Product Description

Winner of the Arthritis Foundation Ease-of-Use Commendation, Fiskars Easy Action Scissors are the perfect choice for people with arthritis or limited hand strength. A spring-action design opens the blades after each cut, greatly reducing the effort needed for this basic motion. High-grade, stainless-steel blades feature a precision-ground edge that stays sharp longer and cuts all the way to the tip — essential for anyone who cuts fabric. Additionally, the blades include a titanium coating that is three times harder than steel to provide superior durability and lasting value. An ergonomically sculpted handle with Softgrip provides excellent cutting control and comfort, and a bent handle design keeps materials flat for precise cuts every time.

I've been doing rag quilt items for several years and I have suffered from sore hands and bruised fingers. In fact, the pain caused by snipping the edges of my handmade items caused me to stop making them for about a year and a half! Then, one day, I stumbled upon these rag quilt snip scissors and thought I was in heaven!

I got them in the mail and started using them right away and after about a foot of snipping, the spring action stopped working (they are supposed to spring open so the only work your hands have to do is close them). So I was having to force them open and then snip, force them open then snip, repeat repeat... So, I let out a sigh of frustration and my husand asked me what was wrong. I showed him that they working springing open like they were supposed to. He grabbed them from, inspected them, and then wisked them away. Well, my Mr. Fix It hubs found the solution: he put a tiny tiny dab of WD-40 at the bolt point (you have to put the dab below the bolt point on the metal part when the scissors are in an open position) and then he repeatedly opened and closed the scissors until the WD-40 worked its way into the bolt. He then used a paper towel to soak up any excess lubricant and tested the scissors out on scrap fabric and they worked like a miracle!!! So I finished the 6 other items I had waiting to be snipped and they continued to work without any problem! And even now, about a month later, and numerous projects later, they are still working like a dream! I have since had him lubricate all of my scissor bolts and now they all work better tha before!

So, give these a shot and if the bolt starts to stick, but a pin-point sized dab of WD-40 as close the bolt as possible and work it in, then use a tissue to clean up any excess, cut some scrap fabric to make sure the lubricant is all soaked up, and work away!

Oct. 2011 - I bought this to do the fringe on a flannel rag quilt. I started on the outside of the quilt, which is only 2 layers of flannel. While the blades are very sharp, the spring quit springing open after a mere 30 minutes. The only way I can use this is to push the blades open every time.

Nov. 2011 - revised review. The fact that this thing wasn't springy at all was driving me nuts, especially considering how sharp the blades still were, and I've never had trouble with Fiskars products before. I unscrewed the blades from each other, cleaned in between, (there was no fabric stuck in there, but I wanted to be sure.) I then reassembled the snippers, and still no springy-ness. I then tried slightly loosening the screw that holds the blades together, and voila! I would guess that this approach may require me to tighten or loosen the screw again over time, but at least the snippers are useful again.

This rag quilt snip is so easy on the hands for big jobs. Short blades help with accuracy. You can snip to the tip! Fine quality tool; an asset to the quilter's tool box.

I bought these a few weeks ago and have done 3 baby blankets with 6 burp cloths and they really helped. Of course, snipping that many things still leaves a sore hand but it'd be really great for a more reasonable amount of cutting at once. :-) They cut through all the layers well and don't leave my hand bruised.

I have begun making rag quilts, the most daunting task is the snipping at the end. These scissors make that task much easier. I love the way that they lock and the comfortable grip. They do start to hurt after too long, but that will happen with any scissors and a repetitive task.

I love that Fiskars has a lifetime warranty for their products. If they go dull or break I have the promise they will be replaces. That is very comforting!

I made another rag quilt recently (finished it last night) and hadn't known before this quilt about Spring Action Shears. These made a huge difference between my experience before and this quilt! I love them! I would have given them 5 stars except about half way through this quilt, I found that the shears would stick about half way open and I'd have to finish pulling them open. (I'm assuming that it is because of the kind of fabric I'm using-fleece- that it created little fibers that got into the blades.) This was very annoying. However, I put a short burst of silicone lubricant spray on them before I started up again last night and I had my wonderful shears again, They are a nice weight so they feel comfortable in the hands and when they weren't sticking they were fantastic. I also found them to be a good length on the cutting blades. They are long enough to cut with one snip but short enough that I never accidentally cut too far and clipped into the seam. I would recommend them to anyone but have some lubricating spray on hand.
