The 85 games and activities in this book will help teachers maximise fitness in their students and find activities that children will enjoy. Fitness Fun is a resource for physical education specialists who teach kindergarten to early secondary children, as well as classroom teachers, programme directors, and recreation specialists. Each field-tested activity in Fitness Fun helps students develop one or more fitness components: Cardiorespiratory fitness, Muscular Strength, Muscular endurance, Flexibility. The activities are coded with an easy-to-use system so that teachers know at a glance which fitness components are emphasised. Fitness Fun is divided into three sections: Warm-up activities - short duration to prepare for more strenuous movement, Quick activities - used for short periods, Main activities - make-up the majority of the lesson. For each activity, there is complete information that tells how to perform it, which fitness components are developed, any additional benefits, and the equipment needed. Many activities also include variations safety tips, and illustrations. There is also a unique Game Finder to help teachers select appropriate games quickly and easily. With this valuable time saver, they can locate games to match students' age, the fitness component they want to emphasise, or the specific sport skills they want students to develop.

About the Author

Emily Foster, MAT, is an elementary physical education specialist for the Portland Public Schools in Oregon. She received her master's degree in teaching physical education from Lewis and Clark College in 1981, and has been teaching and creating new activities ever since. She has also written physical education and fitness curricula for the Portland school district. Ms. Foster is a member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), the Oregon Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPERD), the National Association for Sports and Physical Education (NASPE), and the Northwest Council for Children's Expanded Physical Education (NCCEPE).

Karyn Hartinger, MS, is a physical education specialist for the Reedville School District in Aloha, Oregon. In 1982 she received her master's degree in physical education from Portland State University. Ms. Hartinger has been voted Oregon's Physical Education Teacher of the Year for the elementary level and has been a member of the Portland School District Curriculum Committee. She is a member of AAHPERD, OAHPERD, NASPE, and NCCEPE.

Katherine A. Smith, MS, is a health and physical education specialist in Presque Isle, Maine. She received her masters degree in physical education from Montana State University in 1985, and has since written curricula for health, fitness, and physical education for school districts in Maine, Colorado, Montana, and Oregon. Ms. Smith is a member of AAHPERD and NASPE.

"Fitness Fun" is full of fantastic fitness activities that are easy to read, comprehend and add to your daily physical education lessons. They are user friendly and the book is highly organized and easy to use. It is one of my main staples when planning and is chockfull of great fitness games and activities to help keep your lessons fun, active, and alive! I highly recommend this book to all elementary physical education teachers. It is also a great tool for substitutes! Enjoy!

This book is a wonderful book to use as a physical education teacher. It has lots of great ideas and games to play to teach about fitness concepts. The pictures in the book make understanding the activity simple and quick. Many of the activities are fun to play. A must for all elementary pe or classroom teachers.
