My 15-month old daughter loves to hear me read this book! She studies the colorful pictures on each page, and watches my face as I say "Quack, quack, quack, quack." It's short, with just a couple of lines on each page, an it has an excellent rhythm.

This has consistently been one of my toddler's favorite books since she was only a few months old. She loves to hear me sing the words to this book and never seems to tire of it. The illustrations are bright and cheerful and it has become a favorite of mine as well. Highly recommended!

This is the well-known and loved five little ducks story, but the artwork is absolutely charming and my daughter loves to notice new details each time we read it. Definitely a book that will get read and re-read, but you won't tire of it since it is so beautifully done.

The ducks ran away and then they came back.,

We liked the book because it had ducks in it. Jamie's favorite part was when the duck went out one day. Jay liked when Mother Duck said, "Quack, Quack."

Probably good for a younger toddler. My two and a half year old is losing interest. Also, when all the baby ducks are gone (they DO come back, with their families -FYI), my son was so sad he almost cried. Cute book with simple illustrations, classic song.

I have been singing the words to this book since my 16 year old granddaughter was 3. Now I sing and read it to my other grandchildren, they all love it. I was very pleased to find it on Amazon.com

Nice for toddlers,

The illustrations in this book aren't anywhere near as good or interesting as those in Baby Belluga, but our toddler son still enhjoys it, and it is fun to sing the book to him at bedtime. It has also helped him to understand (and articulate) that sometimes even Mommies can be sad sometimes. The story has a happy ending (of course), but still provides just enough cause for concern and suspense to help toddlers learn to be patient though some sadness and worry.

ISBN 0517800578 - "Songs to Read" SOUNDS fun, but I wasn't at all sure that it would translate into a book well. It turns out that songs to read might just be one of the coolest ideas ever, for young readers!
Mother Duck takes her little ducks out and, each day, one fewer returns when she calls, until there are none. A very sad Mother Duck finally goes out one day and calls... and all five return - with spouses and their own babies in tow! The text is, of course, the lyrics of the song. Kids who know the song will enjoy the fact that, by default, they could read this book... even if they can't read. The illustrations, by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey, are vibrantly colored and, despite the lack of great detail, will catch the eyes of young readers. Board book pages are thick and sturdy and will stand up to some abuse at the hands of young kids and the glossy pages wipe clean fairly easily. This is a great book, in particular, for young children who have older siblings - it can be used to help them understand that children move out when they get older, but they're not gone forever. - AnnaLovesBooks |
