After decades of reading health and fitness studies that repeatedly showed that combining aerobic exercise and strength training with challenging hobbies would promote a lifetime of body, mind fitness, I decided to write Fit Body Fit Mind: Your Practical Guide to Aging Well. 
It was important to me that the book:

  • Featured effective, step-by-step instruction that anyone could follow when they were warming up, exercising, cooling down and stretching.

I HATE going to the gym!!! Finally, a book that provides easy and clear instructions on how to get and stay fit without spending a fortune on gym memberships or equipment or spending hours punishing yourself to "feel the burn". This book has photos and simple step by step directions on how to do each exercise, along with common sense tips on maintaining a healthy weight. The focus is on overall fitness and makes it easy to incorporate in daily living. BABY BOOMERS....you will love this!

What I love about this book is that it is clear, simple, direct and thorough. As a health care practitioner this is a book that I would recommend to my patients that have finally decided to take their health into their own hands. This book covers very rudimentary topics and also explains and demonstrates very specific how-tos of what to eat, what to wear, which exercises to choose and how to do them properly - so that the reader has no reason to delay. This book is great for beginners yet definitely has great advice and reminders for those of us who already workout.

Absolutely easy to read life plan for healthy living using lots of common sense, good diet and exercise guidance. I've been working out for 10 years and still found helpful advise to improve my lifestyle in my 77th year of existence. Highly recommend to everyone at any age.

Finally, a no nonsense book on mind and body fitness! What I love most about this read is the interactive nature with the companion website Xeniors.com. What a helpful and well conceived website! For instance, in the section of the book about aerobics, I learned the connection between good balance and being independent. More info was at Xseniors.com, where I typed in 'aerobic' to the search engine. Here I learned recent information from The Center for Brain Health regarding the benefits of aerobic exercise. Want delicious recipes? Type in 'recipe' and enjoy!

In addition to Xseniors.com, the book has other links to helpful sites. Lawrence suggests writing and blogging as excellent brain exercises. He then links us to Wordpress.com and helps us set-up an easy Blog! We all have something interesting to share. Follow his advice and be around for your family in sound body and mind for years to come.

Lawrence S. Richardson, Jr., is an International Sports Sciences Association certified Senior Fitness Specialist. Richardson graduated with honors from the University of Southern California, where he double-majored in broadcast journalism and history.

A fitness enthusiast for over 30 years, Richardson drew on his experience as a journalist, columnist, and public relations, public affairs, and marketing executive to write "Fit Body Fit Mind: Your Practical Guide to Aging Well" and design this book and to create its companion website, Xeniors.com.

Richardson is also co-writer of the movie "Christmas Lodge."
