About the Author

Steven Lenton hails from Cheshire where he spent many a school holiday working in the family Pom-pom Factory, packing poms and designing new products. This somewhat fluffy start to his career did no harm though as since leaving the factory he gained a BA and MA in Animation and has become a successful animator and art director within the realms of children’s television; highlights of which were being part of the BAFTA winning team on ‘The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers’ and co-directing a ‘Teletubby’ pop video. Steven also designs greeting cards and prints, selling them online and in various shops and Fairs around the country.

His main ambition was always to be a children’s book maker and he was very proud to have realized this dream with Nosy Crow and Five Christmas Penguins. His style can be described as charming, contemporary yet warm, with a gentle humor.

In his early thirties, Lenton lives with his partner Jay and his dog in Crouch End where he dunks endless amounts of hob-nobs (other biscuits are available) in big red spotty cups of tea whilst listening to Radio 2.

Format: Board book
Five Christmas Penguins is a nice-sized board book easy for little hands to pick up. The story is a simple rhyming one that helps with counting up to five and shows activities that are done at Christmastime. The illustrations are extremely colorful and bright with shiny foil on each page. Parts of each page are raised, so my 16 month old daughter enjoys rubbing her hands over the pages. It is interactive, but I don't have to worry about leaving it with her unsupervised. There are no flaps to lift or anything that she might tear up. Also, the pictures are fun. The penguins are cute!
This board book is definitely a winner. Now I just need similar books that aren't seasonal.

Loved this board book so much all the young kids in the family got a copy for Christmas. Characters are cute and presentation is fab - love then shiny bits. My almost 16 month old loves it too, picking it over others in the book box (nearly every time). Looking forward to more by this illustrator.

I bought two, one for each grandchild, and was very pleased with the book. They are visually attractive with their foil embellishment, festive for Christmas, and the story is good for the board book age "grandbabies."

Very short and simple book for baby with cute illustrations and shiny pages. Our baby likes this one and it is easy to talk about the activities that the penguins are doing on each page.

My son loved this book! It's hard to get my sixteen month old to look at new books, but with the shiny cover and fun pages this is one he paid attention to! I would have given four stars, but the cover was a little scuffed up when it arrived.
