These shears feature;
* A quick-release thumb lock that is easy to operate, even with gloves on.
* The blades are durable stainless steel.
* The handles are spring loaded so they automatically open up when the thumb lock is released.
* The handles are contoured for comfort and control when cutting.
I love these shears so much I just purchased another set. They are ideal to cut open those plastic clam shell packages that everything comes in today from the store. These things are so much more powerful and cut so much better than scissors that is is not even a fair comparison. You will like these as a handy set of all round cutting shears. They are great for cardboard, packing materials, cable ties and many other household projects.
I bought these as we had an old pair in the kitchen drawer we use all the time for clam shells and blister packs, but they've seen better days. Really like the design and function of this model.
UPDATE: As I already have these Made in China snips, I decided to check out the Fiskars knockoffs at Harbor Freight. The 97042 Multi-purpose scissors are almost identical, but have better grips and actually a better lock. The lock on the Fiskars is a rocker button located on the top of the handle (the handles are designed to force your grip to have the lock at the top for your thumb). The problem with the lock on this model and several of the other models Fiskars makes is thin material and cardboard jam into the lock as you cut deeper into the material. The Harbor Freight model avoids this by placing the lock on the side of the bottom handle while still allowing your thumb to engage or disengage it. Their handles provide traction via a softer ribbed plastic grip area and also allow for a reversible grip. The blades have a notch for string, cord, or light gauge wire. Time will tell if the "stainless" steel will hold up. There is also a larger model.
FYI, I ruined my first pair by trying to cut some thin metal rods with them--not a good idea. I somehow lost (accidentally buried in the garden?) my second pair, so I immediately ordered another set.
I like these shears so much that I'm going to order another spare pair in case Fiskars shops making them in the future!

Great snippers, not quite tin snips, but gets through the tough plastic on packaging.Published 5 months ago by Celtic Gardens
First time I used these I tried opening a standard clam shell package. The blades warped so that they wouldn't close completely. Used pliers to move them back in place. Read morePublished 5 months ago by Amazon Customer
