I bought TIGER for my eight-year-old son, and he absolutely loved it. So far, his reading tastes have included the Bionicle books, Lemony Snicket's novels, Magic Tree House adventures, and the old Boxcar Children series, but in the Five Ancestors, he's found a new favorite. This was the first book my son read from cover to cover, on his own, in the space of eight hours. He was so absorbed in reading TIGER that he barely wanted to stop for food or bathroom breaks. We're so excited to have discovered Jeff Stone!

An Action Packed Kung Fu Adventure,

Cangzhen Temple is one of the most renowned temples in China and home to five unique teens. Each is the master of a particular style of Kung Fu and their skills are put to the test when their Temple is destroyed by Ying, a former student of the temple. This is the first of a planned five book series and follows Fu, master of the tiger style of Kung Fu, as he attempts to find a way to defeat Ying and get the 5 scrolls of ancient Kung Fu wisdom that Ying now has. Fu is a ferocious fighter and has an equally volcanic temper. The action starts quickly, grabbing the read from page one, and runs throughout this book. Readers will be hard-pressed not to want to immediately pick-up Monkey the second book in the series.

Whew! Exciting!,

This review is from: Tiger (The Five Ancestors, Book 1) (Hardcover)
Tiger, Jeff Stone's children's adventure story, is the first of a series about five young warrior monks in 17th century China. The cover has a powerful illustration and raised lettering of the Chinese characters for tiger. It's a "wow" book from the cover to the too-quick ending. Author Stone paints some amazingly clear pictures of these young monks and their kung fu fighting. I felt like I was in the midst of every fight, and in every perilous predicament. Fu, also known as Tiger, is 12 years old, like his four monk brothers. They survive an attack on their secret temple by an evil 16-year-old monk. When Tiger and the other young monks realize that everyone has been massacred, they know they must hunt down and regain possession of the temple's scrolls. Why? The scrolls contained special kung fu fighting techniques only known to those monks. Each monk takes on the persona of his corresponding animal, and future books in the series will be called Crane, Monkey, Dragon and Snake. Young readers will enjoy the energetic fight scenes, the young monk's cunning, and most of all, their commitment to each other and their grandmaster. Children who are involved in the martial arts will immediately become fans and will love every moment in this page-turning book. I can't wait for the next one due in September 2005. Warning from this reviewer: It's been eons since I've read to a child, or been involved in their video games, so I don't know what level of violence is acceptable. I was a bit taken aback by the graphic violence in the book. It is geared to 8-to-12-year olds but I think it should be 10-12.

Tiger Rocks!,

This review is from: Tiger (The Five Ancestors, Book 1) (Hardcover)
From the first page, neither my daughter or I could put the novel down. Fu (Tiger) is a completely fascinating main character -- at once sympathetic and maddening. His impulsive and passionate outburts ring true, as does his development over the course of the novel. Plus, Ying is one truly scary villain. The martial arts and action sequences in Tiger rival the best in print and on film. They unfold so visually. This novel has it all. It's exciting, funny, suspenseful, moving, and action packed. We can't wait for the next installment! HURRY!

If You Like Kung Fu and Humor, Read This Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tiger (The Five Ancestors, Book 1) (Hardcover)
This is the first book of the series "The Five Ancestors."The book is about five orphan boys who live in the secret Cangzahen temple that teaches monks the martial arts of their animal style (like hawk or dear). Those boys are the youngest masters of their animal style. Those are: Tiger, Monkey, Snake, Crane and Dragon. Their names are: Fu, Malao, Seh, Hok and Long. When ex-monk Ying destroys the temple, the grandmaster tells the boys to retreat and find out about their life, right before he and all the other monks die. This book is good for people who like Kung-fu action and humor. I recommend it for kids 10 and older. Tommy

The Five Ancestors:Tiger,

This review is from: Tiger (The Five Ancestors, Book 1) (Hardcover)
The Five Ancestors is a collection of books about five orphans who live in a monastery and are learning kung fu. This certain book is from the perspective of Fu who is a 12 year old boy who doesn't know his parents because of that he has a fierce attitude. He is living with four other boys that he considers brothers; each kid has a different kung fu style. Fu who is learning tiger kung fu is a very aggressive kid and he has tiger instincts and acts just like a tiger. The monastery he lives at which is known as Cangzhen has hundreds of monks who all are learning from an old Chinese man known as Grandmaster.when Cangzhen is under attack the monks ban together to fight one of there old students, Ying.Ying was one of Fu's friends but decided to leave Cangzhen when his friend died. Ying who was an angry child didn't like Grandmaster or the style of kung fu he was learning. When he comes back to Cangzhen he attacks Grandmaster and the monks because he's driven by revenge. When Fu and his brothers are hidden they all decide to leave Cangzhen and run to safety. Fu who stays back to help his fellow monks hides in the forest. While hiding he meets monks, goes to another town, meets up with his brother, helps defend a town and experiences tons of crazy stuff. The book is very fast paced and full of adventure. The book kept me reading and was very suspenseful. The book reminds me of the movie "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" because of the action and suspense. I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely recommend it to someone who likes action and suspense. One thing that might get people lost is the fact that each book is from each kid's point of view. Other than that the book was really good and I can't wait to read the next book. I would rate this book as a 5 out of 5.

The book tiger was amazing i live that the author lets u see in every persons eyes if you have read all the books and the author lets you know right away who the good and the bad person is.When you read the book you cant stop puting it down because of all the suspence you may never know what will happen next because tiger can be so hard hearted then later you learn that hes not as hard hearted as you think the part i really loved best was reading the whole serous and tells all the vews of each of the people and learn new things that you hadnt know before. And when you read the whole serous you get to see every one of there lives that they had lived and it stil gos on about the serous and connets all of the puzzle in the whole serous the whole serous is amazing and thats what makes this book amazing to butt i think if you really love this book ou should read the rest because its as amazing as this book and if you love animals and kung fu wich i do but still iif you dont love any of thos you should still raed this book and the rest its totally worth buying for the price that it is you might think that its a lot of money for this book but ive read this book more than once because i loved the book and the whole serous so much!!!!
