Make every swing your best with an axe designed for extreme performance.

Unlike traditional axes that can be heavy, quick to dull and easy to break, X-Series axes combine perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance.

Proudly made in Finland, the axes are designed to be simple, functional and effective, helping you get more work done in less time. This design earned the X-Series axes the international red dot "best of the best" product design award for the garden category in 2010, recognizing outstanding design quality and trendsetters. A wide range of sizes and styles makes it easy to find the X-Series axe perfect for you, whether you're chopping kindling, chopping logs, splitting logs or felling trees.

The X-Series Advantage

X-Series axes combine innovative features for chopping axes that chop 3X deeper and splitting axes that offer more one-strike splits.

More Power at Impact

All X-Series axes feature a smart design that distributes the majority of the weight to the axe head while keeping the stronger-than-steel FiberComp handle lightweight. This perfected weight distribution provides an optimal power-to-weight ratio that increases swing speed to multiply power, much like an aluminum baseball bat. X-Series axes give you more power at impact to help you get more done with every swing.

Superior Blade Design

The blades of X-Series axes are crafted with a proprietary grinding technique that provides a sharper edge for better contact and cleaner cuts. The hardened, forged steel blades also stay sharp longer than traditional axes, and a low-friction blade coating helps power through the tough logs and prevents the axe head from getting stuck. X-Series Splitting Axes also include advanced bevel convex blade geometry that adds even more power and disperses wood from the blade for cleaner, one-strike splits.

Virtually Unbreakable

X-Series axes don't just outlast other axes--they're virtually impossible to break. A shock-absorbing FiberComp handle is lightweight yet stronger than steel, so it can't be broken through overstrike. The hardened, forged steel blade won't chip or crack, and the innovative PermaHead design is over-molded so the blade can't be separated from the handle.

Product Description

Another easy-to-carry choice perfect for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, the X7 Hatchet is ideal for chopping kindling and small- to medium-sized logs. Like every X-Series Hatchet or Axe, the X7 combines perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance. This combination of features allows the blade to bite three times deeper when chopping. With more blade penetration on each swing, you can chop more wood in less time, with less effort and hand strain.

Hatchets just don't come better than this. It will take a very sharp edge and hold it all day long. It's not a splitting axe. It isn't an axe at all. What it is though is a tough as nails hatchet that will get any job done that a hatchet is meant to do. If you want a splitting axe get a Fiskars brand splitting axe. If you want a chopping axe Fiskars makes one of those that is also 5 stars. If you want to clear brush on your favorite ATV trail or you want to chop kindling for your campfire this hatchet can't be beat. Just don't expect it to be something it isn't.

I have purchased several of these axes for my family and we love them, they are extremely sharp and cut with ease, the one fault that I'm willing to put up with is that they do dent and nick the cutting edge pretty easily because the blade is so fine edged, even when nicked up they cut way better than other axes, I have never found a better cutting edge than these

I was gifted an X7 for my birthday and initially wasn't sure if it would be any good. I've been a devoted Wetterlings Wildlife Hatchet fan and have also used Gransfors Bruks and didn't think that this synthetic Star Wars looking thing would hold a candle to them. Boy was I wrong! I've had this hatchet now for about 6 months and have used it to chop everything from dead pine and fir to hard rock maple and it's performed fabulously. Let me break down my experience with this hatchet....

Chopping- Not only will the X7 outchop my razor sharp Wetterlings Wildlife Hatchet, its performance approaches that of my 19.5" Wetterlings Bushcraft Axe. So many chips fly when I chop with this thing that I have to wear safety glasses, no kidding.

Splitting- This hatchet excels at splitting due to the wedged-shape head on it. This makes it a great kindling axe.

Comfort- This is what surprised me the most. The new rubberized handle is extremely comfortable, even more so than my wood handled hatchets. It also reduces shock, and since I've used it heavily over the last 6 months chopping kindling for our wood stove I can say with confidence that it is very comfortable to use for hours on end. It's also easy to choke up on for close tasks.

Durability- I called Fiskars and they told me that the steel on these is drop forged stainless with a double-hardened bit. I asked what type of steel they use but was unable to get an answer. That said, Fiskars has had some problems on their older models having soft and easily dented or chipped steel. I can't speak for other X7 owners, but the edge on mine has proven as durable as my hand forged high carbon steel Swedish hatchets. The steel also takes and holds a hair-shaving edge very good as well.

Whether you use a hatchet for going camping, firewood for the fireplace, or just to chop up smaller limbs around your house; this is great for all those jobs! It not only works but it works great. It is superb quality, (and we have really put ours to the test!) The grip feels nice, the hatchet isn't too heavy, and it has a safety cap that is easy to use.

Matt shows you how he puts this little hatchet to the test on a piece of very hard wood. Anybody can cut through the soft wood, but it takes a heavy duty hatchet to be able to cut thru the harder stuff!

Hope this video helps you!

For just over twenty dollars, this is a really good hatchet. I prefer the orange-handled Fiskars to the black-handled Gerber, although they're made by the same company, because the Gerber is made in China and the Fiskars is made in Finland.

The hatchet is 14" long and weighs 1 pound, 14 ounces. The head weighs 1 pound, 4 ounces. The handle is smooth plastic, and has proven to be very sturdy for me. The handle is completely hollow, and shining a light down there, I see that the head is retained internally with some molded plastic "bolts". The butt of the handle is flared enough that the hatchet won't go flying if it's slippery, and a lanyard hole is provided. The plastic handle is cast around the head, and while this is secure, it needs some minor modification. In all three of mine, the plastic edges (at the cutting edge side) are rough, and when chopping, small wooden splinters will wedge themselves between the plastic edges and head, eventually causing failure. To remedy this, smooth the plastic down with sandpaper (but don't thin out the thickness) and then put some epoxy at the joint.

The head isn't stainless, as it is in some of the Gerber hatchets. Instead, it's powder-coated carbon steel. The Rockwell hardness is between 45-50. The edge is 2-3/4" long. Mine came relatively sharp, but a few minutes with a file will give a much better edge. The grind isn't convex, but flat. The cheeks retain their tapering grind all the way to the grind line, kind of like a Scandi grind. This isn't a hatchet to put a razor-sharp edge on. You can, sure, but due to the softness of the steel, it will lose the edge quickly. The head on my hatchets haven't loosened, which was a concern of mine. The butt is also exposed, allowing you to use it as a hammer or tent stake driver.

In all, I'm pleased with this hatchet. Great performance for twenty bucks.
