5.0 out of 5 stars Does Fitzwilliam Darcy Rock Your World?, September 1, 2011
This review is from: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (Paperback)
A combination of Jane Austen and the world of rock-and-roll, Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star is a high-voltage and unplugged retelling of Pride and Prejudice that is absorbing and dynamic. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Charles Bingley, and Richard Fitzwilliam make up the bad-boy rock band called Slurry. And with their tattoos, long hair, leather pants, and intensely emotional performances they are some of the hottest and most unique reincarnations of these characters I have ever encountered! The men of Slurry sign up the all-girl band Long Borne Suffering (I love that name!) to be their opening act on tour. And although the men make a pact to not date, sleep with, or fool around with any of the girls, they don't stand a chance when the sexy trio of LBS walks on the scene.

The ladies of Long Borne Suffering (Jane, Elizabeth, and Charlotte) aren't looking for any romance this summer. Opening for Slurry is their big break and quite possibly could launch their music careers. With shows practically every night, rehearsal every afternoon, meetings with their managers every morning, and sleeping on a bus in between, there really isn't any time for men in their lives...or is there?

WOW! Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star has to be one of the sexiest Austenesque novels I have ever read! With a smoldering Darcy, a playboy Richard Fitzwilliam, and a tender Charles Bingley, Slurry is one hot trio and I completely fell in love with each of them! One of my favorite aspects of this novel is that there were three important story-lines. This story is not just about Darcy and Elizabeth, I love the page time and detail Heather Rigaud gave to the Charles/Jane and Richard/Charlotte stories. Be prepared for triple the romance, triple the drama, and triple the sensuality! (Warning: there is a good amount of intimate scenes in this novel, therefore, I'd recommend it for Mature Audiences only).

Heather Rigaud debuts into the Austenesque world with a novel that is inventive, enthralling, and clever! I just loved spotting her creative modern-day parallels for Darcy's rude remark at the Meryton Assembly, Jane Bennet falling sick at Netherfield, and the proposal scene at Hunsford. However, readers should be prepared for this tale to not exactly follow the course of Pride and Prejudice - after all it is modern-day and they are rock-stars!

Looking for assembly balls, Regency etiquette, and Austenesque dialogue? This may not be the novel for you. However, if you loved the passionate and tension-infused novels by Sara Angelini, Susan Adriani, and Abigail Reynolds, then you will love Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star!

5.0 out of 5 stars The legend continues...., August 31, 2011
By
This review is from: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (Paperback)
Warning: Don't start reading this book at bedtime unless you don't mind staying up all night to finish it! You'll find it almost impossible to put down.

Fitzwilliam Darcy, the hot lead guitarist of top rock band Slurry (dubbed by readers as "the best band that never was") and hero of Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star, is a very old friend of mine. When Heather Lynn Rigaud posted an earlier version of it online, I was one of the readers who waited with baited breath for each new chapter to arrive, and this new version is even better. Full disclosure: Heather posted her stories on the same website that I did, and I gave her feedback on the original version of this book while she did the same for my books To Conquer Mr. Darcy and Mr. Darcy's Undoing, but thousands of readers from that site will tell you that it would be impossible for me to overstate how much everyone adored this story.

Slurry, composed of Darcy and his friends, Richard Fitzwilliam and Charles Bingley, are known as the bad boys of rock'n'roll, a reputation they have deliberately cultivated with wild behavior that has driven off their opening act for their big concert tour. Enter the three-woman band Long Borne Suffering (Elizabeth Bennet, her sister Jane Bennet, and friend Charlotte Lucas), brilliantly talented but unable to break through to the big time. They're desperate enough to take the unexpected opportunity to open for Slurry.

Charles Bingley almost immediately hooks up with sweet and understanding Jane Bennet, but sparks fly, both musically and otherwise, between Darcy and Elizabeth, who is a great admirer of his virtuoso talent, his fabulous guitar, the mysterious tattoo over his heart, and his tight leather pants. I won't give away any more of the plot, but lovers of Pride & Prejudice will have no doubt about how this turns out, but may be surprised by some very hot developments between Charlotte and Richard.

This is a fun, compelling, sexy book with characters you won't forget. The original version sparked a cult following online, and after reading Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star, you won't have any trouble understanding why.

