Not sure how much financial research and knowledge was done for this book. His definition of a Reverse Mortgage is incorrect. He states that the bank acquires the home after the payments run out which is completely false. What other financial advice or definitions are incorrect within this book? How much financial knowledge and experience does this author have? This...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Financial Advice Aimed At Women, March 9, 2009
This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me for Women About Life and Wealth by Richard Paul Evans is short, sweet and filled with financial pearls of wisdom. Commonsense advice, valuable resources and motivational quotations make this little book a must read for any women ready for financial success.

Truthfully, I am always a little skeptical about men writing books aimed at women. I was happy to realize that Richard Paul Evans was inspired to write this book based on the advice he gave his niece and the lessons from his first book The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth. He uses the same five keys as the first book but adds tips, statistics and examples aimed at women and our specific financial needs. I read the original 5 Lessons and still wanted to read this one because it was specifically geared toward women. The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me for Women About Life and Wealth didn't disappoint!

This book is a quick read - 118 pages of how-tos and about 60 pages of resources. Just because it is small doesn't mean it isn't filled with valuable and useful information. Each page contains at least one nugget of wisdom to help get our financial house in order and steer us on the path of greater financial self-sufficiency.

There is something for every woman in The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me for Women About Life and Wealth, no matter how financially savvy you may be. These five keys are practical wealth building ideas that we should never grow weary of reading and applying in our lives.

My favorite key is Lesson Four: Win In the Margins. "The wealthy find additional ways to add to their growing nest egg." Included in this lesson are four valuable mind-sets:
1. Carefully consider each expenditure - includes the money saving seven golden words
2. Freedom and power are better than momentarily pleasure
3. Not equating spending with happiness
4. Protecting the nest egg.

I also appreciate the wonderful success stories of women, just like us, who set goals and gained control of their finances to grow a dream into a success business. I love a good success story! I particularly enjoyed the story of Debbie Fields of Mrs. Field's Cookies.

This little book is a reminder to all of us that commonsense and money should always go hand-in-hand. The 5 lessons A Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth for Women by Richard Paul Evans has quickly become one of my favorite financial books.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book about money I have ever read!, January 28, 2009
This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
When I saw the name Richard Paul Evans as the author of the book "5 Lessons for Women," I knew it would be good even though it was not one of his usual novels. This non-fiction book is a must for every woman. If you follow the five simple lessons in this book, you will have good life skills no matter what the economy is doing. Even I can do this! It is already changing my family's thinking about money around for the better. I read that Evans' is giving royalties from his book to charity----a great example to us all. Thank you Richard!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can Actually Do This! :), January 27, 2009

This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
The thing I loved about these 5 Lessons for Women is that I feel like, "Hey, I can actually do this!". I have been a little bit frustrated or maybe I should say, intimidated, about some financial books but this one not only related to me on a real level as a woman, but I felt like they were things that I can put into action, now. I have learned so much from these five lessons: I now have a nest egg that my husband and I add to each month, I know my net worth, I know how much money we bring in every month and how much we spend (which was surprising how much we were spending on just food alone!!), and I just have a new outlook and committment on my financial situation. I feel more empowered and that I don't have to drown in these hard economic times. I have already shared this book with my mom, sister and girlfriends- it is truly life-changing! I love that Richard tapped into the way women handle and think about money- he was right on! Thank you Richard!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What My Family Needs, January 27, 2009
By
This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
Evans' explained his Five Lessons simply and with his usual grace. The beautiful thing about this book is that his steps are easy - they can be accomplished by anyone. There are no financial advisors needed to get you on your way - no lingo he doesn't explain. I felt like I was having a live conversation with someone who had found what works as far as accumulating wealth in the real world - and they were explaining it in achievable steps. In the five lessons I've found an honorable, easy-to-stick-to plan that shows me the power of my own choices. I feel more competent about money matters and it's renewed my confidence in achieving my financial goals. As a newlywed this information could not have come at a better time for me. My entire extended family will benefit from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a money book that is easy to read!, October 3, 2009
This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)

This is an incredible book that I'd like to recommend to everyone. If you're not a woman, you can read the same 5 lessons in The 5 Lessons a Millionaire taught me about Life and Wealth.

