I guess i'll look on ebay for a blade for my old one, or just go with a different brand. R. Graham  |  4 reviewers made a similar statement

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product -- Only One Complaint July 2, 2008
Length: 4:23 Mins
This video contains a demonstration of the Fiskars portable paper trimmer, along with my review. I consider this product an excellent tool for scrapbooking or paper crafting. It is easy to use, never wears out, lightweight enough to carry to scraps and works like a charm. My only complaint is that the numbers along the vertical scale are difficult to read. For this reason, I give four stars instead of five.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well, it cuts paper in a straight line September 1, 2008

I have been using this for several months and it has been cutting straight lines, which is what I got it for. But I do have some complaints. The markings aren't quite accurate on the one I got. There are two grids, one on each side of the cutter and one is right on and the other is off a little. This wouldn't be a problem but I can't always see the accurate one due to the paper covering it.

Another problem is that that you have to guess exactly where the blade will cut. There is just a trough where the blade cuts but it doesn't give you a precise spot so you have to learn with experience to get it about right.

Another skill you must master, since the gridlines aren't very helpful, is to try to press it against the shallow plastic guides at the top edge, which are, thankfully, precise, but they only stick up a small fraction of an inch so you have to develop the talent of pressing the paper firmly against them (with some finger pressure from above) but gently so the paper doesn't jump over the guides.

(Not important, but I think the color is ugly. Sure I could see that in the photo, but it is the only compact one I could find that would cut a full 11" sheet.)

Bottom line, if you need a compact paper cutter for full size sheets and don't mind some training time at the beginning, this will do it for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great design but poor manufacturing July 15, 2008
I saw and used a similar model of Fliskar trimmer at my son's apartment, and bought myself this model. Upon my first use, I found the paper stuck a little to the trimmer because of some glue seeping out from underneath the pasted-on (!) ruler grid. I had to clean it up with alcohol, which unfortunately also removed a little yellow color from the grid pattern. The grid is made of thick paper, not aluminum as stated in the Product Description! Amazon should correct this (if they are reading this).

A problem popped up after a couple of days' use. The orange plastic swinging arm the extends the width measurement, upon swinging out, tore up the pasted-on horizontal paper ruler! I fixed this by unscrewing the arm assembly (which has a washer, the only thing in this trimmer that is [probably] made of aluminum) and gluing the paper ruler back into place with a super strong glue. I hope that it works.

After all these, I became very upset and wonder who manufacture this. I turned it over and looked. It does not say who made it, but just said 'Made in China'.

I would return this produce. However, I have taken it abroad. So I just make do.

1.0 out of 5 stars ruined my pictures September 28, 2009
I've never written a product review before, but I am SO disappointed in this cutter. The underneath part rubs just right on the little plastic cutter to create ridges in the plastic right next to the blade, which then scratches the surface of the images I'm trying to cut. Besides that, it creates a ragged edge. Looks like a really old blade is cutting, but the product is new, and i used two brand new blades that both did the same thing. I'm very, very frustrated. I threw away the receipt too because I had an old Fiskars cutter that i used ALL the time and loved, I bought the new one simply because I couldn't find replacement blades for the old one.

It's VERY possible that I just got one of the few poorly made ones, but it's not worth buying a new one to risk the same thing happening. I guess i'll look on ebay for a blade for my old one, or just go with a different brand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seems cheaply made. January 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this to replace my purple model that I LOVED but the measurements wore off so I needed to replace it. The picture was misleading as I thought this looked to have a plastic coating over the measurements, but no, it is the same metal/silver topping as my old one. It is also very unstable and the sides bend down when you are cutting with it. I geuss I will just go back to useing my purple one since it is an AWESOME cutter, I just can't see the number or the lines close to the ends anymore.

4.0 out of 5 stars MomOf3Girls February 17, 2009
This trimmer works petty well. The price was comparable to what you'd find in the stores. Just be careful to protect the blade if you take it out. It will not give a clean cut if not stored properly. It's got easy to read measurements and the swing out arm is very helpful. The blades are very easy to replace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product... November 7, 2010

This paper cutter is awesome if you want it for a single paper (project) then this is your best choice. Although the line guides could have been a little darker or not so transparent. It's kind of difficult to line up a line along the blade channel as it's clear or transparent. It does what it's supposed to do. Be careful with the scoring blade. It may be small but can cut very easily so don't run your thumb over it to see if it's sharp or not. This is great for cutting multiple photos from a sheet of photo paper too.
