Instructor Lisa Stone developed this physically demanding but easy-to-follow prenatal exercise program during her own pregnancies. She begins the 57-minute tape by going over the ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) safety guidelines in detail, and then begins the 44-minute workout with a warm-up filled with familiar steps: step-touch, hamstring curls, grapevine. Stone's three 7-minute step segments are conducted with several other pregnant women in the background, including one in her ninth month who demonstrates versions of all the exercises without a step. The lower-body conditioning is done with the step or a chair, and an exercise band would be helpful. She conducts the abdominal work on the floor and includes Kegels and gluteal work, followed by cool-down stretches and relaxation. Stone's tape has a visual twist: instead of the usual sterile studio, she taped her workout in a huge room with hardwood floors and an enormous (unlit) fireplace. After the workout, the group gathers for a Q&A with an informative (if stiff and overrehearsed) ob-gyn on the benefits and limitations of exercise during pregnancy. --Kimberly Heinrichs

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!, July 25, 2001
By
Melanie McLeod (West Melbourne, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fit For 2 Step Aerobic Workout For Pregnancy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been exercising for about ten years. When I became pregnant at 35, I was concerned about my shape which fortunately had been tall and trim. Wanting to keep it that way (and also knowing labor may be easier by exercising) I was looking for a pregnancy tape. My usual workouts consisted of a variety of things: walking, low-impact aerobics, step aerobics and floor work (strength training and toning) all from video tapes I did at home. I wanted a REAL workout for my pregnancy. I scanned the Amazon.com videos and read reviews. I have Kathy Ireland, Kathy Smith and Denise Austin tapes so, I was considering one of those pregnancy tapes. It turned out that I opted for a no-name because of the description and review. Now it's my turn to review. Lisa's tape gives a 5 minute warm-up, a 20 minute step aerobic portion, a 3 minute cool-down and then conditioning which involves using an exercise tube for the arms. (She says you can use soups cans or weights if you don't have the tube.) Then you stand and do leg lifts for the inner and outer thighs. Floor work involves getting on all fours and pulling your tummy in for ab work, tightening your Kegal and buttocks and then comes a stretch segment. I am very happy with this tape. Believe it or not, the 20 minutes is enough for me and the heart rate gets up there. I feel it is a good workout that I am satisfied with it when I'm through. I tried a Denise Austin pregnancy video I picked up at a thrift store for $1.00 and that is all it's worth. It was a joke. NO EXERTION what so ever is necessary. I would only use it if I was extremely over weight and never exercised before. My heart rate didn't budge and it was about 10 minutes worth of activity. If you are a person commited to exercise buy this tape. I'm sure I will use it after my pregnancy as well. I would just do different abdominal work. I didn't give it 5 stars because the girls aren't all in rythym with the music at the same time. It's annoying, but not a reason to avoid the tape. Good Luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Want a great workout? This is it!, December 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fit For 2 Step Aerobic Workout For Pregnancy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Fit For 2 video is great if you want to stay in shape all the way through your pregnancy. I did it until the day before I had my baby! It works several different body parts, including your abs, and teaches you wonderful relaxation techniques to use when you're in labor. The music is very high energy and kept me motivated. Lisa Stone's cueing and choreography are very easy to follow - challenging and fun! I highly recommend this workout!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Keeping Me Fit!, May 13, 2000
By
This review is from: Fit For 2 Step Aerobic Workout For Pregnancy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was so worried about what kind of workout I was going to be able to do when I found out I was pregnant. I've been a "gym rat" for years and didn't want to lose my fitness level during my pregnancy. The Fit For 2 video gives me a great workout without making me worry that I'm overdoing it or hurting my baby. I work up a great sweat but don't feel totally exhausted when I'm done. I feel like my muscles are staying strong and that I'll be able to make it through labor, no problem!
