5.0 out of 5 stars Even for seasoned fitness buffs...
Eventhough my husband and I have been working out for years, after travel or illnesses it is difficult to get back into the 'religion' of working out. I saw this book and decided to give it a try. To be honest, the Madona intro didn't attract me but the photos and the easy, straightforward style did. This book motivated us to restart and re-energize our tired workout...

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick to the point !
I thought the book was kind of interesting.
Quick to the point with short descriptions
of each excercise. Also a brief section on
nutrition. I enjoyed the book so much, I
finished reading it in one afternoon.

Eventhough my husband and I have been working out for years, after travel or illnesses it is difficult to get back into the 'religion' of working out. I saw this book and decided to give it a try. To be honest, the Madona intro didn't attract me but the photos and the easy, straightforward style did. This book motivated us to restart and re-energize our tired workout regimen. We really liked the nutrition information which motivated us to eat like we are athletes...fueling ourselves for the long-haul!! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to stay fit for a lifetime!

5.0 out of 5 stars Have your sweats ready to go!, May 11, 2000
This is a really quick read, so I'll caution you to have your sweats and sneakers ready to go when you start reading so you can take right off.

The first time I read this book was at night, and I got so pumped up I wanted to go go go right then and there. The next day was so busy I couldn't do anything and so on the excuses began.

You can't get "the faith" unless you actually begin, so start right away. This book will give you a great outlook and push in the right direction. It is beautiful, and actually gives me an adrenaline rush to read it, Ray is so excited about everything, it's infectious.

There are also some training programs to start you out, and you learn great techniques for interval training etc. and some advanced techniques for things as well. This book can keep you going for awhile.

As, a vegetarian, I don't really like the nutrition section... he goes for a "caveman" diet like "the zone." I do appreciate his points that carbs *are* overeaten, especially processed ones. I'm just not sure eating lots and lots of meat is the solution.

But I digress. If you want to make fitness a big part of your life and are tired of fitness books by phony people who have never struggled with their weight or self-esteem, this book is for you.

Ray is as down to earth and warm as a Hollywood trainer can be!

5.0 out of 5 stars The HOLY BOOK on fitness!, December 21, 2000
By
Kwame Ampofo (Accra Ghana West Africa) - See all my reviews
Ray's book is simply marvelous.I became a convert by the time I was through the first two chapters! I had never dreamt that fitness could be presented in such an appealing way.I was sedentary and 115 Kg when I started reading this epistle always dreaming that one day I might come across some fad diet which will deal with my problem. The moment of conversion came when I read that I had to make that Leap of Faith,Believe in fitness to bring me health and weight loss ,then my ears popped open and I heard that inner voice saying "You ought to be a disciple" I'm so greatful to you Ray and you have no Idea what I'll give to meet you in person or get in touch with you by email, God Bless you for blessing us (middle age sedentary unbelievers) with this epistle

Like many people I finished this book in one day. Is this because there are lots of photos and charts and that the font size is big? Yes, but it is an extremely good read. I'm already well into fitnessand am about to start running classes of my own. I would recommend this book as the shove in the direction some people may need to stop 'talking about it' and 'do it' instead. Let me know if you disagree, I don't get enough mail anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's the only fitness book you need to a healthy lifestyle, November 2, 1998
By A Customer
If you want to know the principles, the fundamentals, the mindset for a healthy lifestyle, you don't need to read another book. The market is plenty of "gain washboard abs overnight" or "bigger arms in lesser time" articles and books. Ray goes beyond. He, in a light and easy way, tells you how your body works and lets yourself to be the tailor of your own fitness program. I've read thousands of junk articles I referred before, and believe me, none of them gets you to the motivation and eagerness levels towards a fit lifestyle. If you want to improve your attitude toward sports and workouts, you should read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!, June 24, 1998
By A Customer
This is such a motivating and interesting book. I picked it up because I saw it reviewed somewhere and was interested in who made Madonna the way she is. What a surprise to find such a warm and caring individual (Ray Kybartas) behind all of it. I really enjoyed how he brought the whole religious aspect into everything, it made it much easier for me to understand. I hope to run into Ray someday on the beach in Santa Monica and tell him what and influence he has been!!

This book makes you want to be in shape and stay in shape. The author has the most balanced approach to fitness, I have ever seen. His advice is based on sound principles. The writing style is enjoyable to read. It is easy to see why he is one of the most sought after trainers today.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's an O.K. book...Don't expect too much from it., October 2, 2002

This review is from: Fitness Is Religion: Keep the Faith (Hardcover)
This book was not what I expected it to be. It's a decent book in itself to read, but not to really 'use'. I did like the fact it recommended a zone type diet (i.e. eating fewer carbs than the average diet which is something i already do)..
This book basically introduces and teaches the various types of exercises e.g. jogging, yoga, strength training and has some up-lifting inspirational sections - but that's it.
Also, the fact that Madonna wrote the introduction, and that Kybartas personally trains her and other celebs did not impress me, if that was their goal. It did seem like a very 'Hollywood', 'Beverly Hills' type book which turned me off.
The bargain price I got it at is what it's worth.
