5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for those thinking of marriage
Both my fiance and I read this book before we were engaged. The book gives a very realistic view of marriage and the issues every couple will face at some point in their relationship together. Reading the book prompted some very good necesary conversation and reaffirmed that we were "Fit to be Tied"!

This is an awesome book. It covers all the bases. It suggests a lot of issues to talk over with your spouse-to-be. It really helped my husband and I to not find any surprises when we were married. We felt like we knew what to expect, because of all the discussions we had prior to marriage, especially those that came as a result of this book. I would highly recommend it! It's great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong at 40%, October 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Fit to Be Tied (Paperback)
I just finished this book, following several other marriage books, in an effort to prepare myself for marriage. (The Hybels at one point discuss the "languages of love" and I must recommend that couples read "The Five Love of Languages," by Gary Chapman.)

I will be getting married early next year and I plan on staying married until death parts me from my husband. This book helped me add to the critical foundation that is needed in order to MAKE a progressive, joyful and fruitful marriage. I finished this book feeling one step ahead of the game and confident knowing some of the things I can expect after we walk down the aisle.

God used Bill and Lynn's marriage as an example for me (and my future husband) to learn from as well as follow. I am thankful that I have been given an willing heart in order to take advantage of such resources. I would encourage others to do the same. Marriage is too valuable to take lightly and based on the 60% divorce rate that exists in our nation today, we need all the wisdom and guidance we can get!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for those who are considering marriage, January 6, 1998
By A Customer
Bill and Lynne Hybels have taken years of experience in premarital counselling and combined it with honest real-life situations from their own marriage to produce an excellent resource for persons considering marriage. They cover personality issues, potential flash points, common pitfalls and anectdotes from their lives to bring this book to life. A very good read.

This book evokes a stern sense of cataclysmic reality in dealing with two opposites attracting. Be careful, just because your attracted sexually doesn't mean it will last. Bill and his wife give a typical, but volatile picture of their own dating experiences. While dating, I read this book with my girl friend of over 2 years, I started to realize that problems might arise later in our relationship, and they did. This book will help you cut the perverbial attachments that could ruin your life forever. Read this book, keep it for a reference guide, give it to dating couples who are serious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless: A must read for all who are "In Love", February 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fit to Be Tied (Paperback)
Bill and Lynn Hybels have taken their true life experiences and incorporated them into a guide that all married couples should have. It points out inconsistencies and areas of potential trouble, helping to avoid cataclysmic confrontations and future divorce. At the same time they show how to maintain and enhance the relationship between husband and wife making marriage a joy and a blessing instead of a heavy burden. For many people this book could save thier marriage. Being Christ centered yet very practical it is a must for young christian men and women yet it is also written within easy understanding of those who have not yet found Christ. I recommend it as excellent reading to all. It will change the way you see the one you "Love".

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good guidance, some wise words, May 25, 2000
The Hybels' wrote this book as a team trying to give an accurate picture of what to expect out of married life. I can see that this book would be super helpful to those that are considering marriage and need to discuss what to expect. I read this book as a newlywed and the first half of the book was frustrating because I just saw how I could have done things better. I don't give the book five stars because it's not excellently written, I mean it's not fine literature, but also because it is a bit frustrating in that their primary audience seems to shift from dating couples to courting couples to young marrieds. Good advice, though, and working to build a great marriage is probably more important than being bothered by writing style and target audience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, July 8, 2000
This review is from: Fit to Be Tied (Paperback)
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Bill Hybels, but this book was a disappointment. It is the chronicle of a bad marriage, of people who probably shouldn't have gotten married. The Hybels bad experience colors their advice, causing them to make blanket recommendations, such as everyone should date for at least a year before considering marriage. What people need prior to marriage is an understanding of what God intends marriage to be. This book doesn't provide that.

I'm glad the Hybels marriage is good now; but if you're looking for a pre-marriage book, check out Neil Clark Warren's _Finding the Love of Your Life_.