This book is a quick read and that's a big plus since I've slogged through quite a few finance type books (and some I didn't finish). Richard outlines the steps to financial freedom in easy to understand terms with plenty of interesting examples.

He writes in such a way that I felt like I was listening to a motivational speaker (which he is) while reading. I felt so encouraged about the things that my husband and I are trying to do right with our finances and supported on those things that we can improve on.

My nitpicks: I would've liked to see more new information in this book, instead of mostly a repeat of the first book, The 5 Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me about Life and Wealth, (which I also own) but this is a minor nitpick since repetition is the greatest teacher.

My Favorites: My favorite lesson is Winning in the Margins, where Richard teaches you how to look for new ways to increase your income by thinking outside of the box and looking for opportunities instead of getting stuck in a rut. I love the stories he shares in the book of people who applied Winning in the Margins to add to their wealth.

*Richard encourages his readers to share the 5 Lessons with someone else within 48 hours of reading the book. Okay, I'm a few hours late, but I hope this review will encourage you to pick up the 5 Lessons and revolutionize your financial life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read to be Rich Now, July 10, 2009

This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
At first I discounted this version as I LOVED the The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealthbook by Mr. Richard Paul Evans. Why would women need their own spin on these classic lessons? After getting a favorable review from a trusted friend I decided to check it out. She'd lent out her copy but I was able to listen to the audio book. Wow! It really does include great additional resources and examples that I totally enjoyed. I gained great new psychological insights into why I struggle with saving and paying myself first. In fact I was able to make an important step and have saved 10% of our income this month and I'm looking forward to cutting myself a check for the second month in a row!

I recommend The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Womenas one of the top 5-10 books on financial management of ALL TIME! Especially relevant for women in our current financial meltdown. I will be purchasing soon- a planned financial investment for me and my family. Even my 13 yr old is walking around talking about his nest egg.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Women in Times Like These!, February 15, 2009
This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
I was one of those ladies who read the original five lessons, and to be honest, this book is just more geared towards the ladies, but I am ever so glad that the author took the time to think about women because to be honest, equality in pay is still a major issue to us even in this day and time. Based on five rules to make a fortune which are easy to understand and simple, I like the way the author takes his time and explain to the readers to have their own because a lot of women are usually on the short end of the stick as far as having their own. One of the main points brought up in the book is this: A Man is not a means of financial freedom; so darn true. I highly recommend this little book to the women or the women you love and care about. Matter of fact I am taking his advice and starting my nest egg. Hope to see you there!

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me For Women, March 8, 2009
This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
Just Great book and great author. I have read most of his other books and have enjoyed everything I have read. I wish I could have had this book years ago. I have bought one for my married daughter who has just found out she is going to have a baby. She works at a bank and it will be very helpful for her and her family as she is off from work to have the baby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every woman should read this!, February 14, 2009
This review is from: The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women (Hardcover)
Richard Paul Evans has an eloquent way of addressing all the aspects that affect how we manage (or mismanage) money. I appreciate that he takes into account that women have different concerns and ways of managing money. And, the fact that ALL the proceeds of the book go to charities proves that he hasn't written a book to make money for himself. This book is to help other people make money and achieve independence.

4.0 out of 5 stars I began to have hope...., October 13, 2011
The Five Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me for Women I bought the book (autographed)at a Saturday event when the author spoke to our group. I grew up in a dysfunctional home & I guess it only made sense that I would marry a total control freak. I had not a dime to my name, ever. Buying this book was the beginning of a new beginning!!
The concept that even as tightly as I was scrutinized/controlled, I COULD save money!!...even if it was only pennies, nickles, dimes & quarters of change; it adds up quickly. The habit, the desire and knowledge that I COULD DO IT was powerful. In time, of course, I got braver.
In one of my jobs I got tired of him taking my paycheck, so I opened an account in another bank. One of my sons co-signed. He was livid and raged for days.
The chapter on "Winning in the Margins" has always stood out. It was another way to "make time" to win my battle. I became a CASA & in doing so learned to advocate for myself. This book was a first step on my long & wonderful journey to "freedom" and for change and independence. Thank You. I am forever grateful!! The first of many great books that made the pathway brighter & clearer.
