A Good change of pace,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fit To Serve (Audio CD)
Jim Croce follows in his father's footsteps of producing entertainment for people who appreciate talent. His blues/jazz talent on the piano make this CD a delight to listen to. His music is unlike Jim Croce (his father's) but is in a league of it's own. I would recomend this to anyone with a love for a good piano and a guy who loves to feel the entire span of the ivorys! It isn't a CD to fall to sleep with but definately one to use as a help to bang on the steering wheel as you pound pavement at balls out speed across the highway.

PLAY IT AGAIN A.J.,

His first album was very good. His second album was OK. But "Fit To Serve" is Croce's best one yet. His vocals sound stronger here, but even more important, the songs are much better. Croce can play a mean barrelhouse type piano too. He's the kind of guy you might see playing behind the chicken wire in an old roadhouse somewhere. Unlike his more folk oriented dad, Croce is a tougher, hard edged blues/r&b/soul player. This guy can both ravage your soul and touch your heart with his music. What I like most about this album is that it retains the raw energy of a live show. Good examples of this are the jumpy tunes "I Don't Mind", "I'll Get Through", "Texas Ruby" (a good one), and the very Ray Charles-like "Judgement Day". He saves his best for last on "Nobody Else". A great song with heart-tugging lyrics about the battle of kicking alcohol. This is an excellent album by an artist who obviously has a great love for his craft. I have a feeling one day everyone is going to catch on to this guys music, and he'll eventually get his "time in a bottle". He's just too talented to go unnoticed for long. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy "Fit To Serve". His best album to date, and it comes highly recommended.!

That People critique is way-off,
By A Customer

A.J., like the consensus shows, is not like his father and should not be compared in any way (unless genetically) A.J's albums are fantastic. My suggestion is to buy his first (self-titled "A.J Croce")and work through to this one (there are 3 total) Just give him a chance and you will certainly not be dissapointed. Don't go into this expecting "time in a bottle" or having an extremely narrow mind like the above mentioned People Critic. What you will get is a fresh new sound of Jazz/blues and Rock & Roll. I am very surprised that his albums have not received more attention.

I really enjoyed this CD.,

A.J. Croce delighted me with his 3rd CD. I enjoyed his first one when I first heard it at a listening station at Tower Records in Honolulu. I searched for more CD's from him and did not see anything for quite a while. Then his second CD came out and I was disappointed with a majority of the tunes. This third CD renewed my enjoyment of his music. I like how are the songs are a little different. I enjoy the blues the way he plays it and I love his gravelly sounding voice. I like the differences in presentation of the songs. One song that really gives me a kick is Texas Ruby. Anyone who enjoys New Orleans style blues will enjoy this CD.

Sick of the Ho-Hum on the radio? Buy This!,

If you take the path less travelled, this is for you. Don't expect JIM Croce, there is absolutely NO resemblance. My opinion is that AJ isn't quite the lyric writer his dad was, but writes music as well. His piano playing, vocals and style are wonderful. It's great to find really GOOD music for a change!

I have the first of his discs which I love, and this is also good, much heavier than the first one, but some good blues rock is what it is. I think his voice is very powerful, but not overly growly, and his piano playing is supergood. Definitely recommend this!Casper

This is probably the worst music I've heard in my life, and I've heard some bad stuff in almost 1/2 a century -- altho way more good - great - incredible! than bad. I'm embarrassed for his incredibly talented father.
