5.0 out of 5 stars This is great for kids
I do not know what some of the bad reviews were all about...
But the quality was great, and my 4 1/2 year old loved it. Denise Austin changed the routine often enough to keep it interesting and the total workout for the kids was just under 1/2 hour. And then there was a workout that Denise did with a family of 5 which was quite nice too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not too good for kids
Denise Austin needs to stick with making exercise videos for adults. This video isn't kid friendly, and doesn't have a good feel for kids. To be honest, it is very close to most of Denise's exercise videos for adults. Denise Austin needs to stick with making exercise videos for adults. This video isn't kid friendly, and doesn't have a good feel for kids. To be honest, it is very close to most of Denise's exercise videos for adults. What Denise has forgotten, or may have never known, is kids are kids, and they need to be treated accordingly, and that means with exercise videos to.
A good choice for kids is - Kick to Get Fit Jr. -For Kids, this video is done by a qualified kid's fitness professional, not someone who is just throwing adult type movements at kids, and just hoping they can do them.
My kids are NOT at all happy with this program. There are 6 & 10 years old, and they were bored & turned off by this video within the first 5 minutes, mostly because they didn't understand the movements, and then found most of the other movements very hard to do. Once again, the forgotten point - Kids are kids, and they need to be treated accordingly. One last point, in the video Denise mentions that she received information from a variety of different professionals in the field of children's exercise & fitness. This is all good except they all forgot one VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL,- You MUST be able to teach & instruct children at a level they understand. Just because you know something about exercise, it doesn't mean you are able to teach it to children. Knowledge is one thing - Teaching & Instructing is another, and the fact is, some people are just not very good at instructing children. A point that is very clearly displayed within this program.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT EXERCISE DVD FOR KIDS!!, January 27, 2005

My girls loved it. There are two 20-minute workouts - one for kids and the other for family. Denise uses stretching, dance moves and aerobics. I don't think kids under five could keep up. Denise coaches through the whole workout. My kids can't wait to exercise again tomorrow. Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, February 23, 2006

I have been buying workout video's/DVD's with Denise Austin for years and have been very happy with them. However since Denise is no longer with Artisan (she is now with Lions Gate) the quality has changed. The camera man can't seem to sit still. When I buy a workout DVD, it's not because I want to look at a pertty face. Far to often the camera man is giving an up close of a face when he should be showing the whole body so we can see what we, or as in this case our child/ren, need to do. By the second workout, the camera man slowed it down making it much easier to follow. Still, it is not the quality I am used to from Denise. It could have been a great workout but instead it was a big disappointment!

3.0 out of 5 stars Has potential, but would not recommend for beginners, January 14, 2005
This review is from: Denise Austin's Fit Kids (DVD)
My 5-year-old son begged for this DVD when I bought myself a workout video. Part I is FitKids, which is a kids workout. It is difficult to follow for those not familiar with aerobics. It starts out very fast and doesn't give a lot of instruction on proper technique and form, which I think would be important for a workout video aimed towards kids. The FitFamily section is definitely not aimed at beginners. It is pretty fast paced (from a beginners point of view) and I had a hard time keeping up. My son was bored after about 15min (and I was exhausted!). More exciting music and/or more interaction from the kids in the video would have helped keep his interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Younger Children, June 30, 2006
This review is from: Denise Austin's Fit Kids (DVD)
My six year old (who has NEVER been very excited about exercise) really loves this DVD. The routine is active, fun and most importantly easy to learn. Other videos have simply left her frustrated when the routine was complicated or very little instruction was offered. She completed the workout the first day and when she woke up the next morning, she asked to do it again! My 2 1/2 year old has a great time "dancing" with us as well!

My 5-year-old daughter loves this video! She does both workouts on the video. She didn't do much exercise before, but she absolutely loves this.

It is an amazing program for kids with appropriate intensity levels. Kids won't even feel like they are exercising. It offers great workout routines that include dance moves and some kickboxing moves. It also has a program for parents to join in with their kids too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice intro to exercise for tween daughter, January 13, 2008

I am amazed at all the technological ways kids can sit for hours and hours (TV, video games, computer). I wanted my kids to start putting in some active time to off-set the sitting time. I bought this video and have been pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy doing it with my 10-year-old daughter. (I don't think this video is intended for pre-schoolers.) Some other reviews said it shows too many faces, doesn't give enough instruction time, and gets boring. It does show lots of smiling faces which I think is a good subliminal to give to children that exercise is fun. We have not had any trouble doing any of the moves in spite of seeing faces. It does not show a step by step for each new exercise. I think this is where parental involvement comes in. I did the video first and then I can help my daughter with any tricky parts (which are a couple but not many). You can always use the pause button to practice a move, get a drink, etc. I think the message we should be giving is not that we have to do things perfectly the first time, but that we are improving and having fun. I think the nature of any workout DVD is that you hear the same things over and over and do the same moves over and over. I do not think that is a flaw unique to this video, but in the whole product genre and so I didn't rate lower because of that. If you want to not get bored, you need to go to a class with a live person that changes things each time. We have not done the family routine as much, just because we enjoy the one with all the kids better. The family routine is just a bonus in my mind. I appreciate the way Denise is positive, encourages the benefits of fitness and tells what skills are being developed: endurance, coordination, flexibility, etc. And as she says, "strong bodies = stong minds."

1.0 out of 5 stars Not that great, June 27, 2006

I was disappointed with this DVD. I usually like all of Denise Austin's video workouts, so I bought this one for my little sister. She wasn't interested in it, and I can see why. Everything seems too choreographed, and then kids are fake. They don't look like "normal" kids - they're obviously dancers/actors, or something. I also bought Billy Blanks - Tae Bo Kicks for my little sister, and she loved it!! I would recommend this DVD if you're looking for something for a child.
