Saved my body image, April 7, 2000
This first of Covert Bailey's "Fit or Fat" series, the 1978 publication, saved my life literally when I was a sophomore in college and had gained much weight and, although I had been a fairly active person, hadn't been exercising. Covert's 12-minute approach to aerobic exercising -- which doesn't mean just dance, it means anything that keeps your heartrate up to a certain level for a certain amount of time -- made me realize I didn't have to "waste" precious time to get in shape. But most of all, I DIDN'T HAVE TO DIET! He explains the importance of light weight lifting and to basically give yourself a break and accept that none of us are going to have a perfect body. He also turned me on to jump-roping as a cardiovascular exercise, and I still love it. Anyone concerned with health ought to check out Covert Bailey!

The Gold Standard, October 5, 2011
The first edition (only) of "Fit or Fat" remains the gold standard of weight loss texts - even in 2011.
The text is concise, scientifically exact, and a very enjoyable read to boot. The basic formula is: "How to turn your body from storing fat to burning fat for energy". The presentation is brilliantly simple, complete and is easy to read - even by pre-teens.
Best of all, the recommended solution requires only a minimal amount of energy and very little in the way sacrifice. The only requirement is diligent application and a very reasonable amount of energy and willpower.
Simply put, "Fit or Fat" cuts out all the fluff and cuts right down to the essential core issue and makes it as effortless as is possible to actually do it.
Over the last 4 decades I have recommended this book to countless friends and acquaintances. Each and every one of them has thanked me for the recommendation.
In fact, the reason that I decided to write this review is that I am in the process of ordering a copy for a friend as a gift.
Good luck with your own quest.