3.0 out of 5 stars A HOT MODERN DARCY, August 31, 2011
This review is from: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (Paperback)
Straight to the point. This is not Austen. Forget her and only after that you can enjoy yourself.
What I appreciate is that this book is totally honest, starting from its cool cover. Just look at it ! You can't expect a Regency Ball, nor characters dancing to the rhythm pf stiff conventions or stuck to propriety and good manners. Look at that mini-skirt, those close bodies and their sexy looks. Do they remind you of anything Austen-like?
OK. Once we've cleared that up, we can start focusing on this fast paced, sexy, contemporary romance set in the transgressive world of ... Sex, Drugs, Rock'n'Roll!
Darcy is as hot as he is talented. Fast music, powerful beats and wild reputation have made him, a virtuoso guitarist, and his band, Slurry, into rock's newest bad boys. They have just been through a dark, complicated , troubled period. But they are ready to go back on stage, if only they could find a new good opening act! Darcy, Richard Fitzwilliam and Charles Bingley are desperately looking for a good band.
Elizabeth Bennet and the Long Borne Suffering - her sister Jane and her friend Charlotte Lucas - can't believe their eyes and luck when Slurry come to listen to them on one of their gigs and they are stunend when their manager Alex Lucas tell them they've been offered a contract for a long tour and hired as Slurry's opening act.
Though experienced rock stars and idols of thousands , the three Slurry men don't suspect those three girls are going to rock their world!
Elizabeth is fiercely independent and does not trust easily, she's sure she's seen the worst the music industry has to offer. Charlotte Lucas and her sister Jane have also talent to spare and they soon become a successful band themselves.
Travelling and playing together for months, as the days and nights heat-up, it becomes clear that everyone is in for a summer to remember. Can you imagine what a ride it can be? Packed with sexy and musical adventures .
Re-writing Pride and Prejudice has become a favourite sport of many, I know. How many new sexy/hot versions are there out there? But I'm sure that lovers of spicy modernizations will be fond of this new witty, uninhibited , beautifully written rock'n'roll version.
Final warning: Adult content - Explicit sex scenes

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever and captivating, September 29, 2011

I'm a P&P what if addict but I've really never been intrigued by the idea of P&P set in any other era. The idea never appealed to me.

That being said...who doesn't love bad boys and rock'n'roll? I was thrilled with this variant. The characters keep to their essential traits but are easily recognizable in today's world. Darcy shirtless with tattoos rockin the guitar? That's a glorious image in my mind. Finished the book in one day and will more than likely go back and read it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spicy, Hot Pride and Prejudice, September 22, 2011
This review is from: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (Paperback)
Although Fitzwilliam Darcy Rock Star is an obvious take on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, this book really needs to be considered a book that stands on its own. Purists would probably never get through the fast-paced, crazy lifestyle of rock stars on the road, which is just where we find our P&P characters. The pride is definitely there, as would be expected with a big rock star like Darcy is in the novel, who has taken on a young girl group starring Jane, Elizabeth, and Charlotte. The twist is not lost on this reader! On the flip side, Elizabeth is not feeling Darcy's snobbery about these young girls that he seems to think are there to "love them and leave them" to take their money and fame. Elizabeth is there because she's passionate about her music. Enough said. However, she can't help but notice that Darcy is pretty hot!

Much of the tension and social misunderstandings are still very present in this remake of the original. I did really like the character development that still retained a lot of the characters I knew and loved. Some characters are dropped from the story or hardly exist, such as the Bennet girls' other sisters and even their parents. Mr. Collins is also a very small part, whereas Richard steps up to play a major character in this modernization.

I really enjoyed this new take. Although the cover gives it this YA feel, I wouldn't say that this is in any way a young adult novel, with its strong "rock star" lifestyle represented through the drugs, alcohol, sex, and even abuse that played out. I'm not a prude, but I'll admit to raising an eyebrow at some of the sex scenes in the book, which are decidedly not the norm for Austen's originals. There is a lot of pheromones flying around in this book!

Although not the norm for Austen novels, this modernization is true to the character stories and pressures of the original. I love the misunderstandings in the original, and there were just as many if not more tense moments built into Rigaud's story. My background doesn't touch on the rock and roll world, but it was kind of fun to escape into that type of story. If you can handle the rock lifestyle, prepare yourself for a spicy, hot read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pride & Prejudice meets Rock Stars, September 20, 2011
This review is from: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (Paperback)
When the famous rock band Slurry and it's members Fitzwilliam Darcy, Richard Fitzwilliam and Charles Bingley need a new support act, they choose Long Bourne Suffering, the band of Elizabeth & Jane Bennett and Charlotte Lucas. From the get go there is a lot of chemistry between the band members and even though Darcy, the leader of Slurry, doesn't want any relationships to develop he can't stop it from happening.
Soon the two bands and their members are connected in a close, complicated and sometimes messed up way. Will they find a way to play the whole tour, get over their issues and find happy ends for all of the band members?

I'm a big fan of "Pride & Prejudice" by Jane Austen and enjoy reading retellings of it, of course not all work for me however "Fitzwilliam Darcy; Rock Star" did. I enjoyed the mix of the "old" characters in a new setting & time and think that the author did a great job with writing her own modern, rock star version of "Pride & Prejudice".

