Product Description

Beets BLU with chest strap ensures a continuous heart rate measurement with no interruption to exercise. The sensor captures the slightest electrical impulses and performs the most accurate heart rate readout due to ECG-based technology.

Beets BLU is easy to use right out of the box. It starts your heart rate reading in seconds and delivers lossless data transmission to your smartphone through the energy efficient Bluetooth Smart wireless protocol.

* Compatible devices:
- Apple iPhone 5, 4S;
- Google/LG Nexus 4 (with Android 4.3 and later)
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- HTC One, HTC Droid DNA, HTC One X+ (with Android 4.1 and later);
- Other Android smartphones with Bluetooth 4.0 support and Android version 4.3 (and later).

This Bluetooth Smart based heart rate sensor is far more reliable and convenient than the older generation sensors.

The soft adjustable chest strap is very comfortable to wear. No more chafing or problems with the strap sliding down even during the most intensive workouts! The Beets BLU heart rate sensor is smaller and lighter than most other brands- you will forget about it while working out. A range of available sizes makes Beets BLU the best option for both men and women.

Bluetooth Smart is a low energy technology, which allows the heart rate monitor to run on a single battery for about a year. Your heart rate monitor is always ready for your workout, no charging required! Bluetooth low energy technology also prevents battery drain on your smartphone.

Beets BLU heart rate monitor is the perfect addition to advanced fitness trackers like RunKeeper, Digifit, Strava, Runtastic, MapMyRun and others**. These apps allow you to display heart rate, calories burned, current heart rate zone and other stats on your smartphone. You can monitor and analyze additional metrics too, depending on which app you choose to use.

Beets BLU heart rate monitor helps you to track activities with a focus on cardio training within your target heart rate zone. Any physical activity can be tailored to your age, skill level, fitness and the results you want with its help.

After a frustrating run around with Polar HR7, where it did not work with any of my apps including Polar's own app I decided to give Beets Blu a try. Running on an iPhone 5 with several apps including Digifit, my first choice, this HRM connected the first time and every time since, seven workouts. The iPhone 5 uses Bluetooth Smart (4.0), which makes it different than other versions or connections. Typically these products are simple enough and they either connect or they do not. In my combination of iPhone 5, Beets BLU and digifit it works and I couldn't be happier with it

Item arrived on Wed. Got it to pair with iPhone 5 after 15 minutes by wetting with water, spit (suggested by several web sources), and gel. It stayed connected for about 20 minutes then dropped out. Assumed that because I was not active and moisture may have dried out I didn't give it another thought.

Thursday... got it to connect after a few minutes through endmondo. Started my walk and placed iPhone in jacket pocket. When I got back from a 4 mile walk found that the heart rate data was collected for less than a minute. The weather was cool and did very little sweating so assumed it was not moist enough.

Later that evening downloaded another compatible app called Heart Rate. Eventually was able to get it to connect again with water, spit and gel. Stayed connected for about an hour and I took it off.

Friday.. could not get it to connect with either app so I changed out the battery. Connected shortly through both apps. Started my walk again using endomondo but checked after the first mile. Not connected. Spit, licked (again web sourced) and water on sensors and skin. NO joy. Checked again after second mile. Spit, licked and water; NO joy. Repeat at end of mile three; NO joy. Repeat at end of fourth mile; NO joy.

Saturday.. Would not connect after spit, water and gel. Maybe there's interference in the house so out to the middle of a ball field. Spit, water, gel; NO joy. So back home to remove the battery and put in another. Connected to endomondo and Heart Rate app after starting and stopping apps several times. Connected to Heart Rate app and started on elliptical. Dropped out after about a minute. Not sweating much so after a half hour and moderate sweating tried to connect again with spit, water and gel; NO joy.

Although the BeetsBLU literature claims the battery life is approximately one year I had burned through 9 batteries in 10 months. The manufacturer suggests removing not just the sensor from the strap after use to conserve battery power but the battery from the unit, then turning the battery over and reinserting it I guess to "reboot" the device so it stops sending an erroneous message that the battery is dead. I opened the back so many times the plastic is damaged and now it is impossible to unscrew the battery cover. BeetsBLU was initially responsive to my concerns regarding battery life and they said "others had complained about the issue." Wow! How helpful! Subsequent attempts to contact them through Facebook and Twitter in an attempt to get a replacement model under warranty have been met with silence. Time to look into another manufacturer.

I recently upgraded my phone to an iPhone5 and wanted to get a heart rate sensor to help me keep track of the intensity of bicycle as well as rowing workouts. The heart rate monitor device is recognized and paired up with the iPhone without any problems. However, just as the instructions say, it takes longer the first time it is paired. After the first time, the iPhone app syncs up immediately every time. With the exception of rest days, I have been using this device every day six days a week, without experiencing any problems at all. I have also tried with a couple of different apps also with success.

It is a bit costly, but If you like the convenience of not having to connect the ANT+ key to the phone, this device works as expected.

I am a beginner runner and was overwhelmed by the array of different HRMs (watches, chest bands etc) all with different reviews on quality. I didn't want to go too cheap, but I didn't need to blow a huge amount of cash for my starting fitness routine. When I saw this, I thought it was a great idea! I checked out competitors who have more reviews than Beets Blu but there were too many dissatisfieds for my taste.

So I took a leap of faith with Beets Blu. The owners manual was clear and easy to read. The device feels very comfortable and you tend to forget it's on you. I tested it with Pedometer Ultimate GPS+ but that App didn't support Beets Blu (as stated on the product box). I could not pair it because the App didn't recognize it-- it wanted to find a competitors Blu Tooth HRM.

I downloaded Runkeeper app, which is free and easy to use (also tracks other activities-- biking, hiking etc.). Paired my device right up. After a very brief test, I conclude it works.

I can't speak from experience of watch/chest HRMs but this device seems to use what you already have (an SmartPhone) and make it more functional.

***** FEB 2013 UPDATE **** I am returning this HRM. It stopped working about two months after I got it. Beets Blu recommended removing the battery for 10 min to 24 hours. I did and it worked again, but then dropped the signal the next time I used it. The apps on the box it claims to support was not accurate. I found RunKeeper and another free HR app, but you get what you pay for. I am returning it after two failed attempts to use it. I shouldn't have to let it "Air Out" for 24 hrs between uses. Sorry to see it go. It worked well when it worked. ********
