I was excited by all the reviews that said this book was for "athletes" and had a lot of information on how to continue exercising and strength training exercises you could do. I read through the first trimester chapter and came out knowing nothing more than when I went in.

I am a fitness enthusiast, I used to do a lot of weight lifting, in the past two years I had given a lot of that up and have instead been running half marathons. I was hoping the book would have better advice for me than "go ahead and exercise.... but don't overdo it.... and don't feel bad if you don't want to exercise at all". What to Expect When You're Expecting told me that! I was looking for something a bit more in depth and specific! There were maybe 4 exercises for first trimester moms-to-be, all involving resistance bands, which seems to indicate that they're for beginners who've never actually lifted free weights. I have a gym membership-- I'd like to know if I can still lift weights, and if there are positions that I should be avoiding or things I should be doing more of. I'm pretty sure I should be working to strengthen my core for pushing out a baby (my core is noticeably weak from focusing on training for the half marathons and not lifting weights at the same time).

The advice it gave was vague and unsatisfactory, and useless at putting my mind at ease. And if you've already had a miscarriage, all bets are off. The book basically absolves itself from giving you any solid advice, and tells you to go ask your OBGYN. My miscarriage was not caused by my exercise habits, but I am, understandably, a little paranoid this time around.

Not the book for me, maybe not the book for other experienced exercisers, either!

My wife says: The title, Fit & Healthy Pregnancy made me believe this was a book just about staying healthy during my pregnancy and after. It covered much more, but I don't believe I was the authors original target market. In the introduction, the author states the book is, "designed for veteran and recreational athletes as well as general fitness enthusiasts."

I am none of those. I am not an athletic person. Most of my exercise comes from walking the dog, playing with the kids, or from shopping. Portions of this book, dealing with topics for serious athletes did not apply to me. The good thing was this book covered much more than just athletics. It was almost more of a maternity book. Now being that I have read a few other maternity books, a lot of this information I already knew or had read.

This book is not what I would consider an exercise book. It is more of a companion guide for an already athletic women who has her workout routine. What I found useful were a lot of the stretches they described and showed in drawings. If I was truly more of an athletic person, this book would have been great. It probably would have addressed some of the concerns I'm sure I would have felt about serious training and exercise while pregnant. Besides that, since this book covers a lot, money could probably be saved not buying multiple maternity books.

If you are not an athletic person and you already own multiple maternity books, this book may not benefit you. But if you have concerns regarding working out while pregnant or soon after delivering, I'd recommend it.

One of the most crucial things for a pregnant mother is to be healthy. Most, however, do not know what that entails. A plethora of books and articles have been written on the subject, all with contradictory, often controversial, statements about what it means to be healthy and how a mother can get in shape without hurting the baby.

This book provides a nice, comprehensive guide that would be a good starter for any expecting mother. I particularly liked that this book was non-judgemental (so many other books are). Everyone needs to make the decisions that pertain to them, and do they best they can for their offspring.

I liked that it addressed fitness according to trimesters. It gave me a better understanding of what my body is going through (fitness wise) as my pregnancy progresses. This book does not include many actual exercises to perform. I was hoping for a wide variety of actual fitness routines or exercises I could apply to various areas of my body that are pregnancy friendly.

This book is very handy for medical and fitness information that you cannot find on the internet. It answers many questions that you forget to ask your doctor also. It gives various guidelines and suggested exercises. for each trimester. I like that the author has medical background and personal experience.

I wish this book had been around the first time I got pregnant! It is very comprehensive, seems medically sound, and applies to all fitness levels. I was left kind of blobby after my first pregnancy, and really want to try harder to stay in shape if I'm blessed to have a second, third, etc one! :o)

Wow. What a great resource, this book is really in depth and should be a definite help to anyone looking to stay as healthy as they can throughout their pregnancy. I especially liked how it was broken down to trimesters, and gave realistic expectations. Great read.