I think that you don't have to have read "Pride & Prejudice" to enjoy this book. Of course it's entertaining to compare the two books but the story is entertaining and interesting even without having some knowledge about Jane Austen's book.

At the beginning of the book I needed about 20 pages to get into the story and to build a connection with the characters but after that I enjoyed the book a lot. I had a lot of fun while reading and Rigaud's engaging writing style made following the story easy and very enjoyable. I finished this book on one day event though it's a big one because I was always in the mood to read on.

I liked that the main characters and their character traits stayed the same and I also liked that the author changed some persons and how they contributed to the story compared to "Pride & Prejudice". I liked that both Charlotte and Richard Fitzwilliam played a bigger role and that there were only a few scenes with Mrs Bennett (I dislike her sooo much in Pride & Prejudice).

I was surprised by how well the drama and the issues between the band members worked for me. I'm normally not a fan of too much drama but this time it fit to the setting in the rock star world and the stressful tour. I even liked the love story that had elements of self-destruction, but my favorite love story was of course between Elizabeth and Darcy. Their banters & discussions, their connection through their music and their misunderstandings were always fascinating and made reading about them very entertaining.

The songs texts Rigaud wrote both for Slurry and Long Bourne Suffering were fantastic and always fit perfectly to the situations they were played in. I loved how the songs were used as a way to communicate.

Even though I'm normally not that interested in rock stars and their lifes, stories about them seem to work for me. Ever since I read the first two books in the "The Sinners" series by Olivia Cunning (it's an erotic romance series), I can't get enough of romances about rock stars and maybe that's one of the reasons why I enjoyed "Fitzwilliam Darcy; Rock Star" so much.

cover
I think that the cover looks great and fits perfectly to the story.

final appraisal
"Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star" is a book that I enjoyed reading a lot. I think the author did a great job with creating a new story based on the story from "Pride & Prejusice". The mix of the friendship, the drama, the love stories, the trouble, the sexy scenes was very entertaining and brought me a lot of fun.
I would recommend this book to all fans of hot contemporary romances with characters that sometimes mess things up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Modern P & P That Rocks!, September 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (Paperback)
In this modern day Pride and Prejudice variation Darcy and Elizabeth are modern day rock stars. At the beginning of this novel Elizabeth's band LBS (Long Bourne Suffering) is invited to tour with Darcy's band Slurry. Being they are still Darcy and Elizabeth they will have the same issues as in the original Pride and Prejudice. Darcy comes off as rude and arrogant and Elizabeth's first impression of Darcy hinders any type of relationship between the two. They fight, the makeup, the fight again and then they end up together. I appreciated how the author carefully updated Austen's classic. She was respectful to the original book and to Jane Austen. The only negative thing I can say about this novel is I lost sleep two nights in a row because I just could not put the novel down. I look forward to reading any further variations from this author.

Hot, Sexy, Steamy, Rauncy, Fantastic!!!!!!! Highly recommended. I could go on forever. My only complaint is that it ended. I only hope HLR can grace us with a Pt. II. I have read dozens of these fanfics and this is by far one of the absolute best! Loved it from start to finish. All of the beloved characters are there. Darcy shirtless and clad in leather!! (faints right here) Who could not love that!! Richard was a revelation. So freakin' hott!! Bingley, also hot. Would love to see this as a movie. 5 stars!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Austen Would Be Proud, September 1, 2011
This review is from: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star (Paperback)
This modern re-interpretation of Pride and Prejudice deftly brings to life Austen's characters in a comfortably familiar manner while updating the scenario and bringing it into the current era. While Regency purists may balk at the rock star re-invention and the erotic love scenes, Heather Lynn Rigaud clearly captures the essence of the relationships, reflecting the progressive, boundary pushing nature of Jane Austen's original tale. This novel is fast-paced and steamy with a smoldering Darcy and headstrong Lizzy. You too will become a fan of "Slurry" and "Long Borne Suffering."

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Right Away, October 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Please, please, please ignore the banal cover of this book and buy it right away. I have just finished reading it for the second time in a row it was so good. I loved every moment. Darcy and his friends are rock stars, so for those of you who prefer the more chaste, less erotic retellings of this classic story you may want to prepare yourselves. There are some graphic scenes. One thing I loved about this book is that the author gives us three very strong love stories in one, each with its own trials and tribulations. The other thing I really appreciated was that the author had specific songs in mind when she wrote the story and she provides the reader with a list of these at the beginning of the book. I suggest that you source each and every one of the songs as listening to them adds an additional dimension to the telling of the story.

One of the best retellings of the classic novel I have read in a long time. I highly recommend this book.
