who are tired of being stuck and cut by your rose bushes this is the greatest pruner ever. I did two complete rose gardens and was not hurt once. Enabled me to get to hard to reach areas easily. They cut quickly and sharply. My hand was not fatigued despite having carpal tunnel. Bought another pair as a gift for family. I highly recommend this item.

I didn't mean to buy these, but they came in a bundled set a few years ago at Costco and I thought it would end up collecting dust. I thought it was interesting, but hardly something I would bother purchasing separately. Little did I know that it would end up as my favorite garden cutter. As the reviewers have mentioned, it allows you to reach into shrubs and trees to reach difficult branches. The narrow profile and small cutting head allows you to get up to the joint of a branch to make a clean cut from a safe distance (Roses, Barberry, Spireas, etc.). It also extends your reach when cutting branches in lower growing fruit trees. The handle is almost entirely plastic, but it's light and rugged with a claps that keeps it shut when not in use.

My only gripe is the nature of the collapsing handle which pinches when cutting through thicker branches. You may want to wear gloves while using these, but otherwise it's not a major issue and I don't find it to be bothersome.

These trimmers are far and away, the very best trimmers I have ever used. If you have to do any trimming through a chain link fence, these are invaluable. They are so useful, I have worn out one pair. I ordered a second pair, and would like another pair. Now, I find they are no longer available. WHY?
I also have two pairs of the shorter version,but the longer version is so much more useful.

The price I paid for this tool was unbelievable. This tool was perfect to get into the hard to reach places. I only wish I had ordered an extra. It really saved my back.

These pruners are really helpful cutting roses. No scratches or cuts from thorns and easy to handle.

These are great! Cut through thick branches with one hand easily. I have a bad wrist and I can use these with very little effort and no pain to me. I carry them with me on my four wheeler and can reach and cut briars before they get me. Love them!

Been using this to cut flowers down at the bed, up on the tree, even do little trimming with it, very handy, only hope if the prunning part is of brighter color, so I can get things pick out easily.
